Re: Mastering the Art of Complex Auto-Numbering for Print Target
It is a dizzying array of automated settings to correctly apply and keep track of. Perhaps I am missing the point here, but we use a multilevel numbering scheme similar to the one you describe, and I think that you may be able to accomplish what you want with much less trouble than you are going th...

You did not miss anything. This procedure works great, but it is "post-processing." You have to do it after Flare does its magic. Every time you generate the target.

Good question! Work with relative font sizes if you aren't already. I use ems. Here's an interesting article on Responsive Design: http://alistapart.com/article/fluidgrids

Re: Need to check that user is signed in to application
Does anyone have additional experience related to this issue? Although our secure web-based application requires a login, WebHelp can be accessed by entering the url of a Help page. Among other concerns, this raises an export-control issue. Help should be easy to access within the application, but a...

Re: Question about v8 Target Editor
The "Definition" window for variables appears to be a fixed length in Flare 8.0, with definitions scrolling out of view to the left as you enter content that exceeds the visible limit (approx. 32 char.).

Please file a feature or bug request to get MadCap to accommodate OpenType fonts. According to MadCap Tech Support, "Flare currently does not support OpenType fonts."

Re: Content re-use? buttons etc
Using Mimic 6.0: The palette offers one means of reuse. Another technique that I've used to foster consistency is the "Make All Look the Same" command: Right-click the object, and select Make All Look the Same. I think that will handle your font-change issue.

Re: How do I set "Press Enter"as on action?
I'm ...trying to ... set an action (I tried button mode, input text mode etc.) such that if I press the Enter key, it takes me to the next frame.... As far as I can tell (with the exception of entering data through the Input Box Mode), Mimic is designed to facilitate on-screen interactions only. Ad...

Re: Resetting TOC Label Property
A feature request (#43258) has been submitted to address this issue. The goal is to make it possible to reset a TOC label to its default "initial heading" setting (i.e., to create some kind of dynamic linking between this label field and the initial heading). At present, populating the lab...

Re: Drop Down Blocks Not Functioning Properly
This is a guess because I am not having this issue when I stack dropdowns. Although you've worked on the CSS, if you haven't checked the settings for MadCap|dropDownHotspot (Pseudo Classes) hover (visible in the Advanced settings of the CSS) check there.

Re: Conditions inside or outside Snippets?
Although I only have a few that meet this criterion, I favor applying a condition inside the snippet only for the given condition. For example, I have a snippet that I used to provide some instructions for image maps. This is marked with a screen-only condition in the snippet. The figure is marked w...

Resetting TOC Label Property
The TOC uses a topic's initial heading as the default topic label for the TOC. This TOC label can be customized as needed, but once you have done this, can you change TOC label properties back to their original default "whatever the topic says" setting? I have not been able to make this ha...

Medium changes when file is reopened in Editor
Flare 7: I set the layout to Web and the medium to Default. Save. Close the file. Reopen the file. The layout is Web, but the medium is Print. I have both PDF and WebHelp targets in the project. I have moved some--not all--of the files from a project done in Flare 6 to a new project that is being wo...

Re: Using Conditions

Re: Using Conditions
I believe I need six conditions to control content for the PDF, normal WebHelp, and Mobile WebHelp targets: (1) unconditional content that shows in all targets, (2) content (text and graphical) that shows in print targets only, (3) text that shows in "normal" WebHelp, (4) text that shows i...

Using Conditions
I'm exploring WebHelp Mobile for the first time and will have three targets: WebHelp "for the big screen," PDF, and WebHelp mobile. As I looked at the first output (using default settings), it occurs to me that the ScreenOnly condition I use for the WebHelp target may need to be divided in...

Re: Multiple TOCs Vs Conditional Tags
My experience echoes gmel999's: Multiple TOCs provide the flexibility to handle the content differently based on the demands of linear (e.g., PDF/print) and nonlinear (WebHelp) deliverables. Multiple TOCs do require more maintenance; however, I have found that I've restructured WebHelp content signi...

Re: Multiple docs best procedure?
I am guessing here... haven't yet tried this out. We will be importing and converting legacy FrameMaker docs as the products evolve. If you have a good import file, maybe it makes sense to turn that import file into a template, and use the template to create a new Flare project for each new FrameMak...
