Re: Showing help in an application's Start Page
Thanks very much for answering Dave. I haven't done a great job of explaining, so let me try again. The product is Windows software, for use on a desktop computer, the way you use Flare, Framemaker etc. When you start the software, you see a screen that looks very similar to what you see when you st...

Showing help in an application's Start Page
Hi, My product's opening "Start" view is very similar to Flare's, There's a Start Page in a central pane that could be used to show Recent projects, What's New information, Support Links, Links to PDFs etc etc. I would like to show help pages in the central pane when the user clicks an opt...

Issue with creating new project from source control (SVN)
Hi, I'm seeing some inconsistent behaviour when I try to create a new project in Flare, using the File>New Project>Import Project (Starts the Import Project from Source Control Wizard) command. The source control system is SVN. I'm on Flare 12. In a previous workplace, this command worked fine, ever...

Thanks to you both. I'm normally fairly careful about searching the forum before posting, but I missed the previous reports of this issue.

Problem with Find and Replace
Hi, I have a strange problem with Find and Replace. No one I've spoken to has experienced it. Say I use the Find and Replace functionality for a while. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, the Find field refuses to accept any input. I can place the cursor in the field and delete the text that is there,...

Re: How to revert to a previous revision using SVN
Just to say that this is still acknowledged as an issue by Support in Flare 11, and I've added my details to the feature request.

Re: How to revert to a previous revision using SVN
Hi, I'm having the same problem. The feedback from Support is to make an inconsequential change (to the version you've reverted to), giving you the red tick and enabling you to check in the selected previous version. This works in that I can save the previous version, and therefore display the topic...

Question about table stylesheets and printing
Hi, I have a table stylesheet with separate custom column widths for default and print mediums. In HTML5 and PDF outputs, the behaviour is pretty much what I want, in that the table columns reflect the default and print settings in my table stylesheets. However, when I print a topic from the generat...

Problems resolving conflicts with SVN
Hi, I occasionally have problems with source control conflict resolution in Flare, and would appreciate some feedback on the best approach. Details are as follows: - I'm running Flare 11 - I work with one other author - We work on different areas of the system, but occasionally on the same topics - ...

Re: Optimizing Search in HTML outputs
Daniel, Thanks for the webinar. Very useful. When performing searches of my content, I've realised that the breadcrumbs proxy is being included in the search. So if I search on "querying" (not necessarily a brilliant search term I agree) I get all the topics where the breadcrumbs path incl...

Re: SVN - Linking a project to other projects
So one person is picking up an import file from SVN which has the path that is specific to someone else. If you're using a shared project, then I'd suggest keeping the master/global project in a location which will be the same for everyone; for example (a) put the project in a shared network folder...

Re: SVN - Linking a project to other projects
Workflow A would consist of the Master project being imported from source control locally to the writers machines. Then imported to the child projects(All done locally). Since Master projects do not get changed often, it would be best to notify the team of the change and prompt them to update their...

Re: Multiple style sheets
Johanna, You could add a css to the topics in project 1, at topic level, before you merge it with project 2. To do this, in project 1, set the css in Project Properties to default, and do the same for any targets. Then, at the top of Content Explorer, click the second button from the left (Toggle Sh...

Re: Material with 2 tags included even if one tag is excluded
Dave, Firstly, many thanks for your patience. What you've suggested works. I mean, literally, that clause is all I need to use to include what I want and exclude what I don't want. But I'm not clear on why it works. Why is tennis and football excluded? If I look at the help at: http://webhelp.madcap...

Re: Material with 2 tags included even if one tag is excluded
I expect the general consensus would be that I'm setting too many conditions, at too greater degree of complexity, for my current expertise, and that's fair enough. However, I'll have a further go at explaining what I'm doing. Supposing I have the following conditions: Print Screen Golf Tennis Socce...

Re: Instability with long topics - is there a maximum length?
The recommendation I received from MadCap is to work in web layout for long topics where Flare appears to be struggling. In my case this has certainly improved things. A topic with a very long table that could not be worked with in print layout is okay in web.
Cheers.

Re: Material with 2 tags included even if one tag is excluded
Dave, Thanks for your reply. The examples that I've seen in the help cover, say, ConditionA AND NOT (ConditionB AND ConditionC), which is different from what I'm attempting. I'm trying for ConditionA AND/OR? not ConditionA AND ConditionB). In other words I want condition A, but not when the content ...

Re: Material with 2 tags included even if one tag is excluded
Hi,
Taking the example from the opening post, is it possible to include content tagged with AML, but exclude content tagged with both AML and 1.0? The help doesn't include an example of this, and I can't get it to work.
Many thanks.

Re: Can you rename the print medium in the Flare UI
On getting the Contents to appear in the bookmarks, but not in the TOC, I contacted MadCap support and got the following answer: "To have the Table of Contents appear in the bookmarks pane but not the generated TOC you must change the TOC heading to an h6, then change the h6 mc-heading-level to...

Re: Changing stylesheets for a project
Hi, Just another word on this. I see that my table stylesheets are referenced in the head element of a topic in the same way that the normal stylesheet was. And if you right click on the topic and go Properties>Topic properties, the table stylesheet shows as the style sheet. The procedure to change ...
