Re: Instability with long topics - is there a maximum length?

You're right Ramon--my huge topic is almost all tables. I imagine this adds to the complexity immensely and would destabilize any topic. Thanks for the idea of pulling them in as snippets--I'll give it a try. (I did try splitting that topic up several years ago, but our Support people told me that o...

Instability with long topics - is there a maximum length?

We have a reference topic that has grown over the years. It has now reached 34 pages long in the Print Preview and is now definitely acting weird within Flare. I am trying to float the topic, but instead it vanishes and I must close/reopen my project to get it back. What's the longest topic that you...

Re: Flare 10 SVN performance

Correction to my previous post: it turns out that my performance woes are indeed tied to SVN. As a test, I loaded an old archived project that was no longer version controlled and the performance perked right up! The scrolling was zippy and no screen refresh issues. I then went back to my current SV...

Re: Flare 10 SVN performance

I am running SVN with Flare 10.1 and I haven't noticed much slowdown with SVN itself, but then I haven't done any mass check out/in yet (my 27 topic check-in just now went fine). But my biggest gripe is the overall slowness of Flare 10! Everything is running a bit slower and creakier: just scrolling...

Re: Capture button is off the screen--how do I access it?

I've encountered very few programs that have problems with 125% magnification (however all bets are off when it's greater than that). Those that do have issues are just mainly visual glitches like you mentioned--icons a bit blurry; occasionally text getting truncated within a dialog. But I've never ...

Re: Capture button is off the screen--how do I access it?

I got an answer from MadCap Support and you won't believe the reason: The "capture" button can be pushed off-screen if you have your Windows display set to greater than 100%! So, everyone running at 100% will not encounter this problem. Those of us who find 100% to be too hard to read (I h...

Gotchas using 'Mark of the Web'?

I would like to hear from anyone who have discovered 'gotchas' while using the "Mark of the Web" feature. I used it once many releases ago and (to my dismay) discovered that screenshots were missing. I have disabled this feature ever since. But our customers have been complaining about the...

Re: Relatively difficult learning curve for Capture?

You know, those are my sentiments exactly. I'm a veteran of tech and love software tools...but I could never warm up to Capture, even though we've had it for over 5 years (back when MadCap was charging extra for it). I agree that it just seems awkward and rather unintuitive. I tried to get back into...

Capture button is off the screen--how do I access it?

I've decided to resume trying Capture after having abandoned it the last several years. I encountered one thing immediately that is most baffling: when capturing a region, there is a floating toolbar that contains the "Capture" button plus some fields where you can enter thew dimensions of...

Re: .NET Framework security policy not allowing right-click

I think I found the problem: Internet Explorer 11 seems to be the cause. If anyone else get these symptoms, uninstalling IE11 should do the trick. In the past, new browser versions were always optional downloads. But Microsoft seems to be following the Chrome and Firefox model of pushing updates aut...

.NET Framework security policy not allowing right-click

This is not a Flare-specific problem but I wonder how many other people have encountered this. My Flare projects have suddenly started displaying this message when I try to right-click a topic : Application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this applicati...

Re: Combine multiple Flare topics into a single topic

This is too bad--I was looking for a similar feature. Only my request is even more ambitious: author a slew of topics separately, but have them merged into one SUPER TOPIC when compiled as a WebHelp. We have this reference topic that describes the variables in our system. Our support and training st...

Re: Working with same stylesheet across multiple projects

Thanks for the tips, Dave. I'll try them out.

And I realize I was looking for the stylesheets in the wrong place (Project Organizer instead of Content Explorer). Sometimes you don't see things right under your nose.

Thx.

Working with same stylesheet across multiple projects

Can anyone tell me if there is a good way (or the "proper" way) to work with the same stylesheet across different Flare projects? In our company, we have four Flare projects, each with their own .css stylesheet file. Some time ago, we decided to make all our projects look similar, so we co...

Re: Analyzer....so....slow.....

I pretty much stopped using Analyzer since my last post above over two years ago. We continue to upgrade to the latest versions, but I haven't fired it up in a long long time. Part of the reason is that, even if Analyzer didn't have the horrendous performance issues, applying it to a (large) legacy ...

I just checked with a developer in my company and he says it's probably because the CRL or OCSP server is down, so it's nothing to worry about.

"Revocation information" warning on Flare startup

Lately, I've been getting this warning when I start Flare:

"Revocation information for the security certificate for this site is not available. Do you want to proceed?"

Everything seems to proceed normally when I click "Yes". Just wondering if anyone else is getting this.

Re: Editing the style for hyperlinks

Great idea, Craig--it worked! It located "a:link" as being italic and that is what's causing the results I'm seeing. But the strange thing is, when I look at "a:link" in the stylesheet in Flare, it does not show as italic--Flare maintains that the style is "Regular", in...

Re: Flare help...why is it no better than anyone else's?

I think Flare's help is okay, though it's far from state of the art. It tends to be a bit too long and rambling, and the silly MadCap logo watermark that they add to every page makes it that much harder to read. Also, I believe the Flare help was written by a contractor who's not even located in the...

Re: How to change Flare's auto-save behaviour?

You've convinced me to abandon auto-save--this goes against my instincts, as I always enable auto-save in my products (we are working in Windows after all). But this backward auto-save behaviour in Flare is completely unacceptable. I've filed a bug report--let's see if they do anything about it.

Editing the style for hyperlinks

I am trying to change how my hyperlinked text appears in a PDF, but I can't seem to find the correct style in the stylesheet. For cross references, I know that it's under "MadCap | xref". I thought that hyperlinks would be "a", but it doesn't appear to be the case. Currently, my ...

How to change Flare's auto-save behaviour?

Here is something quite basic that's really annoying about Flare... 1. I make some edits to a topic. 2. A few minutes later, I decide the edits are not appropriate. 3. I decide to close the topic without saving. 4. But lo and behold--Flare closes the topic immediately without prompting me to save! 5...
