External resources - same project, multiple users
We have external resources set up for four help projects. The projects get checked in to source control. I'm the one who initially set up the mappings for the projects, but there are two other writers who access these projects and they need to be able to get those mappings. What appears to happen is...

Re: Anyone Have 3rd Parties Adding Custom Topics to Built Help?
That's a good question and I'll have to find out. I have a feeling some users will have the clearance for access to all, but some will not.
Thanks for all the feedback!

Re: Anyone Have 3rd Parties Adding Custom Topics to Built Help?
So, I have a few questions about WebHelp Plus. We've been using Flare for several years and we did not go with WebHelp Plus output for some reason or other. I'm thinking it was because it didn't support context-sensitive help. Or maybe it was too Windows-centric? I can't remember, but the v7 list of...

Re: Anyone Have 3rd Parties Adding Custom Topics to Built Help?
So now that I have tried this out, I can see that it works so long as we, the keepers of the master project, create a pointer to the child project in a TOC and generate the master project ourselves. Unfortunately, this is not what our workflow needs to be. We are still the keeper of the master proje...

Re: Anyone Have 3rd Parties Adding Custom Topics to Built Help?
That could work. It does seem like we'll need to get them on Flare. I forgot that you can merge with the output files and do not need to have the master project files (which is probably easiest).
I'll give that a try. Thanks!

Anyone Have 3rd Parties Adding Custom Topics to Built Help?
This topic is coming up more frequently in our organization and we will need to find a fairly simple solution. We are using WebHelp. We have developers within our company who create plug-ins for our products that are classified. No one in our group has the clearance needed to document these programs...

Link to projects w/small TOCs and not get duplicate topics?
I have built WebHelp output before where the main project has a TOC with links to sub projects and it creates one big, happy help build, but I am trying to do a variation of that and have run into a snag. In the past, the links to the sub projects were always to just one sub project TOC. So, for exa...

Re: Flare 6.1 build output skin is blank
I thought I finally corrected this issue, but it is stranger than ever. I still have Flare 6.1 on my machine and decided to redo the skins: The skins and the Flare projects are checked into Perforce With the new skins, I can generate a build on my machine using 6.1 and the skins appear as they shoul...

Re: Flare 6.1 build output skin is blank
We are using source control, but this problem started only after the 6.1 upgrade (it looks like several others are having similar troubles with the upgrade). I re-verified that I removed everything I need to from the skin, according to the knowledge base article, but no luck. And the exact same skin...

Re: Flare 6.1 build output skin is blank
I'm building with WebHelp. I tried removing the accordion items per the knowledge base article Topic Comments and Recent Comments Are No Longer Supported, but re-building after that did not help.

Flare 6.1 build output skin is blank
I've recently upgraded from Flare v 6.0 to 6.1. Now when I build my output and then view it, the skin is almost completely blank - no TOC or other accordion panes, and my home page doesn't show at all. If I compile the same project in v5, it all looks just fine (I don't have my copy of v6 anymore, b...

Yup, bookmarks were the culprit. I removed them from the TOC links and all is good.

Clicking on TOC doesn't always open topic at top of page
We have a curious issue happening in our WebHelp. All of the topics have a heading 1 at the top of the page, and all of them use a master page that has breadcrumbs above the heading 1. If we go to our generated help and click on a topic in the TOC, some of the topics open where you are at the top of...

Merged projects: can I suppress search for a project?
We are going to merge a second project into a main one for help and do not want the secondary project to be searchable (it's old information and we only want it accessible by TOC). I know you can suppress search for an individual file, but can you do it for files in batch or for an entire project? A...

Can I open TOC item in new new browser?
We are going to have two or three separate projects that we'll merge together into one help build. One of the projects contains information that we would rather have open up in a new browser window when you click on one of those TOC items, instead of the same window as the Help window you select it ...

Questions about importing Japanese content from FrameMaker
I'm trying an experiment where I take a FrameMaker file that was translated into Japanese and try to bring the file into Flare using File > Import Project > Import FrameMaker Documents feature. I have East Asian fonts installed for XP. The file is able to come across into Flare, but I cannot seem to...

Re: Can I Create TM database in Lingo from old FrameMaker files?
What I meant by a master language project was our project in English. What we originally created in FrameMaker (in English) is in now Flare, or is in the process of being imported into Flare. The FrameMaker-to-Flare import has required a fair amount of reformatting, and I would rather not go through...

Can I Create TM database in Lingo from old FrameMaker files?
We're using Flare 4.2 and are considering purchasing Lingo 3.0. We have numerous large documents that were translated in-house several years ago when we were using FrameMaker. To maintain the original translation, we send updated FrameMaker files to the group that does the translation and they perfo...

Re: How do I change toolbar topic proxy icon?
Thanks Dave! I didn't see (default) in the drop-down list for the basic Toolbar Item properties (and wouldn't have been sure what it would do, anyway). I also see now that the drop-down includes [Browse for Image...], in case I want to add my own icon. I was expecting an ellipsis next to the field, ...

How do I change toolbar topic proxy icon?
I'm inserting toolbar topic proxies in my topics as needed to help expand all or close all topics that are drop-downs. The icons I get when I select expand all or close all are not what I would expect. They look like this: ExpandClose.png I checked everywhere I could think of, and the Skin Editor is...

To follow up, I received a reply from MadCap support after I logged the bug. It turns out that I needed to enable a switch in the properties for the TOC link. To do this, right-click on the linked item in the TOC and select Properties. Pick the Advanced panel and enable "When merging, replace n...

Is this the expected behavior for breadcrumbs?
I just noticed something about breadcrumbs. I thought that breadcrumbs were supposed to show your location in relation to the Help TOC/book structure the topic falls under, but that is not always the case An example: We have a topic titled "Preferences" that is saved in a Content Explorer ...
