Agreed Riley.
I also filed a bug with Madcap titled, "You broke the Style Window!" I was hoping there was some secret option somewhere that toggled this new functionality but, alas, it's just a bug (or a rambunctious polar bear cub, depending on your slant ).

Style Window Jumps
Just upgraded to Flare 8. Now every time I scroll down the Style window and click a paragraph style, the style window jumps back to the top. This did not occur in Flare 7 and is super annoying. I have my styles named a certain way so they are grouped together and when I scroll down the Style window,...

Re: Using Snippet tool (Ctrl+R)
Lew, No magic that you haven't already discussed. I do manage a considerable amount of snippets as well and find floating the Content Explorer pane useful. That way, I can view nearly the entire list of snippets and drag and drop as needed. Always place your cursor first before drag and drop. Makes ...

Re: Linking between merged WebHelp topics
Todd, The master contains a TOC entry topic with links to topics in the child Are you trying to link to a single topic in the child WebHelp system from the Parent TOC? I could be wrong, but I don't think this is possible. I think you can only link to an entire WebHelp system from a parent TOC. (Love...

Re: Merging more than two WebHelp outputs?
Is there a trick to stacking merged help systems in your TOC? It does not seem to work.
That is, my TOC looks like this:
Welcome
[Merged Help 1]
- [merged Help 2]
- [merged Help 3]
[Merged Help 4]
Merged Help 2 and 3 are not appearing in the output.
Any help is appreciated!

Re: See Also Links repeating in merged WebHelp
Unfortunately, I discovered my theory was correct. Even though I am authoring from one project, I cannot include concepts in my See Also links to topics that do not appear in the same child TOC. Doing so includes the topic in the child's output files. Then, when you view a See Also link through the ...

Re: See Also Links repeating in merged WebHelp
I am currently working with Madcap Support on this issue, but I think I know why the See Also link is repeating topics when viewed by the parent Help system... For WebHelp targets, there is a new property on the Advanced tab called, "Exclude content not linked directly or indirectly from the ta...

See Also Links repeating in merged WebHelp
I am generating a merged WebHelp system. I have 6 books in the TOC. The first is normal. The next 5 are subsystems which are compiled first and merged with the main Help. I am using Flare 7.1. The problem is, after I generate the main Help, the See Also links in my subsystem Help topics repeat. Has ...

Re: Word output won't complete
Problem solved. Chalk this one up to poor error reporting. So the problem didn't actually have anything to do with the TOC. As far as I know, whether you build your TOC from scratch or borrow TOC items from another TOC does not matter. Your output to Word should still run. My error occurred because ...

Re: Word output won't complete
Do you still get the error if you create a new TOC file, add a few topics, and associate the TOC to the output then build? Just tried it. No, I did not get the error when I just added a few topics to a new TOC, associated the new TOC, and built. (You are The Queen of Flare, Lisa, so I'm sure you ha...

Re: Make row text show on next page
I don't think that is possible, Nick. The work around is to get your table row to all appear on the same page. You can set your table Row to avoid inside page breaks. 1. Double-click table.css. 2. Click Rows tab. 3. Click Advanced button. 4. Under Page Break...Inside...click Avoid. I know it's not w...

The point is, Flare gives an obscure error message that can mean many things. Mine was just an example. B...

Re: ERROR: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Re: "Chapter #" System Variable in TOC
Lisa, This worked. Thank you for your help. For posterity, to get the words "Chapter #" to appear in your TOC when you direct to pdf, you should: 1. Amend the mc-auto-number-format property for your H1 style with the following text: GA:Chapter {n+} This will add the text: "Chapter&quo...

"Chapter #" System Variable in TOC
How do I get the words "Chapter [chapter number variable]" to appear in the printed TOC? This should be a layup, but it is driving me nuts. I have a Page Layout with the words "Chapter [variable=System.ChapterNumber]" on the First page and tagged as an H1. It appears nicely above...

Search and Togglers
When you search, topics that contain the term appear even if the text is "hidden" in a toggler. Is there a way to have the toggler automatically open so you can see where the term is? It looks like Flare's own Help system solved this.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Translating "Related Topics"
As a work around, I got rid of the text from the skin and the stylesheet and created a bitmap with the Japanese term for the WebHelp. It doesn't make sense that the "Related Topics" would translate for the .chm and not the WebHelp, but you can only beat your head against a wall so many tim...
