Re: Mail setup: "Could not find outgoing Mail server"

Hi netmatt. I think I remember Madcap telling me that you MUST send it as an attachment, that the mail server field is a red herring. I just put "Outlook" there. Like I said above, 1) we didn't buy Contributor, and 2) my memory of this whole episode is unclear, and anyway I have selective ...

Re: workflow with Markdown?

Not a peep on the post to date. I sounded my barbaric yawp, but it has found no echo in the community. (I'm constantly amazed at how often I seem to be the only user treading my particular path through the Madcap Funhouse.) I learned some basic Markdown and we are leaving that document outside of Fl...

Understanding heading level diffs in print/online

I just today realized that I don't know how it is that Flare gives the h1 of a topic a smaller-than-h1 font-size in print outputs when that topic is used as a subsection of another section. It makes sense that in the online help, each title appears as an h1 when you open that topic, but I don't know...

Re: Mail setup: "Could not find outgoing Mail server"

Try just typing "Outlook" in there without specifying the name of the server. I can't remember if this works. (Maybe it was a dream. My Contributor trial ended without a purchase.)

Re: Span tags in menu proxies

Doc Guy, thanks. That jibes with what I saw earlier when I added the class using the old Webhelp skin. After I blew it away (realizing I could not use that skin) the class persisted in my other skin's drop-down menu. Nice shortcut.

Re: Push failure - Flare is changing an email address in Git

Hi Oz, I played one of my Get Out of Jail Free cards and called Madcap about this, but they couldn't spring me. Somewhere, at some point, Flare had overwritten an email address in Git that's supposed to match my email address. One of my devs determined that "it is the GitLab pre-receive hook on...

Re: Span tags in menu proxies

Thanks again both of you. I think I'm almost there, but there are gaps in my CSS experience that are obscuring my path here. I have added the below code from Arkana to my skin, right above the Side Navigation Menu style: <Styles> <Style Name="TocEntry"> <Classes> <StyleClass Name="Add...

Re: Span tags in menu proxies

@jjw, what is your added .pdf style a subclass of? Can you supply more detail about that? I get the principle behind this, just not sure where to do each of these things. @arkana, what version of Flare are you using? And what target type and skin type? I'm using the latest (Flare 2019) and there is ...

Re: Span tags in menu proxies

I tried this in a new Side Nav and a new Tripane and it did not work in either. I'm attempting to add a custom icon in front of just one topic. I'm sure I did something incorrectly but don't know what it is. In the Side Nav experiment, I created a new skin, opened it in Notepad++ as suggested in the...

letters munged, sentences half hidden

My devs are giving Contributor a try but they're reporting bad rendering. The bottom half of one of the lines above the Review Packages list is half occluded. Another line has words and letters munged together slightly. These are not catastrophes but they are extremely annoying to a group of people ...

Re: How Do I set-up the email client in Contributor

The search function in Flare's help is abysmal. If you're still alive, I think what you want to do is, when the Mail Setup dialog comes up just type Outlook in the field where it says "(Cannot find outgoing Mail Server)". This is actually in Flare, not in Contributor, but I was getting an ...

Re: Is anyone using Flare and Contributor without Central?

@agracer, I'm curious about your workflow for review packages. You say you're saving them to a shared directory and then... what next?...emailing the SME that they need to go and open it? I'm trying to send the review packages direct-to-SME via email, and I've got that working but it's not clear to ...

Re: Flare can't send Contributor pkgs by email

I just did a search and found my own issue from four years ago ha. Apparently my memory is about as robust as Madcap's desire to get this problem fixed. I had forgotten that I wrote the original post here. I have a case open with Support, but that is not the same as a Madcap bug number. I've sent th...

Really, no one has responded to this in seven months? My company wants to look into buying a few floating Contributor licenses, and encountering this issue right away is discouraging, because I tried Contributor years ago and ran into this previously. @oceanclub, the first thing you might do is chec...

@niglon, Thanks for this info and for submitting a ticket. Can you tell me what the number of the Madcap ticket is that you submitted? Re: Linking to TOC subheads jumps browser to top of page ins

There's a similar and perhaps related issue where you click in the side nav on a level 2 TOC item and go to that heading in a topic, but then if you click again on that same TOC item, it jumps to the top. I heard from a user (who heard from a user, etc.) that Madcap told them they weren't planning o...

Re: Multiple Tech Authors and Flare

Hi Nita, It sounds like you're saying that as long as you don't modify a file in the same commit as you move it or change its name, then the latter won't be a problem. True? I was told by smart people near my cubicle that the only way this wouldn't break everything was if I had my project bound inte...

workflow with Markdown?

I have developers that want to update a .md (Markdown) file as their source doc. It's a config file that mostly THEY do the writing in, and it's mostly code samples. I just tidy it up. Flare will import the .md file through the Kaizen Plug-in, but it won't output a .md file back for them. To give th...

Re: Multiple Tech Authors and Flare

Hi CM, We tried to use Flare on SVN without "binding" it to SVN inside Flare, and we found that while doing our checkins and updates with TortoiseSVN works fine in most cases, if we moved a file or changed a file name we sank our dinghy real quick. It caused enormous problems. But you say ...

Re: Subversion question

Hi Nita,
I hadn't even considered that we might be using an incompatible version of Tortoise SVN. We're on Flare 2018 r2 now. Do you know how I find out which version of Tortoise SVN we should be using?
Thanks,
