Re: Open PDF toolbar button
I have a PDF button on my toolbar that has an OnClick value of "window.open('../Content/Resources/Scripts/PDFVersion.html','mywindow')." That PDFVersion.html file then has an automatic re-direction to go to the PDF file. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN&quo...

Re: How to align paragraph numbers with bottom and not with top
This is just a wild guess, and I haven't tried this to see what it does. But the page at http://www.w3schools.com/Css/pr_pos_vertical-align.asp lists a property value of text-top for vertical-align . . .

Re: Marking as new in FrameMaker
I use passthrough markers for lots of other things, so that was the first thing I tried for this. The passthrough code appeared in the actual heading, but did nothing to the TOC imported into Flare. I had thought about adding the passthrough markers in the FrameMaker TOC, but they would disappear wh...

Thanks, Greg. I think I may be able to get that to work pretty easily.

Marking as new in FrameMaker
I'd like to be able to have my writers mark headings as new in FrameMaker. I would then import the Frame files into Flare 5 and have those topics appear as new in my WebHelp output TOC.
I can't figure out any way that this would be possible, but I thought I'd see whether anyone else has an idea.

Re: Import table class is always "Default"
I know this is an old question, but I thought I'd chime in just in case Mark is still looking for an answer. If I remember correctly, there's no way to change that behavior in Flare 3.1. All tables import as "Default" tables. When I was using v3.1, I had a workaround for this shortcoming. ...

Previous/Next Topic buttons
I'm testing the new Previous/Next Topic buttons in Flare 5. I thought perhaps I could add those to Webhelp to enable users to page through the help, but it doesn't work that way for me. Here's what I'm seeing: 1. I click a topic in the TOC to move to that topic. 2. I click the Previous Topic or Next...

Re: Hve you imported a large Frame project into Flare?
We have a few that have over 300 images and nearly 3,000 FrameMaker pages. I use FrameScript to clean up a lot of things before I even try to import into Flare.

Re: open links in Webhelp in a new window
Thanks, Greg. I already use PassThrough markers in XML format, mainly to tag glossary items in FrameMaker and have them import correctly into Flare. In the little bit of testing that I've done, it looks like those terms still import correctly when I import PassThrough markers as Fragment. I'll do so...

open links in Webhelp in a new window
I know I've asked about this in the forum before, but I can't find the posts. And the forum search doesn't help because it tells me that my search terms are "too common." I use Flare to convert FrameMaker to HTML. In my Webhelp projects, I have some links to other Web sites. By default, th...

Flare 4 - Table stylesheets in Project templates
I use project templates to convert my FrameMaker book files to Flare. One thing the project templates contain is the stylesheet information for my WebHelp output. Because Flare 4 now retains the table format names from Frame to Flare, I tried adding table stylesheets to my project template by placin...

Re: import from Framemaker: generation of TOC fails
Do you see any broken links in your output? I get similar messages whenever I import Frame docs into Flare. Seems to me that Madcap support told me that I could ignore those messages as long as my links worked okay in my output, which they seem to do. I think that problem will be taken care of in Fl...

Re: frame import: PDF file is taking a long time to create
Do you have graphics with callouts in your Frame docs? Flare tries to convert those to PDFs. And it seldom seems to work, no matter what setting you use for that callouts option.

Re: Flare as Frame Conversion Tool vs. Flare as Authoring Tool
We have around 25 authors producing over 10,000 pages in FrameMaker. Converting all those pages to Flare isn't an option for us right now, so I had to figure out how to use Flare as a Frame conversion tool. It took me several months to work out a process that requires nearly no work in Flare itself....

Re: remove all occurrences of a format
Thanks, Lisa. I'll take a look at that, but we unfortunately have no more software money right now. Is there something I could do until we can afford Analyzer?

remove all occurrences of a format
I just found out that the writers in my group are applying background colors to text to indicate different iterations of documentation to reviewers. Seems that they've been applying local formatting on the appropriate paragraphs. When they're done, they go through a project, file by file, to remove ...

I created a FrameScript script to set up my TOC for me (as well as do a BUNCH of other things), so I don't have to do all this by hand every time. I run the script on a local copy of my files. Following are the functions the script performs regarding the TOC. * I'm converting guides to HTML using Fl...

Because we're using Flare as only a conversion tool and not an authoring tool, I don't want us to have to manipulate things in Flare any more than we have to. The TOC that Flare automatically created for my projects never displayed the headings correctly, making me adjust the TOC entries in Flare. W...

conditions from FrameMaker to Flare
I set up my conditions to show/hide in FrameMaker to get the output that I want.
When I import my FrameMaker doc into Flare, those condition settings are not retained, forcing me to set up my conditions again.
Is it working the same way for others? If so, I'm going to add this as a feature request.

For several years I've been providing our writers with various tips on how to use FrameMaker in our environment. To test the Flare template that I'd created, I took those tips, which are in FrameMaker, and ran them through Flare. The result is at the following site: http://members.cox.net/rick_henke...
