Re: Is Flare 2022 a bit slow?
Is Flare 2022 a bit slow? Yes, it seems to be, at least for stylesheets, but I've only just downloaded it, so am still experimenting. Copying and pasting a topic or image in the Content Explorer is OK, as is editing a topic in the XML or text editor, including adding an image. Stylesheets are slow ...

Thanks, Dave. That looks very helpful and will be a great first step before trying to enable text comments.

User feedback on help that is NOT indexed by Google - Pulse?
I'm investigating enabling user comments on our HTML5 help. Looking at MadCap's help, MacCap's website, and posts in the forums, I'm not sure where to start. Evidently, there was something called MadCap Feedback, but that's been deprecated. There's Pulse, but that came out in 2013 and the most recen...

Moving Flare+license to new computer
I have Flare 2018 r2 on Windows 10 and had just downloaded SetupMadCapFlare_2019.exe when I was told I was getting a new PC today. Is this the correct procedure? 1. Save and zip everything on old PC. 2. Take screenshots of custom colors, as they might not copy over? 3. In Flare on old PC, Help > Dea...

Re: Main Menu Position = Right - but not in output
Aha! Thanks for that, Dave.
Yes, I see what's going on now. If I widen my browser window, the hamburger is replaced with the menu on the right, so I don't even need the proxy at the top, that is in the master page.

Main Menu Position = Right - but not in output
In my skin, I've set the Main Menu Position to be Right, and the illustrated example on the dialog shows roughly what that should look like. (If I change it to Top or Left, the example changes accordingly.) But in the HTML5 output, the menu is resolutely at the top. I guess it's being overridden som...

Re: Want to prevent page break before H3, but can't
Problem solved, but answer may be of use to others: this is a very short document and for lazy reasons, all the headings are h3, but in the TOC, they're top level. In the target's Advanced tab, I had "Use TOC depth for heading levels" selected, so Flare was effectively treating the h3s as ...

Re: Want to prevent page break before H3, but can't
Ah, that makes some sense, Nita and devjoe. Thanks. I'm less sure what I should change things to, but I'll experiment. Edit: I removed all the page-break elements from all the styles (except page-break-inside: avoid for notes which are in boxes). I checked all the individual h3s are set to default. ...

Re: Tumbleweed... Where is everyone?
I can only see one post in the Slack channel for Flare - plus a message promising more content if I pay! I wouldn't want to do that without knowing what I'll get, and probably not even then. My company is unlikely to pay, and I don't think I want to pay $7 of my own money every month. Thanks anyway.

Re: Want to prevent page break before H3, but can't
Good idea, but no. In each case, the paragraph immediately after the h3 is short, and when I double-checked the Breaks settings for the paragraphs, they're all (default), which is what I would expect. It's the same for each of the paragraphs immediately preceding the h3s. I imported from Word, but i...

Re: Variables: can't find how Target and Project ones intera
Thanks, Choccie. That helped. Opening up all three in the text editor, I saw that for one target, there were no variables define. It just had empty start and end: <variables></variables> The other target, where there was just one variable acting oddly, had that variable defined in the target. So I d...

Re: Want to prevent page break before H3, but can't
There's no "KeepWithNext" or similar anywhere in the css. The definitions for h3 are below. (And although this is my first PDF in this project, I won't ever want a forced page break before h3s in future.) h3 { color: #fa0a54; page-break-before: avoid; page-break-after: avoid; page-break-in...

Tumbleweed... Where is everyone?
I'm back with Flare, after four years of barely using it. 2007-2014, I was a regular here (answering, as well as asking). It was a busy and therefore highly useful place. This week, it's almost deserted. Is this the new norm, or just because of factors like US holiday for MLK + shutdown, or because ...

Variables: can't find how Target and Project ones interact
I'm getting back to Flare after a gap, using Flare 2018 v2 on Windows 10 PC. I have a simple project with Variables > General, and then each of the targets I'm using (PDF and HTML5) has a Variables tab. I'm trying to find info in help and knowledge base about how the project and target interact, esp...

Custom color displays OK in editor, but not in compiled help
Long time since I last posted here. Now getting back to Flare, with PDF and HTML5 outputs, using Flare 2018 v2 on Windows 10 PC. I've defined font colors using hex values in the color picker. They look fine in Flare's editor, but not quite right in the help or PDF. I found a setting to fix it in the...

Re: Colors not correct in PDF output when printed
I just had this. In my case, I'd defined the colors using hex values in the color picker. They looked fine in Flare's editor, but not the PDF. I found a setting to fix it: 1. Open target in editor. 2. View PDF Options tab. 3. About half way down is a field, "Convert RGB Colors to CMYK". 4....

Want to prevent page break before H3, but can't
Long time since I last posted here. Now getting back to Flare, with PDF and HTML5 outputs, using Flare 2018 v2 on Windows 10 PC. The first PDF is a QSG. I don't want page breaks before the heading 3s, but I can't switch them off. I've edited the style in the css, so page-break-before is "avoid&...

Re: TOC editor showing %=System.LinkedTitle% and can't switc
You upgraded ... from what to what? Good question. I opened Flare this morning, and got the prompt to download an update, which I did. But you're right: it's saying Flare 12, whereas looking at a post I made in the forum a few days ago, I used to have Flare 2017 r3. I just checked for updates, and ...

TOC editor showing %=System.LinkedTitle% and can't switch
This morning, I upgraded my version of Flare. The main - and infuriating - difference is that the TOC editor is showing [%=System.LinkedTitle%] for all the entries. The mouseover shows the full path and name, but that's small consolation. How do I make it default to the more usable format of showing...

Re: Page numbers have disappeared
I have a fix from Support. The page layout was fine, but the TOC didn't know it needed to use it. And it would have taken me a very long time to figure out what I hadn't set. I needed to select first proper topic > Properties > Print Output. Then select: Break Type = Chapter Break pick the Page Layo...

Re: Page numbers have disappeared
I still suspect margin and/or padding. It could be for the td (row) in your footer table. It could be for the paragraph block (assuming they're present) within the cells of the row. If you temporarily adjust the margins and/or padding of the content, making making all the settings 0, does that help...

Re: Page numbers have disappeared
Thanks, Choccie. That's true of the picture in the original post, but not for me. I have just two frames: body and footer. The footer frame has
[Sytem.PageNumber] [Other.company]
Both of which work as expected on a very similar page layout that is for a smaller paper size.

Re: Page numbers have disappeared
Thanks, Nita. I tried moving the bottom of the body frame and the top of the footer frame further up the page, and then increasing the padding below the footer text. No difference. I have looked at a very similar page layout that does work, and see no obvious difference, other than the paper size. I...
