Re: Unnecessary vertical scrollbar on HTML5 Help topics

Thanks Dave.

My TOC is on the left side, so it's a Side Nav skin, I believe. In the Skin Editor, the Fixed Header is set to All. I tried the other option, Web, but didn't see any difference in the output.

Good idea to check the code.

Unnecessary vertical scrollbar on HTML5 Help topics

Hello,

I understand why there would be a vertical scroll bar for topics when the content won't all fit on the screen. But my Help system has an unnecessary vertical scrollbar on all my HTML5 Help topics, even short ones.

The extra vertical scroll bar also adds unwanted white space above the ...

Re: Flare and Docs-as-Code

Thanks. My goal is to reduce the delay between pushing changes to the Help and the changes displaying on a site where QA can review. Rather than involving markup or trying to build on a server, I can probably accomplish this via streamlined approval process.

Thanks for all the good insights ...

Thanks for your ideas. Trying to streamline the approval process is a good idea.

How to use Flare in docs-as-code? That's my dilemma. If I could export the source files in markdown or another plain text format from Flare I could use the resulting files in Jekyll and then replace Flare with Jekyll ...

Flare and Docs-as-Code

Hello all.

It seems that a lot of writers now take a docs-as-code approach where they write the docs in a text editor, compile using a static site generator (like Jekyll) and publish to a company server. I'm wondering is anyone has experience implementing the docs-as-code concept and how Flare ...

JavaScript and HTML5 outputs

Hello all.

I'm looking for suggestions for books, webinars, and other sources that can teach me how to add interesting features to my HTML5 Help system using JavaScript. So far I've reviewed the MadCap for Programmers book. I also incorporated the Top button feature from the Flare Help tutorial ...

Re: New to Flare - Top nav with side menu proxy

The hierarchy of the side menu of a HTML5 Help system corresponds to the hierarchy of the target's TOC. Maybe I'm not understanding the issue, though. Can you attach a screenshot of what's going wrong?

PDFs in Search Results

Hello,

I have a PDF in my Top Nav Help TOC. I want users to be able to search for the PDF name and find it in Search Results. Is there anyway to do this? I don't want to search the contents of the PDF, just the file name.

Thanks.

Add files in Visual Studio 2015

Hello everyone.

I have my Flare 2017 R2 project bound to source control in Visual Studio 2015. When I check in my files through the Flare UI, check-in works fine but I get an error if there's a new file. I have to go into Visual Studio and manually add the new file. Any ideas on how to get Add to ...

Can I limit Top Nav search results?

Hello,

Can you change ''All Files" label in a search filter?

When users use a search filter in the Top Navigation Help, I want them to be able to select ''All Topics" instead of "All Files".
All Files.png
But I can't find where to change this label. I can't change it in the Search Filter Editor.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: using variables - best practice

The best practice seems to be to insert variables as you write, including a product name variable. I'll start typing the product name and a popup displays to insert the variable. Then it's done and I don't have to deal with the variable anymore, other than to change the definition if I need to ...

Re: how do I format the print version of a web page output

Is it common for your users to generate a paper version a Help topic? Since you're already providing a PDF version, wouldn't that suffice? If they want to, couldn't they just print pages from the PDFs? Just wondering if this is an issue worth spending your time solving.

And you're doing this in the Skin Editor > Styles > Header > Logo > Background section, right?

A PNG should work in theory. My image header logo is a JPG and works fine so maybe try saving the image as a JPG and see if that works.

Re: Watermark in PDF Output – Layering Issue in Page Layout

Hi Audrey,

The first thing I would play with would be the color shade of the watermark text. A lighter color gray may make it easier to ready both the pages with just text and the pages with images and tables.

Another option would be to remove the watermark and put the same content of the ...

The Menu section of Single Topic skin dictates how the menus display. But I don't see an option for drop shadows. That would be a nice feature, though.

Re: Top Navigation- Advance - Replace Menu Arrows

Hi Craig,

I think it's the Bullet1.png file in the Images folder for top navigation. Maybe create a backup of Bullet1.png, rename the new image Bullet1.png, generate and see what happens. If it doesn't work, just replace the Bullet1.png in the Images folder with the backup.

It seems like the style class isn't being used by the PDF target. Is the {class="small-12"} style also in the print medium of the style sheet? To check In the Style Sheet Editor change the Medium to print. If the style class is not not there, you can add it.

Page numbers have disappeared from PDF ouputs

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I haven't made any changes to my page layout but the page number variable suddenly no longer displays in the page layout editor or my PDF outputs. But the page number variable does display when I edit the footer:

No Page Number.png
