Re: Page swap, or maybe auto-save?
Someone with a high level of technical expertise and qualifications suggested it. Furthermore, there is no greater a number of error messages without the paging file than with it. It didn't correct the problem, anyway. The next step is to run the project on a virtual machine so that it can't access ...

Re: Page swap, or maybe auto-save?
Yesterday we set the paging file to 0Mb, but Flare is still taking 40 minutes to compile, and throwing page faults (1,494,494 when I just looked), even though it isn't doing anything at all. For Flare to be paging even when there's no paging file to use is a remarkable feat.

Re: Pending check-in message when exiting Flare
I deal with this by using the Microsoft Task Manager "End Task" button, and forcing Flare to close.
Luckily I'll be leaving this job soon, and will then never have to deal with Flare again.

Re: Flare stops responding when source control unavailable
When I try to close the project, I get the message "You have pending changes in the project that have not been committed to source control.". Flare won't let me check it back in via Flare, and checking it in via SourceSafe still doesn't remove the message or the highlighted changes. What's...

Re: Flare stops responding when source control unavailable
When my project is bound to source control, I can move the files around in the Content Explorer in Flare. How do you pull off that trick? I've been asking for six months whether there is any way of organising topics in Content Explorer, and everyone assures me that there isn't, and that the only wa...

Re: Creating index entries
What's more, upon opening Index Explorer, I find a list of index entries that I never created. Some are topic names, and others are individual words or phrases. Upon opening the topic, I find that there are indeed index markers. I suppose I've now got to go through them all, individually deleting th...

Re: Creating index entries
I tried Index Entry Mode. I entered a term in one topic, and then opened another topic to add a different index term. As soon as I clicked inside the new topic, Flare inserted the index term that I had created in the first topic. It also showed the Condition applied to the topic (in this case, "...

Re: Topic doesn't appear as in the preview
Thank you, Kevin, but it didn't help. I'll set the problem aside until the person who created the original ForeHelp and then Flare files returns from an overseas mission, and then ask him if he can explain it. He is a software expert and may have built in some clever trick that we now need to undo. ...

Re: Topic doesn't appear as in the preview
The only clue that I can see, which may be irrelevant, is that the old project was originally created (not by me) in ForeHelp, and I wonder whether some of the residual ForeHelp instructions are somehow overriding the Flare ones. Perhaps it's the ForeHelp "Ignore" commands? If I open the t...

Re: Topic doesn't appear as in the preview
That didn't work, either. Here are the two different versions.
First of all, the Preview (which is correct, and is what I want):
Here's the Output, which shows the old styles and ignores the Master Page:

Re: Topic doesn't appear as in the preview
Thank you. There aren't any extra references to style sheets in the source code, or in the html tag. I did notice that I hadn't changed the Master Page medium to Non-print, so I've done that and will try another build... but not until Monday morning, because a build takes more than 40 minutes (twice...

Re: Topic doesn't appear as in the preview
Thank you, but the DotNet Help target is pointing at the correct master page. There's only one master page in the project, but the offending topics simply take no notice of it. I changed the style sheet medium from "Default" to "Non-print", but that had no effect. The topics also...

Re: Moved Topics Disappeared from Content Explorer
Flare insists on sorting everything in Content Explorer alphabetically. I want to control the order in which folders appear... You could always rename the folders so they start with numbers, like "01_Intro", "02_GettingStarted", etc. Is there a recommended, or even a possible, w...

Topic doesn't appear as in the preview
I have a large number of topics that were copied from another project, which had a different style sheet. When I look at a topic under the preview feature, it appears correctly with the settings of the style sheet in the new project, but when I actually create the DotNet Help target, the topics appe...

Re: slow, slow, slow
I now suspect that it's the infamous "Computing Global Index" that might be causing the problem. Is there anyway of turning it off? It takes no notice of the "Skip" button.

Re: slow, slow, slow
It doesn't happen, but then the sample project is tiny in size by comparison. I'm starting to wonder whether the Convert to XML Wizard isn't opening repeatedly every time I select it, instead of shutting down after it converts the topic.

Re: slow, slow, slow
Flare has now gone into complete memory runaway. I've tried all the solutions suggested so far, but Flare is just sitting there taking more and more memory. All I'm trying to do is open the TOC from the Project Organiser! This isn't just a problem, it's an emergency. I never had this happen with Rob...

Re: Batch conversion of non-XML files in existing Flare project?
Thank you for the help, but we haven't got MadCap Analyzer, and I'm not going to get it in the next two days, so I'm going to have to open, check, and convert everything manually.

Batch conversion of non-XML files in existing Flare project?
I am trying to import topics from an existing Flare project, which wasn't created by myself, and the creator isn't available for consultation. First of all, I need to add the topics that appear in the TOC, but not in the Content Explorer, to the Content Explorer. When I open the missing topics, I re...

Re: Importing Multiple Topics
Yes, a lot of the topics in the old project have blank "Link" fields, but none of them have red exclamation marks. In "View Output", the TOC appears in the left-hand pane, with all the topics listed, and the topics all open when selected. Flare is finding them somehow. I can't im...

Re: Importing Multiple Topics
The old project that I inherited shows all the topics in the TOC, but they don't appear in the Content Explorer. The creator of the project isn't available for me to ask him how he put it together. How do I copy over the topics, so that I can (a) finally get some help authoring done, and (b) stop bu...
