We use a separate project (called StyleMaster) to hold all of our commonly-used files: Condition tags, page layouts, variables, etc. (Not sure if that is what you meant by a global product.)
Everything in StyleMaster has a Stylemaster condition. When files are imported by other projects, they come ...

What controls sort order in new topic stylesheet list?
In the Add new topic dialog box, there is a Stylesheet: list box. When neither the target nor the project have a style sheet selected, the box has a list of available stylesheets the writer can select.

In our project the list does not have ...

Re: Flare projects freeze just after startup
Thanks, Lisa. I will try that. However I checked my Analyzer set up in another project, and all the options were cleared, so probably it is not the problem.

Flare projects freeze just after startup
I'm having a problem when I open Flare projects. The projects appear to start just fine, but about the time the Pending Check-in list starts loading, everything hangs. I can't even move the window or resize a pane. Windows Task Manager says it is running, but even after hours, the project doesn't ...

Unresolved link to file in Word output
We have a build that we create in PDF and in Microsoft Word.
When we ran them yesterday, we think all but one of the xrefs worked in both outputs.
The xrefs still work in PDF.
Many of the xrefs no longer work in Word, but not all of them fail.

Merging and managing indexes
We have several projects which we merge to create a single webhelp site. We use the import function to keep variables in sync throughout all the projects, so that whichever project you are in, you can count on the same variables being available. Is there any way to do something similar with indexes ...

Re: Report delay for database refresh is too long.
I did delete the Analyzer folder and that helped. It took only 25 minutes this time. We do have a large project. Thanks for your idea.

Report delay for database refresh is too long.
When I try to run a report (in this case, to view used condition tags), I get the error message that has the banner "Waiting for database refresh". So far the report has been waiting for db refresh at least 45 minutes. Has anyone else run into this? Is there a solution or a workaround? I have ...

Re: Multiple VSS Errors with Flare 6
Thanks for your response. We have our TFS access set to Edit and so that only one person at a time can edit, which is the default.
In spite of that, I verified last night that in both Flare and Microsoft VS Source Explorer, another writer and I had the same files checked out.

Re: Handling X-refs with multiple projects and output types
Thanks for your questions.
1. Final output text varies depending on output type (print or screen) , but ideally, clicking on a word would open the xref'd topic.
The cross-reference will look like this for Print (PDF, mostly):
For more information, see "Topic A" on page 42.
and like this for ...

Re: Error importing from Source Control (TFS)
Solution -- or at least part of one:
Despite the number of times I deleted the local version of my project, TFS was still showing local mapping and a prj file. When I looked at the prj file, this phrase had the wrong root. It showed:

Handling X-refs with multiple projects and output types
We have three separate but related projects. One of the output types is Webhelp: for that output we output all the projects in one Webhelp build using global linking. We also output two of the projects as separate CHM files; and one of the projects is split up and output as separate manuals ...

Error importing from Source Control (TFS)
I have a number of projects set up in source control using TFS that are working just fine. I want to add one, using File/Import Project/Import from Source Control. The files are on TFS and in use by other members of the project. When I try to do the import, I get this error message:

Improving Webhelp Search Function

We had what appears to be the same problem. For us the solution was a correction to the CSS:
Remove the setting 'margin: 0pt;' in the <ol> tag.

Re: Searching for partial string in generated (Web)Help
We have found that using quotes does not help in searching for a phrase. Here are three results when searching in WebHelp for a phrase "install, configure" which I know is present:
If I put in "install, configure" , I get (No topics found).
If I put in install, configure with no quotes, I get a ...

Re: Who is using Xedit? and other questions...
Ditto on all reasons for not using XEdit. We are using primarily editable PDFs and Word docs for technical reviews.
The other issue our technical review personnel has is that they have to load and learn another piece of software. They won't do that unless we can sell them on the benefits of it ...
