Re: Landscape body but Portrait header and footer

Thanks for the fast responses. I understand about having each topic that needs a different page layout start on a new chapter - I've done that. It works even though it's very annoying. It would be much simpler if you could simply add a new page type to the page layout set that would allow you to ...

Re: Landscape body but Portrait header and footer

Hi navoff,
You asked:
"If I set a page to landscape, then the headers and footers are landscape too. Is there some other way to get this to work? "
I got this to work by setting the page to landscape and then used Layout>Rotate to rotate the Header and Footer frames. The content of the Header and ...

Related topics in external project - how to link?

Hi folks,
Here is what is puzzling me today...
I have a Main Help system to which various smaller Help systems can be added on the fly, depending on the components purchased by the client. I am using the help merging procedure described in the Flare Help (placing the Component Help in a "Subsystems ...

How to localize Flare System variables

Hi folks,
I'm hoping that someone has an answer to this one.
Back story: We produce versions of our documents in French, German, Italian and Spanish. I would like to include one of the System date variables (LongDate or ShortDate) in the documents. If I use LongDate, the words have to be translated ...

Re: Flare freezes when updating links of moved topics (Perforce)

Actually, I don't think it's a bug. It's FAD for now since Perforce is not one of the source control systems that Flare currently supports (at least that's what we were told). For now we are managing our files manually as well. It's not that difficult, but you do have to make sure that you shut down ...

Re: How to limit the number and size of WebHelp output files

Hi R.
I just checked and you are right - I could delete the images in version 4.2, but not in 5.0 - but in 5.0 they don't appear to be included in the Output Data folder, so my problem seems to be solved behind the scenes. I'm mainly concerned with the size of my output files, not the number of ...

Re: Internal Text Editor corrupts UTF-16 TOC files

We are seeing what appears to be this problem in reverse. When new TOC files are created they are created as UTF8. When the file is opened, edited, and saved in the TOC Editor, it is saved as UTF16. It is the TOC Editor that is changing the encoding, not the Text Editor.
To prove this I did the ...

Re: Modifications to TocEntry

Hi mwmartz,
I couldn't agree more. I find that I'm using 4 different hacks in my WebHelp TOC alone - for simple stuff that should be available through the Skin Editor. I have also submitted enhancement requests to be able to configure these through the Skin Editor - or at the very least for MadCap ...

Re: WebHelp MasterPages: Not available for WebHelp target

Hi Bonnie,
I'm using 5.0 but I think it was the same for 4.x. g
Go to the Target Editor >Advanced tab.
Under Master Page there should be a list box where you can select the Master Page that you want to use for your target.

Re: Modifications to TocEntry

I see that this entry has been viewed about 20 times which must have been disappointing since there was no solution - so I thought I'd share the answer that I received from the folks in tech support - and also something else that I learned.
Tech support had this to say:
In the output/skin folder ...

Re: How can I suppress the right-click menu?

Hi folks,
Thanks for answering my question so quickly. Following Paul's suggestion I Googled for solutions and found that if you add the text
" oncontextmenu="return false;" to the body tag of the Master Page (and if you want to go the whole hog you can add it to the .htm files that control the ...

How can I suppress the right-click menu?

Hi Folks,

Change topic text size from the toolbar?

Has any one ever managed to create a WebHelp toolbar control that allows the user to change the text size of the displayed Help topic?

Modifications to TocEntry

Hi folks,
I'd like to know how to add space between the TOC Entry icons and the adjacent text in my TOC?
With the current settings the text appears too close to the icon, but I can't see anywhere to change this.
Is there a way to add padding to the icon or the text in the skin file or elsewhere?
I ...

I have looked for the enhancement in 5.0 and have not found it. I would love for someone to tell me that I'm wrong.
However, if I'm right, please add your voice to mine. The number of my enhancement request is "Case 9461"
Hope that helps.

Re: Flare v5 - Preview failure...?

I know that I've said this before, but I'll say it again on this thread - and call me a whiner if you will...
If MadCap is not going to provide a UI that allows the user to configure all aspects of the Skin, then they should provide an SDK for those of us who want to go beyond the basics.
Is this an ...

Re: Flare v5 - Preview failure...?

Hi,
Yes, as dg said, removing the " " from the label field fixed the problem for me. The only issue I have is that I hadn't entered those characters in the label field to begin with. I checked in the 4.2 version of my project and they were there as well, but not causing any problems - so I guess the ...

C# Header file - can Flare create one for export?

Hi All,
I have been specifically asked by our engineers if there is any way for me to export a header file in C# format (.cs extension). This is not an option from the Export header File dialog in 4.2 or 5.0, but I was wondering if anyone had come up with a workaround?
Thanks,

I opened a bug because I got the same error when I tried to preview or generate WebHelp as well. In my case I was using multiple instances of "Separator" in my toolbar to space out my icons.
When I removed all instances of "Separator" from the toolbar, I could generate and preview without the error ...

The KB article worked beautifully for 4.x, but as I try to bring my WebHelp skin into the 5.0 world it does not appear to work when I modify the same .js file.

Re: Possible to create modular help "plug-ins" with WebHelp?

You asked: If we generate a main help system that includes TOC links to other projects (the modules ...
