Re: Exporting the File List to Excel?
I submitted this question to tech support and they said that it was not currently possible. They forwarded it to dev as a feature request. Who knows, maybe someday . . .

Re: Has anyone used Acrolinx?
We have Acrolinx as well, but haven't made it work with Flare either. I'd be interested in this too.

Exporting the File List to Excel?
Is it possible to export the 'File List' to Excel? I want to be able to do my own filtering and reports on the data, but I can't find a way to do this. Basically, I want to use the new file tagging functionality in Flare 6 and then generate metrics/graphs on the tag info: - % topics per author. - % ...

Also, if you have MOTW (Mark of the Web) enabled, all links to non htm files will not work. Try disabling this if it is on.

Re: Can Flare do these things?
-can it read a cell in a spreadsheet for particular content for a topic? In other words, if I have a CSV or Excel file, can the various cells in it be sourced by Flare to be put into specific places in the resulting publication in some way? Technically, the answer to this one is, no. However, there...

Re: Best way to single-source for version-specific user guide?
I use conditions and variables to single source multiple releases and multiple targets for the same project. It works pretty good for the most part, though I will admit it gets complicated after a few releases. I think that is the case with most of the conditional tagging systems I've used. What I d...

Re: Tracking when search word used
That would be a good feature add. You might want to submit it through the bug/feature tool in the support area. As far as I know, this information isn't captured by the tool. You can, however, click the 'Reset search counts' button to blank the search data. If you export the search data, before you ...

Re: Custom Colors for Admin Posts
I submitted a request for this same functionality. You are absolutely right. If the purpose of this tool is to create a dialog between you and your customers, then they have to be able to distinguish between you and some random guy. If you haven't already, you should submit this as an enhancement th...

Re: Flare 5 Performance Seems Slow
I haven't seen any change in performance here. Though we have only had it for a short time, so maybe I'll notice as time goes by. Aside from ensuring you have turned off phrase collection (Tools>options>Disable Phrase Collection) and making sure you are not running the project off of a networked dri...

Re: How'd they do that? (Info Bar in TOC Editor)
I believe that the info bar you are talking about is only for help within Flare itself. So, if you open the master TOC for your project and then click the blue triangle with the 'i' in it, you will see a couple of lines of helpful text appear/disappear. I don't know of any way to add this functional...

Re: Flare 5 now available
I got my new number and I have F5 up and running. I am just playing around with some of the new features now to see how they look. I think there is a bug in the new Diff function for the file backup. The differences are marked correctly in the text mode, but when I switch to the WYSIWYG mode, it jus...

Re: Highlighting where changes have been made
I don't have an answer for you either, but it is something I requested as well. For us, it would be for document reivews. I would definitely recommend submitting it to MadCap as an enhancement. Who knows, maybe it will get in the next release. What I would like is the ability to do real revision tra...

Re: Print Table Styles - Do I have to apply them to each table?
Definitely recommend using the: File>Backups... tool on the table style sheet (and other stylesheets for that matter).
I had done this and after restoring the stylesheet I just had to redo a couple of things. What a relief.

Re: Print Table Styles - Do I have to apply them to each table?
I just discovered one seriously annoying issue with this. I modified my table stylesheet and added a new media section as described. It worked perfectly and I was really happy with it. Then I went back and opened the table stylesheet using the GUI editor and changed a border width setting and saved....

Re: registration (user profile) problems
I think we have worked this out on our project. Our web person shifted some files around which caused some issues with cookies. Strangely, the issue only occorred in IE 6. It worked just fine in Firefox and IE 7. Also, it worked in IE6 if I first lowered my privacy setting one notrch from Medium to ...

Re: registration (user profile) problems
I'm having the same issues as have been stated above. I noticed that when it wasn't working there was a privacy warning at the bottom of the browser and when I opened the notice it looks like this: privacy.jpg After I ratcheted my privacy settings down to completely open, it worked--though that prob...

Re: Building - Object Reference Not Set To Instance of an Object
I checked the build messages and noticed that I got the error right as it was processing a specific topic. I removed that topic from the build and tried again and everything worked fine. The topic in question has a very large table that was imported from a RoboHelp X5 project--not sure if that has a...

Re: Remove condiotional tags quickly
I have a related question. Is it possible to not only remove a conditional tag, but also remove the text assigned to that tag? So, if you have some text that only applies to release X and you are moving to release Y and want to delete all of this text automatically, can you say "Delete conditio...

Have you tried going into the style sheet (img>unclassified>max-width) and setting it to a suitable size for the print medium?
That is what I am doing and it seems to work fine.

Re: Using Flare for a "real" book - experiences/suggestions?
As Beagley said, there are some rough edges to the pdf output feature. I'm still having some minor issues with table formatting and graphics, but I have to admit that some of these issues may be me and not the tool. That said, I love the pdf output option. I'm using it right now to single source OLH...

Re: Section Numbers in TOC, Index, and XRef
Thank You, MadCap! The 4.1 udpate fixes this problem. The 'What's New' topic in the help says that the fix addresses a page number issue in the indexing, but it also fixes the page numbering in the ToC of the PDF. I could hardly believe my eyes when I regenerated the pdf and the ToC was perfect. It ...
