Re: Best way to lock content from translation
Thanks for the reply. I'm familiar with locking/unlocking files via source control, but this is not the feature I was referring to - sorry, I wasn't clear. I'm referring to the icon under the Flare Review ribbon named "Lock". This icon opens the following menu options: Mark Element(s) to b...

Re: Best way to lock content from translation
Thanks again! We usually use project zip instead of project export, but I'm starting to really see the benefits of using export instead. I'm going to try your solution of excluding conditional-ized content from the export. This may also help with the word count statistic; I could run the statistics ...

Best way to lock content from translation
Does anyone have a best practice recommendations for locking down content in a project being sent for translation to prevent it from being translated? Would the lock feature be used for this - which would be labor-intensive to open the files and lock the content - or is there a way to lock entire fi...

Is there a way to exclude files from word count statistics?
We're working on word count statistics for translation purposes. Is there a way to outright exclude files from being included in the Word Count statistics? For example, could files be with a particular condition tag or files in a certain folder be excluded? In a related question, what exactly is inc...

Re: Glossary items sorting issue on Chinese characters
I'm using Flare 2018 R2, and also have a problem sorting the Glossary by asian characaters. Can it be done? If so, how? We need MadCap to weigh in on this one!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Best practices for source control and branching in TFS
I was considering using branching to save off released versions of content for a Flare project. For example, when Version 1 of Product 1 documentation is released, I would make a branch of this version in case I ever need to retrieve Version 1 sources. I also considered using labels (created in Visu...

Re: Pros and cons of using template project or global projec
Thanks for such a prompt reply! That's what I thought. The global project sounds good because of the sync capability, but it gets a little complex when using TFS for source control - which is what we are using. In this case, you would need to put the global project and child project(s) in TFS, right...

Pros and cons of using template project or global project
I've read the Flare Guides related to project templates and global project linking. If I'm understanding correctly, there appears to be some overlap in functionality between templates and global projects. I want to build a single project with common topics, images, stylesheets, etc, that can be used...

Re: Keep different medium styles in same stylesheet or separ
Let me know how that works out. I found that if I used a single style sheet and just imported the other 2 (my HTML and PDF stylesheets), I was not able to see both sets of styles in the stylesheet editor. If I opened the .HTML stylsheet in the editor, I could see the .HTML styles. If I opened the .P...

Re: Is local TFS workspace needed with server TFS workspace?
Thanks so much for the reply! I was thinking the same thing but wanted corraboration. The TFS environment the Flare users in my group are working with was set up by someone in our Software Department, and I think they just set it up as they normally do for the software development team; namely - as ...

Is local TFS workspace needed with server TFS workspace?
:?: Our Flare projects are stored on a server in Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2013. So, for instance, my PROJECT 1 is stored in TFS server folder location Flare/Projects/Project 1. My question is, is it necessary, or recommended to also create a local TFS workspace on my computer for these F...

Re: Keep text together
Sounded very promising, but is working the same way: it doesn't respect the nowrap if the period is right after the [%Variableset.Variablename%] text. It does work if I put a space before the period, but of course, I can't do that. The other complication is that "TM" is included in my prod...

Re: Keep text together
Of course you may ask - I'm grateful for your help! The reason I'm using a snippet instead of a variable is because I need a portion of the text in the snippet to be bold. My understanding is that you can't apply formatting to variables.

Re: Keep text together
Almost there: here's a new tidbit - this solution works great as long as there is not a period "." right after the snippet. If there is, then the snippet still wraps.

Keep different medium styles in same stylesheet or separate?
I'm looking for best practice, pros and cons, advice regarding print and html styles. Keep text together
In my Flare project, whenever a product name is used in a topic - regardless of whether the topic is output to an online or pdf format - the product name has to be kept together on the same line. I have many product names defined as snippets: for example product a v2 . I haven't been able to find th...

Re: Wrong character display in asian CHM with Flare 9
I'm having the same problem with Flare V9.1.2. My Japanese compile is garbled. I'm right in the middle of an important translation cycle, and I still have Chinese to compile :( Unchecking the DOCTYPE delaration seems to correct the problem (without adding any meta tag to the master page) - but I'm w...

I'm using dropdown text in my Flare V7 HTML Help and have come across the following issues: 1. The "Find in this Topic" feature does not find text that exists in dropdown unless the text is expanded. 2. Using the Search tab to find a keyword does not find it if it exists in dropdown unless...

Re: Audio on mouse trajectory
Years later - a reply to this post from 2009! I'm a new Mimic user. I've managed to manually add a mouse trajectory, but can only get the selected audio sound to occur at the start of the trajectory. I've selected the trajectory object in the frame, gone to the Audio tab, enabled Audio, then selecte...
