Many Flare projects, one GIT Repo

Hi, I'm trying to bind multiple Flare projects to GIT but I can't figure out how it should work. I can create a GIT repo at the level up from my Flare projects easily enough but then I can't bind the individual Flare projects at the level down because it just crashes Flare every single time with a L...

Re: Flare v10 - Crashes

Mine's crashing about 50% of the time when I try and build various projects. I get a nice red X on the screen. I've sent all the error reports to MadCap. I've reverted to Flare 9.0 for now, I'm not feeling the love for version 10.

Re: Flare 10 released

Hmm, cute. All my note style images are tiny in Flare 10 PDF output. And my title page one. What's all that about then? There is an option in File > Options > General tab now called "Automatically resize low DPI Images" if you uncheck this, the images should return to they way they ...

Re: Flare 10 released

Okay so apparently Flare 10 doesn't handle JPGs...That's, erm, different? Yes, I have a bug report in.

I changed it from a JPG to a GIF and hey presto, my image was fine. Did I miss the memo about JPGs?

Hello Helen, Thank you for contacting MadCap Technical Support. Re: Spacing Bug?

Hey,

We're experiencing this as well on two machines, both running Flare 9 and Windows 8 64-bit. Have you been able to glean any insight into this 'undocumented feature'?

Thanks! :flare:

Re: What will be in Flare 9?

Avast hates Flare 9.0, just like it hated Flare 8.0. I've submitted it as a false positive but history tells me that Avast are unlikely to do anything about it. I ended up adding the Flare app directory to the exclusions list so I could run Flare.

Re: Flare help...why is it no better than anyone else's?

I think the Flare help is really very good. I have a lot of respect for the tech writer - we are an exceedingly critical audience! 90% of the time I can find the answer I'm looking for with helpful examples are the harder concepts. The rubbish search is not his fault, it infuriates me with my own he...

Oooh it's not just me!! I thought 'what the hell?' and wondered who put rum in my tea (sadly no one). Any sort of screen refresh seemed to rectify the problem but yes - really outstandingly random.

Re: Flare 8 Niggles

Just a heads up that Avast 7 does not play nicely with Flare 8. It scrutinized it a sandbox before announcing that it was fine but I should use with caution (how helpful). You can add it as an exception though. I think Avast and I are going to have a falling out - it's decided that Webex is also a v...

I came across this today as well. My orphan control appears to be trampling all over my group together DIV. I'm going to rase a feature request / bug support. It's only in rare instances but yes, not helpful!

Re: TOC requirement for PDF

One of my best practices for PDF output is, after generating the PDF, to search within it for "page 1." It's rare that I cross-reference to a topic that appears on the first page (say the first page of Chapter 1) in a print doc, so usually if I get any hits for "page 1," that's ...

Re: Crossreferences to reused topic

If I understand correctly, this sounds like a job for snippets. You could create a snippet with the content that you want to duplicate, then create two topics (they can be called the same thing as long as they are in different folders) such as Topic Elephant and Topic Rhino and insert the snippet in...

Ah now I can reproduce it (if there is a span already). Weird - then again I've never seen it as you just place the cursor anywhere on the line to apply it to the full line.

Re: Editor: Pressing ctrl-G takes 20-30% CPU and 2-4 seconds to

In my version of Flare (7.1), CTRL + Home goes to the start of the document - what am I missing? Cool link: http://www.clickstart.net/FlareShortcuts.pdf It could of course be my keyboard that's different - I know my function keys don't behave nicely at the best of times! Re: spell check: Is the word "cancelled" misspelled in Flare?

Acceptable use maybe, strictly correct, no. Wclass was correct when they said your issue was related to region, nothing more. The Oxford dictionary clearly indicates that the US spelling is with one 'l' and the UK spelling is with two 'l's. There are a ton of these subtle spelling differences betwee...

Re: spell check: Is the word "cancelled" misspelled in Flare?

No, it's not a bug.

If you set your local to US English (as you've said you did above) then the spelling of 'cancelled' is incorrect. In US English the correct spelling is 'canceled'. This is what Flare is telling you.

Re: spell check: Is the word "cancelled" misspelled in Flare?

As Andrew has said - it's almost certainly your region settings. If your region is UK-English then 'Canceled' will be flagged as incorrect while 'Cancelled' will be correct. If your region is US-English 'Canceled' will be correct whilst 'Cancelled' will be flagged as incorrect. Go to your Project Pr...
