Re: Flare output access on Confluence wiki?
Hi, Becky, I feel your pain. My developers are putting more and more information on our wiki, but I haven't had the time to dig in to research how to pull in their information. I'm using MadCap Contributor to help with some of that. It has saved me a lot of time with reviews. With a very brief lull ...

CHM build stats in XP vs. Win 7
I'm splitting my time between two PCs at work right now (moving from a desktop on XP to a laptop on Win 7). I noticed when I generate CHMs on the Win 7 PC, the Build Progress window doesn't show the number of topics used in the build. The Flare 8 copy on my old XP computer shows this information. I ...

Re: Table in FrameMaker output does not fit to page
Try resetting the table formatting. Right-click the table block and select Table Style > Reset Table Style. Then reapply the table style.
Let me know how that works.

Re: Flare output access on Confluence wiki?
Flare 8, of course! (I can't imagine work without it.)
I've just gotten Contributor for my developers, but only a few have started to use it. I'm easing them into it. We use Confluence for internal information, so it would be nice to leverage it.

Re: Flare output access on Confluence wiki?
Linda, I ended up returning to my other job shortly after that post--startups... So it hasn't been a critical issue for me to pursue. I agree with you about finding a way to use Confluence as a source. I haven't had much time to look into it. We should both make product enhancement requests--the mor...

Re: TOC--Unaccounted for entry
Try a paragraph style for the figure number ( p.Figure instead of h6.Figure --or whatever your style name is and with all the same settings) to see if that works. Using a paragraph style should prevent it from being pulled into the TOC. Also, in the PDF target PDF Options tab, do you have Include no...

Re: TOC--Unaccounted for entry
I think there might be something about using a heading style the way you described. If I understand correctly, you are using it as something other than a subheading, right? In your CSS file, make sure the h6.class (your custom style) is set so that it doesn't show up in the TOC (in the Print media s...

Re: TOC--Unaccounted for entry
Is this instance of the heading at a different level in the TOC? I'm wondering if the subheading is being picked up because it is seen as at a higher level in the TOC hierarchy than the other h6 headings. It's hard to know without seeing more of the TOC.

Re: TOC compute children is false
In your PDF target settings Advanced tab, do you have Use TOC depth for heading levels checked?
Also, at what level are these topics within the TOC?
There are several things you can check in your CSS heading PDF settings, too. Let's start with the first questions.

Re: Table in FrameMaker output does not fit to page
Try setting the table in Flare to Fit to Contents. I think the 100% on Fit to Window is the culprit, based on my experience with tables.

Re: Span tags everywhere after import from Word
If it's a long Word doc, you should reimport as Jason suggested. I don't get those spans when I use that option, and I don't think there is a way to clean up an entire project all at once. If you have to review every topic anyway, you can select all and then use the Unformat button--it would be each...

If you don't want to reimport, you can select the text and click the Unformat button in the Home > Font ribbon to remove all those spans.

Re: Rename filename based on heading level or topic title
You can rename files within Flare's Content Explorer and the File List. You will be prompted to update all links (TOC, any hyperlinks, etc.) that reference that topic--a must so you don't end up with a ton of broken links. It's not automatic. You'll have to do the typing. You can copy/paste the topi...

Disabling the Comments section
My company isn't ready to start using the comments section for users. While I can disable the feature, I can't find a way to generate the help files without the comments section at the bottom of each topic. I have disabled both display options in the Feedback tab in the skin, but the Comments banner...

I've seen this a few times in Flare--it's very annoying behavior. Open a bug report. In fact, don't be shy about opening one for any bugging behavior. https://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx?p=Contributor&v=4.x I'm getting ready to roll out Contributor to my development team. I'll be ale...

Re: [How to] Title in PDF bookmarks, not in TOC
Unfortunately, you cannot select which Flare bookmarks are visible in the PDF, nor can you select where the bookmark shows up in the PDF list. If you set Flare to include the topic bookmarks in the PDF (I don't because they aren't what I want the user to see), then they are all listed alphabetically...

Re: How simple is the workflow? Possible to share a license?
I'm wondering the same thing. I would love to get several of our SMEs to use this, but I don't see my leadership approving $249 for the software for anyone right now. Even though the improvements are huge, we can still do the same thing (more time, but free) that we've always done with reviews. Not ...

Re: "Chapter #" System Variable in TOC
Lisa, I tried this and got it to work, but I have to do something different with my Contents for PDFs. I have to make my Flare template match as closely as possible as a peer team who uses FrameMaker. We've worked out many style issues and compromises and now I have to implement as much as possible ...
