FBCONF files are overwritten by subsystems
I have a knowledge base that is divided into 5 subsections, each with a unique feedback key. When I configure and save the feedback settings for each subsection, the FBCONF file is overwritten because the first two files use the same file name. The end result is that I should have 5 separate configu...

Re: html help compiler crashes when building chm file
I've hit this several times and it keeps coming back. The problem as it was explained to me by MadCap support is actually with Flare. Some change in last year's version of Flare affected how Flare reads in the file names for runtime merging. Rather than use the path you specify, Flare tacks on some ...

Re: Linking from TOC in WebHelp to external web pages?
LTinker68, I like the idea of embedding files in a topic. In my situation, I link to 100's of controlled documents that must reside in another repository. All I have to work with is a link, not a freestanding file. The topic with a link in it is soemthing I considered, but the overhead was just too ...

Re: Hosting Issues with WebHelp Plus
I had something similar when setting up a webhelp plus output on a Win7 laptop. I went through the configuration document in the Flare help system, but something was missing. I called tech support and they were stumped. Fortunately, after poking around for a bit, the support rep spotted the issue. S...

Re: TOC/Index/Search Content Does not display in Vista
Already ahead of you. "You'll get an email if/when engineering gets around to look at this issue." However, I'm still hopeful. Two of my previous show stoppers were on the top 5 list of bug fixes for the last release of Flare. Ignoring this issue could really cripple MadCap. I hope they wi...

Re: TOC/Index/Search Content Does not display in Vista
I'm in a similar situation now with Windows 7 (Vista ++). What I'm told is that IS doesn't link up with WebHelpPlus, and that there's no way to make it work on that platform. This is also a showstopper for me, as I'm working with a KB that is also portable (on XP). As soon as we drop it onto a Windo...

Re: Autosearch content in TOC
Yes, but that's pretty tough for on-the-fly publishing with the AutoSearch folder. I'm hoping to find a way to expand our company's use of Flare and support a huge SOP project. If we could pull information as I suggested earlier, anyone could publish SOP materials written in Word (or converted to PD...

Autosearch content in TOC
Does anyone know a way to automatically populate the TOC with document property information (specifically the title or keywords) from PDFs, Word docs, etc.? I would like to be able to specify this information in the files and have it load automatically into my project without having to create a spec...

Re: Links from WebHelp to external files not working
I'm running into something similar at the moment. The only thing that seems to work is to hold the Ctrl key down until the linked file downloads or opens completely. That has worked for most users so far, but it's hardly an elegant, permanent solution. "Hi, welcome to my help system. Some links...

Re: Linking from TOC in WebHelp to external web pages?
I use this feature quite often. As kivinen stated, all you have to do is create a new TOC entry and specify the url in the Link field. I don't run into any issues unless the link doesn't work. If opening a file that resides in another system (in my case, our "awesome" PDMLink system...

Re: WebHelp Plus Search not functioning
HelpTrog, I'm glad you got everything working. For what it's worth, I submitted a request to MadCap to add the ability to include TOC names in searches. This would work hand-in-hand with setting the file property information to allow users to search for links (contained in the TOC) and some of those...

Re: WebHelp Plus Search not functioning
I believe you have to open your project for the first time from Flare, then can close it and open it from a browser before all of those things will work.
Good luck, sorry I wasn't much help.

Re: WebHelp Plus Search not functioning
I don't merge anything into my project at compile time, but I do put compiled help systems into the AutoMerge folder afterward. However, the AutoMergeCache folder always publishes on my machine. The fact that you don't see this folder on your server concerns me because you can see it locally. Does p...

Re: WebHelp Plus Search not functioning
I wonder if you just need to re-run ConfigureISForWebHelpPlus.exe on the server? Can you access content on the server using the Query the Catalog option? ( Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Services and Applications > Indexing Service > Web > Query the Catalog )

Re: WebHelp Plus Search not functioning
The instructions I provided were targeted primarily for fixing problems with hosting the system on a local machine, but we did the same things on our server.
Have you tried clearing the AutoMerge cache? Did it do anything?

Re: WebHelp Plus Search not functioning
I think the key is in making sure MCPreview is not enabled as an application and that you dump the AutoMerge cache. This should get the TOC working again. The rest of the steps are just "stock" to make sure you are still configured correctly and to ensure that the index will run.

Re: WebHelp Plus Search not functioning
What follows represents an afternoon of my life that I will never get back. Last week I ran across a similar problem where the TOC was blank and the index wasn't working correctly. We spent several hours trying everything we could think of and came up with this. Just for a little background informat...

Re: WebHelp Plus Search not functioning
I've been through hell and back building a hosted knowledge base with Flare v3/4 to get a few of these little gems. I hope something here will trigger an idea for you (if not, I'll keep digging through my notes). Most of the search issues I've found can be addressed by doing something simple: - dele...

Re: Copying and Pasting
I did select the entire paragraph, but the styles weren't applying correctly. I also applied the numbering properties correctly.
I finally closed and restarted Flare and the problem went away. Apparently, you just have to reboot between pastes and all is forgiven.

Re: Copying and Pasting

However, right-clicking on the block and making the change there worked only on the third or fourth attemp...

Re: Copying and Pasting
Version 4 introduces new copy and paste problems. Although you can specify a style when pasting, Flare sometimes locks the style and does not allow you to apply another. I am moving content into Flare from Word and am unable to apply any style other than "p" to some sections. Other section...

Non-html file keword search
Is it possible to read keywords stored with non-html files from a compiled WebHelp Plus project? I would like to be able to be able to search files that do not have text content (i.e., audio, video, and .jpg files) by accessing this information. To see what I'm talking about, right-click on a file i...
