Content files do not open in XML editor
I only use Flare sporadically, to update the help and users guide for a client. When I came back to their project after several weeks away from it, my content files open in the internal text editor, not the XML editor. This happens whether I double-click the files in the content explorer, or right-c...

Flare 7 and TFS 2013?
Yes, I realize I'm way behind the upgrade train, but I need to know if Flare 7 can be made to work with TFS 2013. Or am I out of luck?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Using VSS over a VPN?
I may need to bind a Flare project to VSS over a VPN for a client project. Any caveats that I should be aware of?

Re: Newly-installed font not appearing in Font Family Picker
Turns out that you can type the font name in the Font Family field in the Font Family Picker window.
As far as OTF fonts not appearing in the PDF, ...
Curse it, you're right. Doesn't show up if I output to Word either. What's up with that?

Re: Newly-installed font not appearing in Font Family Picker
A bit more searching in the forums shows that, yes, Flare seems to have trouble with OTF fonts.
So, has anyone had success by manually adding the font to the CSS?

Newly-installed font not appearing in Font Family Picker
I needed to install a new font for a client project; however, when I try to update the styles in the stylesheet, it's not showing up in the Font Family Picker window. Tried restarting Flare, and restarting Windows. Does Flare not like OTF (Open Type Font)? Environment: Flare 6.1, Windows 7 Ultimate ...

V6 and Pending Checkins slowness
Has anyone else noticed that it takes the Pending Check-Ins list a long time to display the files now in V6? It's sloooooooooow. On the other hand, if in the Content Explorer I right-click on my Content folder, then click Source Control > Check In, the list of files that I need to check in appears q...

Re: Whisky Tango Foxtrot? What happened to Link to options?
You can right select text in the XML editor and right click on it and then you can use "Quick Link" or "Quick Cross Reference" to still access the Open, Bookmarks (current document), and Same Folder options that were available on the old link inserter. This is kind of backwards ...

Re: Whisky Tango Foxtrot? What happened to Link to options?
OK, I'll grant you that the new functionality, with the tree view of the folders in the project is cool. Credit where it's due. But they've still taken away useful features. Although it does give you something like the File in current folder option, the Content Explorer is not the same thing. The la...

Whisky Tango Foxtrot? What happened to Link to options?
In Flare 5, when you were inserting a cross-reference, you could choose from the following Link to options in the Insert Cross-Reference dialog: Place in this document Open document File in current folder Recent file Topic in project In Flare 6, the only Link to options are Topic in Project , and Pl...

The Mysterious Case of the Missing Condition Colors (V6)
Madcap broke my condition tag set. I installed V6 and started working on my main project, when I noticed that topics that I knew had a condition tag applied were not showing the color in the Content Explorer. Some of the tagged topics show the right colors, but some of the condition colors do not sh...

Re: Best way to single-source for version-specific user guide?
I use conditions to tag content for the n.x releases, and create a new project for major N.0 releases. For example, I copied the 3.x project for our 4.0 release and scrubbed out everything but the most current content, and all of the old version conditions. When we started adding features and bug fi...

Re: Flare's logic in case of multiple conditions on same content
Joost, I discovered the same thing: Overlapping conditions doesn't do what you want it to. I ended up creating things like: Condition1_PrintOnly Condition1_ScreenOnly Condition2_PrintOnly Condition2_ScreenOnly But that gets ugly as you add more conditions, and I'm trying to avoid it as much as possi...

Re: Best approach for Webhelp and PDF from a single source
To me, the biggest issue isn't one of how your CSS is set up, but how your source content is structured. You mentioned having to break things up into the right sized chunks for online display. In my experience, the first thing to do, before doing anything in Flare, is to analyze your content, clarif...

Re: MS Help3
As it stands right now, Microsoft's recommended help platform for Windows 7 even is CHM, the successor of WinHelp. That should already put it into perspective and show how much Microsoft really cares about help, tech writers, and customer support. Hell, all you need to do is try to use the help for...

Re: Page Layout: First page only works with mc-heading-level 1?
IIRC, you should be able to get this to work if you designate the chapters in the project TOC. In other words, right click on the topic in the project TOC and use the Properties panel to set the topic as being a new chapter. I don't think it will automatically recognize that h2 is a chapter break o...

Page Layout: First page only works with mc-heading-level 1?
My content has a Part/Chapter hierarchy, like this: Part 1: System Setup Chapter 1: Stuff Chapter 2: More Stuff Part 2: Basic Procedures Chapter 3: Even More Stuff Chapter 4: [etc.] Thus, I use my H1 heading for parts, and H2 for chapters. The problem I'm having is that when I include a First page i...

Re: Adjusting the shading of conditional text?
I suggest submitting a feature request at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx asking for the ability to raise/lower the transparency level of conditional tags in the XML Editor (which would leave the Content Explorer squares showing the pure color). That's the sort of adjustment I'm look...

Adjusting the shading of conditional text?
Is there any way to adjust the shading of the conditional tag indicators (in the XML editor)? I can make them show up a bit better if I tweak the brightness and contrast settings on my monitor, but they're still pretty faint.

Re: Canvassing for one-click interface
I've noticed on days when I am working purely in Flare, by the end of the day, my right hand starts to tire very easily. My clicking fingers feel numb. I was wondering if you sometimes feel the same, that much more could be done to reduce the number of clicks to get to many things in Flare. I'd set...

Yeah. I think that the ability to have it ignore certain types of things, or at least have the summary not display them would be good.
Feature request time, I guess.

Re: How to Analyzer on "Critical"
Not to sound flippant, but just because Analyzer is pointing things out doesn't mean you have to pay attention to them. <grin> With things like outside links, after I've verified that they're correct, as long as the number doesn't change, I don't pay them any mind. Same thing with things like the &q...

I'm starting to learn about creating versions and managing branches with source-control, and I'd like to apply some of these concepts within Flare. But so far, I can't quite suss out how to do the following: Tagging my project and content files as a specific version Creating a branch for maintenance...
