Re: GPL, External resources and source control. Who does what?
I'm not even going to try GPL. I've eliminated a lot of the redundancy in my doc set (resulting in less use of external resources than I'd originally planned), and whereas it would be nice to have a "shared resource" function to share graphics, copyright notices, CSS etc., it's not worth a lot of ...

Re: GPL, External resources and source control. Who does what?
The limitation is real. I went to another engineer, had him open a project from TFS, and he did not see the external resource mappings I had set up.
There may be nuances, but that "experiment" corresponds directly to the way I'd want to use this feature. I want to be able to tell that other engineer ...

Re: GPL, External resources and source control. Who does what?
WOW. Thanks for the report, Marjorie. The limitation to one PC means that I will, indeed, be eliminating this construct from my projects.
(And I've just checked with a fellow writer and demonstrated that you're correct about that. He cannot see "my" mappings.)

Re: GPL, External resources and source control. Who does what?
I'm not sure about the "same PC" caveat. I mean, the actual file mappings are stored in the .flprj file, so I don't know what the registry entries are used for. Maybe it's nothing important... I hope...

Re: GPL, External resources and source control. Who does what?
Well, ironically, the External Resources info is NOT needed to build, because all the synchronization happens manually on your dev machine. :( So the build only cares about the "project copies" of the files, which look like regular project files. I hadn't noticed the mention of registry storage and ...

Re: GPL, External resources and source control. Who does what?
Thanks for the answer! That's not a bad workaround - I hate to force that mapping step on our build scripts, but it is probably feasible. I need to consider whether the shared files are worth the dance, honestly - there's not such a big difference between these manual sync processes (external ...

Re: GPL, External resources and source control. Who does what?
I'm reactivating this thread because I've been using external resources for quite awhile now and have just discovered a new "Gotcha" which, I think, means I won't be using them anymore. This looks like a great set of people to kick it around with. :)

Any way to merge CHM files WITHOUT merging Search?
I think there's a way to do this in the HTML Help Workshop, but I haven't found a way to do it in Flare, and I don't want to post-process.
I want my "slave" CHM files to be available from the "master" TOC, but I do NOT want to merge the Search. With a merged search, there are too many hits on a lot ...

Re: tags in snippets in master pages, control at file level
YIKES...
This approach worked for me, BUT I had to do the EDITING of the stylesheet in Flare 9, NOT in Flare 10. When I did the editing in Flare 10, then tried to build the CHM file, I got the infamous "Object Reference Not Set to Instance of an Object."

THANK YOU! Yes, that's what I need. I actually tried that approach too, but couldn't figure out how to do it and concluded it couldn't be done.
This is a great user forum.
Thanks again.

Re: tags in snippets in master pages, control at file level
Are there any updates on this issue?

Re: Flare output access on Confluence wiki?
In my investigations, I've seen mention of a macro that allows the embedding of HTML code into a Confluence page. I haven't tried using it, because that's not really what I want -- I want a one-way trip into real, editable Confluence markup. But you might investigate this macro -- it could be what ...

I also have a similar, but different, problem to solve. :D (Well, maybe. I am toying with the idea, haven't pitched it to management yet.)

Re: Flare and TFS workspaces
Thanks Amber! I will keep that .flprj hack in mind in case I ever (really, truly) need it.
I'm coming to the realization that Flare binding to TFS is still more trouble than it's worth, for me. I *could* delete all my workspaces except one, but then what happens when I need to add others? I could ...

Re: Flare and TFS workspaces
Thanks, I appreciate that you're trying! But if I do it the way you suggest, TFS will not know what has moved where - the server will still have old checked-out copies of the files in their old locations, and I'd have to add them as "new" files in their new locations, which would break their history ...

Re: Flare and TFS workspaces
No, the project is NOT bound to source control. All the project files and content files are checked in; I work with the project by checking out files in TFS, editing them in Flare, and checking them back in with TFS. Flare does not know that the project is in source control: it is not bound.

Re: TFS changesets and checkin comments
Because of this issue, I've stopped using Flare to check files in and out. That makes the source control binding well-nigh useless, so I haven't bound any of my projects except for the initial one where I found this issue.
I don't believe I ever submitted this to MadCap as a defect, so I'll go do ...

I am documenting a website, and when the user clicks the Help button for a page on the site, we bring up the relevant page of the Flare WebHelp with no navigation pane. TFS changesets and checkin comments
I've had my Flare source checked into TFS for years, but have just recently started using Flare's source control binding. (Before, I checked files in and out, moved or added them in TFS/Visual Studio, then worked on them with Flare.)

Re: Importing Help project from HelpStudio
I'd love to see MC impliment a xml comment extraction function in Flare. It's probably not a huge market, but every tech writer tasked with writing an SDK will be more compelled to go the MC route if they can seemlessly import xml comments.
