Re: Help finding error in a CSH call
Does anyone know if any of the 2018 releases fix this problem? I still have a copy of ver. 10, so am able to produce HTML5 CSH help. Perhaps there are just not that many of us working with HTML5 CSH to prompt them to fix this issue? It's been going on a long time.

Page number to left in PDF TOC?
Has anyone built a TOC for PDFs in Flare where the page number is on the left and the description is on the right? Our corporate UX team would like to see the page number on the left rather than on the right in TOCs for documentation. Is there a way to do this using the CSS? I tried using the left p...

Does anybody know if ver. 17 R2 or R3 fixes this problem? I am still using version 10 to create CSH help.

Re: Help needed with page breaks
Have you checked to see how your page layout is set for the TOC headers? Open the TOC editor and right-click the topic and select properties:
The Break Type should be set to None if you don't want a page break.

Does anyone know if Flare 2017 solves this issue? I still have version 10 to compile CSH help. Works fine, but is a bit of a pain to remember to switch versions.AlanKearns wrote:It turns out v12 doesn't fix this bug - Support have just confirmed.

Re: Can you search for a topic if you only know its filename
The only way I know to do that within Flare is to right-click on any folder in the Content Explorer or Project Organizer and tell it to open the folder in Windows Explorer and then search. Still puts you into Windows Explorer, but you don't have to search for the folder you want. I use that a lot fo...

Re: Git integration enhancement
Good question, but the reason we would not want to do that is size, as you mentioned, and that I need to keep our product lines separate. The documentation Git repository contains three different product lines, with multiple versions of each. I've gotten very used to using the SmartGit application o...

Hope they fix it soon. We ran into it, too. Good thing I make it a habit to keep previous versions... Even better that somebody else found it first and had a workaround!AlanKearns wrote:Turns out it's a bug starting at v11, and Madcap have raised a Bug Report for me.

Re: Search freezes, search filters don't appear
Thank you for finding this! I was going to painstakingly go through the target settings for a project where Search worked compared to the project that was giving me a spinning icon instead of results. Clearing the "include server-side help engine for optimized performance" made it start wo...

Re: Field-Level Help using Flare
Why would your developers care how many files are in the help? For them, it's pretty easy - they just need to link to your main help file and include the cshid . Anything that increases the overall size of what we give to the customer gets complained about. Specifically, though, they had been deali...

Re: Field-Level Help using Flare
As far as shutting off the header in HTML5, I ran into a bug in Flare (#55794) where you can't have multiple skins for HTML5. Have you heard anything back from Madcap on this HTML5 issue? I don't think there is a way I can check on the status of a bug submitted by somebody else. I just discovered t...

Packaging HTML5 help in an MSI installer
We are converting our help from .CHM to HTML5. Our application is set up at our customers' businesses, and has both a Windows and a Web server component, so I will be creating help with and without Mark of the Web. The developers are used to packaging the single file .CHM for the Windows client, and...

Re: Has anyone migrated to the Git integration?
Nita -- Out of curiosity, do you just have one Flare project in your remote Git repository? I am not integrating Flare with Git since it wanted to make a separate repository out of each Flare project I wanted to bind (and I have about 70), but I am limited by our Git administrator to one repository....

Git integration enhancement
I have submitted a request to MadCap for an enhancement for the Flare integration with Git. After a developer and I spent time looking at how the Git integration works in Flare 11.1, we came to the conclusion that it wouldn't work for us. Documentation is assigned one repository on the remote server...

In the PDF target properties, under PDF options, there is a Navigation field in the Initial View grouping where you can select to show "Page Only."

Re: Copy an Entire Project?
To copy whole projects for a new version, I've always used the New Project Wizard and used the "New from existing" option and selected the flprj file of the project I want to copy. I don't use the bind to source option (I like to do it later), and I make sure I rename it to the next versio...

Re: Best practice when TFS server is down?
Are you the only person working on the projects? Just if you're not and there are a few of you working on it, then you can't just replace what's in TFS with your updated local copy, since you'll just overwrite each other's work. If there's a few of you working on the project, then you all really ne...

Thanks, Ramon. I was thinking along those lines myself. Luckily, I am only involved with just two projects (out of a total of 20) that will be affected by this.

Best practice when TFS server is down?
Over the weekend, our IT department unsuccessfully tried to upgrade our TFS server. It is now unavailable to me, and I am told it might be up today or three days from now. I always check in everything before I leave for the day, so I am wondering what the best practice for working locally would be, ...

Re: Flare 11 build process
I think your first issue is a general TFS issue, and not related to the Flare version. This has happened to me, and once I made sure that everything was correctly checked into TFS, I unbound the project, deleted it from my computer, and then re-imported it from source control. I think your second is...

Re: Linking to PDF files
I've done this for my WebHelp projects by creating a PDF folder in the Content Explorer of Flare. Then I opened the folder in Windows and put the necessary PDFs in the folder, and then linked them to my project. The PDFs become part of the output folder contents, and can be published like any of the...

All I know is if I generate it in V10 it doesn't do it. If I generate it in V11, it does. I am having the same difficulty. Old images appear in V11; but not in V9 or v10. I'm planning on deleting the props files, since I am now using SnagIt instead. I also had a problem with "Object reference ...
