Re: Ugly PDF Image Quality Drop in Flare 4.2 vs. Flare 4

Yup - I submitted an enhancement not too long after I posted this. Just didn't include that info.

Thanks,

Re: Ugly PDF Image Quality Drop in Flare 4.2 vs. Flare 4

We recently upgraded to 4.2 and our PDF file sizes has increased substantially - so much so that I thought I had grabbed the wrong files/images from our source code tool. However, I double-checked what I was doing and it's not a user error in this instance. Also, we haven't changed any of the projec...

Re: Align Open and Close icon vertically with drop down text

I had the same issue. I realized we had created a generic image style (img) to control spacing above/below screenshots. The generic tag was also controlling the image used for the drop-down icon. Easy enough fix to add a class to the img style.

Re: Paragraph auto numbering - where does this table come from

Sort of answering my own question. I figured out that the table comes into play when you use auto-numbering and set the position to Outside-Head. For some reason, that setting doesn't translate well to Safari (and I'd guess Chrome since it's built on Webkit too - but I haven't checked). I haven't fo...

Paragraph auto numbering - where does this table come from

Having some problems with auto numbering not looking so great in Safari. Was given a workaround that didn't work on other browsers, so I've been noodling this some on my own and with a couple other people who've offered to help out. When auto numbering is used, for something like a numbered step, Fl...

Missing table of contents in Mac Preview

When I open a PDF in Mac Preview, thumbnails are displayed but there are not table of contents entries (and yes, it's fine when viewing with Adobe Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Reader). I've poked around a bit but thought I'd post here too, in case someone else has noticed this and/or figured out a solution.

Just wondering if you were able to solve this? I've been wrestling with the same problem but haven't found a solution yet.

Re: Mysterious _Gen_

We've had that happen a time or two when someone added a blank line (by mistake) that used a style (such as H1) which is included in the TOC. Deleting the blank lines removed the _Gen_ lines.

If you haven't checked, might want to see if there are some extra lines in the topics.

PDF file size - any tips on shrinking

Hi, Generating direct to PDF. My only concern is the file size is much larger than it used to be when generating direct to PDF from FrameMaker (before we switched to Flare). I've searched the forums, poked through the help, and fiddled around with some post-processing steps on my own but can't seem ...

Re: Error: Exception - System out of memory? on PDF compile

Jumping in a little late but I fixed this problem last week by doing two things.

1. Downloading and installing the latest .NET Framework updates (from Microsoft's website)
2. Cleaning the project

After installing updates/cleaning the project, I've had no problems with PDF generation.

Re: WebHelp - opening help file with TOC, Index, or Search pane

Thanks Lisa - that's an easy enough workaround. I will also submit a feature request.

WebHelp - opening help file with TOC, Index, or Search pane

Our software programs including three links to online help - one to contents, one to index, and one to search. The old program we were using to develop online help made it easy to call the help file with the appropriate tab/pane opened. Is there any way to do this in Flare? I do not want to set the ...

Re: Safari formatting - what am I missing?

Well, taking the time to really look into how I set things up shed a whole lot of light on what was going on. I had inadvertently added an inline style, which I now removed. Thanks for the help.

Re: Safari formatting - what am I missing?

I am testing on a Mac - version 3.1.1 By all over the board, I mean the indenting keeps increasing as either the numbered or bulleted lists 'grow'. For example, the indent between 1 and the text is as expected, a bit larger between 2 and text, a bit larger between 3 and text,... I have set the left ...

Safari formatting - what am I missing?

Hi, Testing WebHelp in Safari. Auto numbering (for numbered steps and bullets) looks fine in IE6 & 7 and Firefox, but is all over the board on Safari. I've spent some time searching the forums, and other outside resources, but have come up empty. Any advice/thoughts on things to check or change....
