Re: Problems adding new file to project linked to source control
Here's a perfect example of the problem. I added a topic to a project then manually checked the .htm file in, checking the Keep Checked Out box and exited from Flare. Then I added some images to the file and saved it. Note: all the files had the Add to Source Control box checked when they were added...

Re: Problems adding new file to project linked to source control
If you need to work directly in source control outside of Flare at any point, you can reconcile the two again using Source Control > Refresh in Flare. I use Perforce and always check in directly from Perforce, as I have more control over the checkin options there. I just select my Contents folder a...

Problems adding new file to project linked to source control
This is a new problem that began in Flare 9. It use to be when you went to add a new topic in a project that was linked to source control (in our case SourceSafe version 8.0.50727.4414), that a window would popup during the copy file to project phase that would give you the option to add the file to...

Re: Flare 9 issues
Actually, I've noticed that, in general, Flare doesn't refresh well anymore, whether it's correctly flagging files that are added/checked in or just updating files using variables. I just had an incident where I was modifying a document that hadn't been updated since last year. We have a "globa...

Flare 9 issues
Anyone else besides me annoyed that they removed the Copy to Project step when adding a new topic? In previous versions of Flare after filling in the information in the Add New Topic wizard you'd get a popup that reviewed what was being copied and there was a checkbox that gave you the option to aut...

Re: Flare 9 buggy as all get out. You too?
The problem with selecting text that spans page breaks isn't new. I've had that issue before in earlier versions. In those cases, I just had to switch to the web layout in order to get it to work correctly. What we've been experiencing is issues with Flare interfacing with Sourcesafe. When I add fil...

I got word back from Madcap that they have this listed as a bug under numbers 75510 and 75512.

How to auto-remove local files deleted from Sourcesafe?
So, here's the problem: Both users are on Windows 7. User 1 opens a project in Flare and deletes a bunch of files from it, selecting the option to remove them from source control. The files are gone from User 1's PC and from Visual SourceSafe (version 8). User 2 uses Flare 9.1.1 to open up project (...

Does anyone else hate the search function on this forum?
I have been trying for ages to couch a search phrase or a group of words on this forum to see if anyone has addressed an issue before. Either I get nothing or it tells me the words being used are too common. Grrrrrr!!!!

Re: Flare's "Spell Check While Typing" flags every word
I'd check the language of the topic - if it is not the same as the project language you would see this problem. Topic: find the topic in the content explorer and right click to get the Properties dialog, and then the Language tab. Project: On the Project Ribbon tab look for Project properties at th...

Flare's "Spell Check While Typing" flags every word
Anyone run into this before? I opened up a topic (it's been in the project since it was first created and was converted into Flare from Word). I have the Spell Check While Typing mode on. Nearly every word in the topic is flagged as misspelled: flare-spell-check.png This doesn't happen to every topi...

Auto end on left page and page numbering issue
So, here's my dilemma. For h1 topics, I generally want them to start on a right hand page. So, in my Chapter PageLayout, I have a layout defined for Right pages, Left pages, First pages and Empty pages. I'll start off my chapter in the TOC with assigning it to the Chapter PageLayout and selecting Fi...

Re: Analyzer 2.3 falsly reports unlinked topics
If I see anything strange, I usually close the project (in Analyzer and/or Flare) and delete the project's Analyzer folder. The Analyzer database will be rebuilt when you open the project again. Analyzer 2.3 is reasonably old; I'm assuming you're using it with the appropriate Flare version (I'm gue...

Analyzer 2.3 falsly reports unlinked topics
I ran Analyzer 2.3 on a project so I could clean up any outdated material, deleting topics and graphics no longer in use. There are at least three topic files that show up under Topics Not Linked that, in fact, have links to several TOCs as well as several other topics. Anyone have a clue why? This ...

Enabling instant message after installation
When I originally installed Flare, it asked during the setup if I wanted to enable instant messaging. As I was the only one at the time using Flare, it seemed silly to enable that since there was no one to IM. Now that we have another writer working here, being able to IM them would be convenient. H...

Re: Auto import of linked topics fails on build
I'm seeing this same issue in Flare 7.2 on Windows 7 SP1. Have you found a resolution yet? I thought my issues might be related to some key files being set to read-only, but I made sure to check out both project files and the import file before building. (My projects are not bound to source control...

Capture turning caption text turning into hyperlink
Has anyone run into this? I was adding a caption to a screenshot and typed in the words: file:detail. Capture turned them into what appears to be a hyperlink: capture_hyperlink_text..png I tried removing the underline and changing the text back to black but those options don't appear in the property...

Auto import of linked topics fails on build
Anyone run into this? I have some topics that are linked from another project and I can go to the Import file and re-import them just fine. For building a target, I have it set to auto-import on building. However, I always get an error that the import failed. Any idea why this might be? I'm running ...

Re: Table footers
Does it have to be attached to the table? You can add a footer in the Page Layout that can display just on those pages. I tried that but there's too much information and the page footer already has several things. I'd have to create a new page layout and redo the size of the body and footer as well...

Table footers
Has anyone been able to successfully create a table footer that shows up on every page (much like a table header appears on every page)? In the WYSIWYG editor, it sometimes appears on pages and sometimes not. But, when I build a PDF output, the footer only appears on the last page of the table. Whic...

Re: Importing a WORD table into a topic
I am encountering this same problem also. My clients want to maintain content in Word, and have a "one-click" solution for generating online Help. Flare's inability to sense a table header is causing a lot of manual editing that is unacceptable to them. How can I submit a change request t...
