Re: Google Translate
Yes, I know about MadCap Lingo. Sorry, but I've not made myself clear. It is the Topic/page in our project being viewed that currently we are able to click on a "Translate" button, and the text will appear in the selected language. We have this working fine with Flare's generated *.chm. Ho...

Google Translate
Given our move to HTML5, and software which is used in over 200 languages, is there any way we can invoke the likes of Google Translate to translate Topics into another language?

Re: Latest Flare r3 upgrade problems
Many, many thanks indeed. Looks like what may happened here is that Emisoft saw Flare as a threat. But equally so, Flare's post upgrade message that re-activation was required, was hidden behind other activity. The issue of such messages is something I've been concerned about for a while. Is there n...

Latest Flare r3 upgrade problems
While a colleague left us the following message before heading off fo9r his first Covid jab. Hence I'm attempting to do some research before he returns tomorrow. Has anyone had a similar experience? Folks: I had trouble installing the “2020 r3” upgrade to Flare 16. Now, maybe I know why. Earlier thi...

Chromium v MS Edge
This may be a really dumb question, but Flare 2020 R3's What's New? states: Chromium Replaces Internet Explorer.
Does this also mean the very latest version of Microsoft Edge?

Converting from legacy CHM to more up to date Help
This may well be the dumbest question of the decade, so apologies if that's the case. Since Flare was released way back, we have been generating CHM files, accessed from virtually anywhere within the application software. E.g. when focused on a menu item, pressing F1 will bring up the relevant Help ...

Re: Search - "No topics found" message
Hi Joe, We cannot thank you enough for the link you provided. I more than suspect that the problem with the itcc.dll becoming unregistered was likely caused by one of those two July 2020 updates to Windows 10 version 2004. I do not believe it a co-incidence that two separate systems, one on each sid...

Search - "No topics found" message
Has anyone found that the CHM's Search function no longer works after building? This is happening on our system here, as well as with our partners in the US. Source Control is handled by GIT, and both systems are on different networks. We are running Flare 2020 r2, while the US are on r1, It appears...

Re: Find within a Topic
A colleague supplied the answer.
When focus is on a Topic within the CHM, the command Control + f will bring up the search dialogue where results will only show for that specific topic.
It is a standard keyboard shortcut in IE.

Find within a Topic
Our project has a number of Topics where the ability to search within just the Topic in focus has been frequently asked for by users. I can only like the process to IE's "Find on this page" function. We are using the very latest version of Flare, and wondering if such an option is availabl...

Re: Link to external download of MSI file
We have found the solution! Please be aware of this, as it may well affect you if you have download links in your projects. Most confusing was the Web Browser’s claim of being, “Unable to open this Internet site..”. Hardly intuitive given the solution below. It appears that Microsoft have changed on...

Link to external download of MSI file
We have an frustrating situation in a project (Flare 2019 r2) where we have a link to download an MSI file from an external web site. e.g. https://www.website.com/downloads/file.msi When we compile the project, the link works perfectly well in Windows 10 (version 1909) However, it stubbornly refuses...

Re: Text to right of image
Many thanks for the quick reply. I will be quite honest, being far from a coder, I normally only go to the editor for very simple corrections. Otherwise it's the WYSIWYG editor. Since it is possible to deal with text and image vertically, I felt sure I was missing a similar feature for horizontal po...

Text to right of image
Imagine you have a vertical image of a lift (or elevator) buttons. It is approximately 1 inch wide and 3.75 inches tall, and 9 buttons. I want to image on the left side of the page, with the text to the right of each button. The only way I have been able to do this, is by creating a 2 column, 1 line...

Re: Flare crashes when connecting to GIT
Having been using a beta test to overcome the problem, I have now applied the latest 2019 r2 version of Flare just released, and the problem has certainly been resolved here. I did also ask MadCap who confirmed that it had been addressed, although at the time was not documented as such. Although you...

Re: Flare crashes when connecting to GIT
I quite agree with you, but being in contact with clients as much as I am there are two side to this issue. 1) Madcap's system appears to be based on the number of reports before they take serious action. Yet one Source Control issue often affects man users!! 2) Few administrators upgrade systems fo...

Re: Non-breaking space failure
Hi Jeff, to be honest I wasn't quite sure where to post it, but suffice to say that I was in Flare, in a Topic, and in Print view of that Topic. So it's not a Word issue. My test might have been crude, but essentially was to type some "normal" text, and then the telephone number making sur...

Non-breaking space failure
I seem to have stumbled into an odd case where non-breaking spaces are "breaking". It is the accepted norm when authoring internationally distributed manuals, to add a zero in brackets as shown below in telephone numbers. +44 (0)123 456 7890 However, regardless of what type of bracket is u...

Re: Flare crashes when connecting to GIT
I'm not sure where Madcap policy stands here, so may be out of line with my response. However, I suggest you telephone Flare's support and ask about a fix which is in the works for this problem. This week I was asked to check out a new version to ensure it resolved things, and so far, I do not appea...

Re: Moving Topics to Folders
We always start any move in a situation where there are no changed files to be saved. Just one of the problems is that we have no idea when an error will come up after we initiate the move. What happens is that even if 4 or 5 have been successful immediately prior to the error, if we go to Commit, t...

Moving Topics to Folders
Does anyone else, using GIT for source control, have issues when moving multiple Topics from one folder to another? We have a fully up to date Windows 10 system, 32 GB of RAM, an I7 processor, an SSD and the latest Flare, we are being plagued with errors. If we try to move more than one Topic at a t...

Index without Topic Page Numbers
This may seem an odd request, but we have a 650 page document comprising of over 100 Countries and around 200 Languages. The Index for this runs to around 10 pages. We have realised that this Index is a potentially valuable marketing document, but the Topic page numbers are a distraction. Has anyone...

Word - TOC without graphics
Is it my imagination, or has the latest version of Flare finally got red of graphics within Headings when building a Table of Contents? I've long complained as we have around 200 language topics where the Title contains an image of the country's flag. I do not recall seeing mention of this in "...

April 2019 release
We are currently running Flare 2018 R2 in 2 locations. The main site is in the US with a satellite site in the UK. We are using Git for Source Control. It is entirely possible I have missed the question in the release notes as to whether it is safe to use both versions to work on the same project(s)...
