Cannot sync locally added folders with Git
I am using the latest version of Flare on a Windows 10 system. We use Git for source control. The source control connection seems messed up somehow, because when I add a folder locally, and then try to synchronize it with the Git repo, Git does not recognize it as an addition. I also tried adding a ...

Subversion questions
My team will be moving to a new authoring tool, possibly Flare, and definitely will be migrating to a version control system. I have a question on branching/tagging and another about external vs internal binding. 1. I am trying to understand the difference between branching and tagging. I am current...

Re: What is the best practice for versioning using SVN or Gi
Thanks for your response, though that doesn't really answer my question. I already mentioned that I have tested Tortoise and wasn't asking about how this was managed in Flare. I am interested specifically in how well branching works for versioning in source control. Also, whether there any gotchas t...

What is the best practice for versioning using SVN or Git?
My team is in the process of doing a deep dive on requirements as part of a new tool investigation. We are currently using Author-it, and will need to replicate the functions of the Ait database as closely as possible. This means using some type of version control system, likely either SVN or Git, t...

Searching across an SVN repo
All, Is there a way to easily search across a repository without requiring use of the command line? I know you can search within projects, but what about searching between projects that are not contained in the same master project?

Subversion question
Hi, My group is testing Flare 11 for possible migration to it from a different authoring tool. One must have requirement is source control, and I am testing Subversion. I have been able to get files in and out of an SVN repo, but it is slow on our network. I have this working externally from Flare w...

Oddly enough, after I closed the program and reopened it, it was fine. I was able to build my book and publish it.

Error, Exception: Index was outside the bounds of the array.
I am running Flare 9 and I just used the new Ait converter utility and imported an XML project in from Ait. The import went fine and when I tried to save changes to the PDF target before publishing, I got this error: Failed to run command 'Save'. Exception: Index was outside the bounds of the array....

Re: locking down a stylesheet, is it possible?
We will have multiple stylesheets due to legacy projects, but we will need them all to be read-only. And yes, we will be using a version control system/CMS of some kind. I am just trying to help scope out requirements and capabilities at this point. Thanks.

locking down a stylesheet, is it possible?
Hello, Is there a way to lock down a stylesheet so it cannot be overwritten except by someone with R/W privileges? We are looking at long term solutions to potentially replace an existing authoring tool, and one of our requirements is the ability to control templates. My experience with Flare in the...

Word document is not importing properly
I have a Word 2007 document that was exported from our CMS. I am trying to import it into Flare 9 to publish from different test outputs. However, I probably messed up the mapping on import, because none of my tables, graphics, or body text came through. Only my headings came through. I did a search...

Re: Can AuthorIt and Flare co-exist?
Hi Nita, thanks for the quick response. we do have platinum maintenance, so I will call this in. I suspect we will end up using AuthorIt as I have no say on what tools are used.

Can AuthorIt and Flare co-exist?
Hello, My group was in the process of migrating from Frame to Flare when our company was acquired. The new company uses AuthorIt. At first, this was not a concern because our groups were still working on existing product lines, but now it appears we'll be working on projects collaboratively. So the ...

Re: Importing HTML file, can it be mapped?
Hi Nita, What version of Word are you using? Because when I open my HTML file in word, it tells me: The file contains custom XML elements which are no longer supported by Word. If you save this file, these custom XML elements will be removed permanently. Since I don't have LaTeX, I have no idea what...

Importing HTML file, can it be mapped?
Hello, I have a large HTML file that was created as a LaTeX output. It has all the topics lumped together into one .htm file. I want to break it out into separate topics. Is there any way to do this through the import process, or must it be done manually? I thought there was as I thought I did it th...

Re: Figure and Table Captions used as Cross-references
Updated to say thanks to Nita for steering me in the right direction. I realized that to work with Flare's somewhat limited X-ref framework, I have to create descriptive bookmarks for my figure and table captions. I then select either FIgure or Table in the X-ref dialog box, select the correct bookm...

Re: Figure and Table Captions used as Cross-references
Hi, I read through those links but it didn't really help. I do not need lists of tables or figures. I was talking about the way things work in Frame and wishing that Flare had this ability. list of figures in xref inside Frame.jpg This was all I meant. Flare cannot do this, obviously. I am going to ...

Re: Figure and Table Captions used as Cross-references
Let me boil this down as it seems I wasn't clear: 1. Do you have to bookmark figure and table captions to use them as cross refs? I think the answer is yes. 2. How do you format these xrefs so that in case the caption numbering changes, so will the text of the xref? For example, I create a bookmark ...

Solved: Figure and Table Captions used as Cross-references
Hi, I am building a template for my team and attempting to get cross-references working. In a nutshell, we are a Frame shop converting slowly to Flare and we are used to the way Frame does cross-references. The fact that you can select any style and make a cross ref out of it in Frame is not somethi...
