Re: Problems with Flare 10's Perforce integration

Thanks for this. I was stopped at the point where all I wanted to do was bind the project which already existed in Perforce, but since it already existed in Perforce, I couldn't because I needed to create a new stream and I couldn't rename the project through the Flare interface. Flare actually went...

Thanks very much Nita, I actually sit beside the guy running the group, Pat Calnan! I will be in Europe for the next meeting, unfortunately. He will be happy to know you pointed me to him! Linda

Re: How does the search rank work in Flare?

Thank you so much Nita! That was most helpful and informative and especially the bit about NOT using Topic Titles. I appreciated your dissertation. :)

Re: How does the search rank work in Flare?

Hi Nita, in Flare 9, the text Always use first topic heading was visible when you looked at the properties, until you typed in something to be used as the topic title. This lead me to believe it was a project-wide default. Now, the text is only fleetingly visible. I just tested this, creating a new ...

Re: Flare search engine limitations

is enabling partial word search worth the additional (significant, it's more than double) time for generating. I realize, that's up to me, but aside from my searching in outputs that have this enabled and outputs that don't, are there any general usability recommendations? Has anyone had feedback fr...

Re: How does the search rank work in Flare?

There is the option to allow the heading 1 in a topic to become the topic title by default. Is the impact on search the same as if I had specified a topic title? The first topic heading does not appear in the Text Editor, like the topic title would. Curiously, with the upgrade to Flare 10, I only se...

Re: Question about Auto-merge feature-html5 output

Same question about xrefs and further, what about the alias files? I want to merge two projects at runtime. Will the alias files in each project still work for CSH? I am sad that I don't see any response to this question. Is that because the answer is easy?

Re: Mapping Flare styles to Word OUTPUT styles

Hi George, Just a clarification: now, when generating Word output, I go to target> Advanced > MS word output and select Embed images in output. Are you saying that in Flare 9 this no longer works? I have resisted upgrading to 9.0 as I am in the middle of a bunch of stuff and need time to suss out wh...

Re: Mapping Flare styles to Word OUTPUT styles

Wowee! Ask, or rather google and ye shall receive. Thanks so much for all this, and the feature request. I create word documents from Flare for Sales Engineers to present webinars and they can then provide their edits easily.

Re: Flare output access on Confluence wiki?

Yes, I use Flare 8 as well and love it. However, I love the idea of a one stop location for all documentation, and being able to connect more contributors to the source documentation, such as the Sales Engineers, Technical support, product management and some marketing. I'd love to hear more of your...

Re: Flare Output to Confluence or MindTouch

Scott, Did you end up going to MindTouch? What has happened since you posted? I use Flare and love it, but have projects that are primarily written by the SMEs and just need editing and organizing by me, a template and style sheet customizations and a wiki is far better for this situation. I have Co...

Re: Flare output access on Confluence wiki?

So whatever happened? It is 3 years and some later. We have Confluence (recently acquired for engineering communication purposes) and MadCap Flare. I love Flare as a tech writing tool, we produce online help and some pdfs. I completely appreciate the power and features of Flare. The reason I would l...

Re: non-breaking variables

No they haven't solved this, but we have a solution. It may have come from Flare, as we were very concerned about this. Put the following style into your style sheet and apply it where you don't want a break:

p.nohyphen
{
mc-hyphenate: never;
}

Work around, really, but there you go.

Re: keepwithnext

That's exactly what I did Lisa, and it didn't work. I went into the text editor to make it happen. It might have been a clue that it wasn't easy to do that it might not be the right thing. I just had the idea that images should be in image tags and that I was asking for trouble putting an image in a...

Re: keepwithnext

No matter what you call it, avoid for page-break does not work if one of the items is img.style, or perhaps that holds for anything not a p.style.

Re: keepwithnext

I have tested it out, and that is correct. I should have realized that if it took me effort to define the image as image only, then it might be the wrong thing to do. This just reflects my total lack of experience with code.
Thanks. Now to fix all my images.urf!

two projects, identical style sheets. In one project the keep with next (p.style page-break-after: avoid) works beeeyooteefully. Same style sheet, different project, I can't even insert page breaks. the only difference in the projects is that originally the following item was also a p.style, and I c...

Re: "CSS Parser" Error Messages

Before I noticed your reply, I found the coding issue that was causing the 4 parser errors. I had a look at the report for the build in edit plus and it identified the exact problem. I compared the code of the topic from the new project to the old project and saw my problem: a missing semi-colon. I ...

Did you ever get a response? I have been having the same error, except with no details, i.e. Line: 0. Char:0. Missing indentifier (property) 4 lines of this, Subsystem lists CSS Parser. At the same time I am unable to keep titles with images, which was a new thing in the new project. Not sure if the...

Re: keepwithnext

I just looked back at my previous project, regenerated some stuff with the same formatting, it's working beautifully. The page-break-after is hauling my heading forward to the next page with the following item. A div tag should not be required, or a span class. You are right, sometimes it works, som...

I want to keep a step result with a screenshot in a pdf. Seems easy enough. I didn't think I needed to create a new span class for this, but I will if I have to but I shouldn't think I need to. I have a style:p.stepResultScreenshot and for this style I have defined PrintSupport page-break-after: avo...

server identification?

Other than mining our log files, is there any way of identifying the exact server Ids of the servers making the CSH calls?

Thanks. Linda
