Togglers are somethimes failing after upgrade to 2019r2
I inherited a help system that makes extensive and complex use of togglers. When built in Flare 2018, they work fine in the output. When built in 2019r2, many of the togglers are broken. In this topic, only the first toggler works. The rest do nothing and the text inside the togglers is hidden. Help...

Imported TOCs disappear from menus in top nav output
We are very excited about converting our help systems to the top nav design, but have hit a big stumbling block. I single-source by importing TOCs into various master projects so I can mix and match information. Unfortunately, when I generate top-nav output, the imported TOCs are not shown in the to...

Re: Can I pull another HTML file into a Flare topic?
I appreciate all the help, but what I really want is single-sourcing: we maintain the procedure files in a common location, trainers and I can both update the information, and we can just automatically suck the files into our source files when needed. It appears to me from this discussion that this ...

Re: Can I pull another HTML file into a Flare topic?
Yes, I was afraid that limitations of snippets might make them unworkable. I would need conditional text, for sure.

Can I pull another HTML file into a Flare topic?
I want to share procedures with our training folks, so the steps of a procedure can be maintained in one place and used in both the training documents and in my help. The other text in the training topic would need to differ from the text in my help topic. What I'd like to do is have a collection of...

Re: Keyboard shortcut for closing a project?
Thanks, all. I think Msquared has a brilliant idea! I never thought about adding that option to my Quick Access Toolbar, but it's the perfect solution. I also slip more often than not and close the file instead of the project. I thought I was just clumsy, but I guess I'm not the only one who finds t...

Keyboard shortcut for closing a project?
Hi, experts, One thing that really bugs me about the new(ish) Flare UI: You need to choose File > Close > Close Project to close one project before opening another. Is there a keyboard shortcut that does the same thing? I know that--theoretically--you don't need to close a project before opening ano...

Auto-hide doesn't hide in Flare 8
I like Flare 8--especially after the patches--but one change of behavior is really bugging me. I work on a laptop, so screen space is important. I auto-hide the Content Explorer and Project Organizer so they only take up space when I need to use them. In previous versions of Flare, when I created a ...

Re: An easy way to make accessible dropdown text?
Crumbs. It's a great idea, but it doesn't meet our accessibility guidelines, which state: "...create or repurpose controls so that screen readers present the role, name, current state (including changes in state) and available options." In other worlds, the alt text needs to specify whethe...

Re: An easy way to make accessible dropdown text?
The proposal is to entirely remove MadCap's script and replace it with another. This requires hand-editing a bunch of code and I would prefer to find a solution that can work with MadCap's code but still be accessible to a screenreader.

An easy way to make accessible dropdown text?
Our company is making a big push to have accessible products and documentation. One of the problems I'm dealing with is dropdown text. The solution proposed by our group is--ugh--replacing the MadCap code with some Javascript. I'll do that if I absolutely must, but I'm hoping someone on this forum h...

Use external resources for stylesheets, masterpages, etc.?
I have a number of different projects that use the same stylesheets, masterpage, skins, conditional text tags, etc. These files are frequently updated and it's a pain to copy them into all the projects each time. Can I use the new external resources feature to update all these files only in one plac...

windows won't auto-hide in Flare 6
I just upgraded to Flare 6. In earlier versions, I was able to click the push-pin icon on a window to make it auto-hide. Now, this doesn't work and the Auto-hide option is grayed-out in the right-click menu.
What can I do to make auto-hide work again?

Re: Mysterious multiplying Styles windows
Thanks, but... I have already saved my layout and if I reapply it, the multiple tabs remain. For whatever reason, I can't turn off auto-hide on the only working Styles window. But your suggestion sort of works: if I close the bottom Styles window (the only one I can use), close Flare, and then re-op...

Mysterious multiplying Styles windows
Has anyone solved this minor but annoying issue? I have customized Flare to keep the Styles window auto-hidden in a tab on the right of my authoring area. When I mouseover the Styles tab, the window pops open so I can choose a style. When I first auto-hide the Styles window, I have one Styles tab. T...

Re: Complete TOC won't display in WebHelp from imported projects
In case anyone else has this issue...
When Flare imports a TOC file, for some reason, it makes the imported file the master TOC. So to correctly generate your merged TOC, you have to go into the Project Organizer and reset the TOC in your master project as the master TOC.

Complete TOC won't display in WebHelp from imported projects
I'm hoping someone else can help me with this mysterious problem!! I'm trying to generate a WebHelp system created by importing three separate Flare projects into a fourth master project. To do so I: 1. Created Flare import files for the three projects and imported them. I included TOC (*.fltoc) fil...

Using CSH alias to call master project TOC in merged project
I have set up a master project that calls several subsystems. One of the subsystems contains the context-sensitive help; other subsystems are procedural, etc. To call the context-sensitive help, I use a help-mapping file created by my developers. It relies on a CSH alias to bring up the CSH topic. U...

Re: Flare 5 breaks my custom CSH calls
Thanks for the help, Dave!! I will check with my developers. But I would like to point out that the calls we implemented in our mapping system (on Madcap's advice) have been working fine since Flare version 2. We haven't changed anything, so I'm assuming that the change happened on Madcap's end when...
