Re: Flare Won't Launch

So after re-setting Windows and re-installing Flare, it appeared for a day or two as if the problem was resolved but... nope, it's back again. The UI is not off the side of the screen, it hasn't launched properly. I've tried a number of troubleshooting methods but this does look like it's a Flare pr...

Re: Flare Won't Launch

An interesting idea. Gave it a shot but unfortunately it didn't work. I don't think the Flare application itself is launching properly because it's not listed under the Apps section in the Task Manager but is under the Background Processes section. This makes me think that the application partially ...

Re: Flare Won't Launch

Sooo... double-clicking on a project doesn't change the behaviour.

And I can't seem to "repair" the Flare installation as in the Apps list, the "Modify" button is greyed-out.

Still scratching my head on this one.

Re: Flare Won't Launch

Typically, I'm just clicking on the shortcut icon on my desktop without trying to open a specific project. That or I've tried going through the Start menu and looking under the Madcap applications folder. But I'll try double-clicking on a project and seeing if the file association makes any differen...

Flare Won't Launch

I'm having a strange little issue and was wondering if anyone else had encountered anything similar. It's only started happening recently but is both strange and frustrating. I've been using Flare 2020 r2 for some time now but lately, whenever I launch the application it does this... 1. Splash pages...

Re: Slack community dedicated to local Flare user groups

The biggest differentiator for me is that the Slack page is a user group in an online format. A digital version of the various UG's scattered around the globe. I know that the OFUG hasn't met in person in some time so Slack is a good way for Flare users to communicate with fellow Flare users. The fo...

Favicon Skin Editor is Blank

I've never tried the new Favicon Skin component but... I think my template might be flawed or broken. After creating the new HTML5 Component - Favicons skin, it opens in the editor and... nothing... I mean, absolutely nothing... FaviconBug1.png I open it in the text editor and... I don't know, it lo...

Re: Console.ScreenRecorder.exe has stopped working

Looks like this is an issue with .NET Framework. I've installed all the latest Windows updates and... still no luck. :-(

Console.ScreenRecorder.exe has stopped working

That's the error message I receive whenever I try to record a movie using Mimic 8 on my 64-bit Win10 laptop. It's a complete showstopper as the only option is to close the program and I can't record anything. Has anyone encountered anything similiar or do you know of any causes I might be able to re...

Re: Is Anyone Else Having Issues With DOCTYPE Declarations?

Thought I'd follow up on this with our solution as an FYI in case this affects anyone else. It turns out that (for us), the issue was with Apache. If you're using Apache on the web server that hosts your Flare-generated HTML5 targets, you'll want to make sure that the mod_mime module is loaded by th...

Re: Is Anyone Else Having Issues With DOCTYPE Declarations?

Thank you, Dave. And it turns out that there's hosting configuration that can be done to resolve the issue. In our case, an Apache setting will solve the problem.

I kind of thought that removing the declaration wasn't the best move so I'm glad that it won't be required after all.

Cheers!

Is Anyone Else Having Issues With DOCTYPE Declarations?

I'm producing HTML5 tri-pane targets and have discovered that the <!DOCTYPE html> declaration automatically added to the beginning of each HTML file is causing issues with some elements of the style sheet being ignored. Is anyone else having this problem? My current workaround is to manually remove ...

Re: Any feedback from MadWorld?

Just thought that I'd chime in with my own thoughts about MadWorld 2014 ("Hi, Nita!" /me waving furiously). Nita's spot on with her observation that while the presentations are the "main course" of the conference, the opportunities to network and learn from one another between th...

Yup, that was me. :D

Now if we get enough user groups going, what do you think our chances are we could talk Mike Hamilton into springing for a few propeller beanies???

Another Potential Browser Compatability Issue

I'm using the beta release of IE9 (I know, I know, the beta of anything will have issues but bear with me). Not sure why but it looks like it doesn't like the stylesheet for my Webhelp output... Re: Segment Overflow database error

I realize this is more than a year-and-a-half since you posted this but I thought I'd reply with a "workaround" of sorts that we use to fix this problem. We include example SSL certificates in our documentation (with invalid content, of course) and originally, the text strings were so long...

Lesson Learned: Wrapping Long Character Strings In PDFs

One last thing... In my project the folder is called TOCs not Tocs. Maybe you renamed it and that resulted in it not being recognized??? Where Did My TOCs Go???

I'm using Flare 6.1 (having been a Flare user since 3.x).

I suddenly discovered that the Project Organizer is not displaying my TOCs folder. My files are all there when I navigate through Windows Explorer to look for them but Flare doesn't seem to see them.

Here's a screen capture...

Re: Confused About Publishing

The trick, though, for batch publishing, is that those two options aren't present. I'm not sure what is "supposed" to happen when you do the batch build and publish. You'd hope, that since there isn't an option that Flare would remove orphaned files and upload all the rest, just to be saf...

That is exactly what is supposed to happen. Did you try it out and the result was different? We were having some issues with topics that we deleted somehow ended up still being in our "published" output. I'm not sure if this was something we were doing wrong but just to be safe, I was man...

Confused About Publishing

I'm liking the new batch targets in V6 but I must admit to some confusion over the publishing feature. Let me run through a scenario to see if someone can help clarify this for me... I have a very simple help system with only three topics: Topic A, Topic B, and Topic C. Yesterday at noon, I built th...
