Poor quality conversion of .svg to .png using OpenJDK
My IT department required that I change from Oracle Java to the OpenJDK because of Oracle’s licensing changes. This change has created a problem in HTML output with .svg images that have a thumbnail class applied. The .svg files look fine when the thumbnail is expanded to full size (when you're ...

Re: Managing conditions in Lingo
According to tech support, Lingo can exclude annotations. That's what they told me to use, but that won't work in my case because some of my conditions are necessary output - just not necessary for translation.

Here was the vendor's response.

Managing conditions in Lingo
How do you manage conditions in Lingo? I want our vendor to translate only content that meets certain conditions and skip content that meets other conditions. I'm not seeing any way of displaying the conditions applied to content from within Lingo. The Lingo help only mentions conditions shown in ...

Re: Localizing screenshots / screen captures w/Lingo
I've just started my first localization project. I wasn't planning on using Lingo, although that may be changing. Here is the process that I'm using currently, although I have no clue if it is right or ideal.

Simplified Chinese
Which language in the target language options equates to Simplified Chinese? I see Chinese (China) and Chinese (Taiwan) are both listed as having Localized Skins. Hong Kong, Macau, and Singapore are not noted as having a localized skin. This is in Flare 9.1.1. I'm hoping either China or Taiwan is ...

Re: WebHelp not displaying in Chrome
We saw the Chrome issue too, and the 9.1.2 update fixed it, but it has broken our context-sensitivity within our application. When you press F1 in the application, the help shows up blank, basically like it did in Chrome before the Flare 9.1.2 update. I still need to gather some particulars about ...

Re: HTML5 search - bug or inferior design to WebHelp
Thanks Lisa. I'm not giving two different outputs to the end user, but the issue and resolution will determine which output I go with. I like the format of the search better in HTML5, rather than the accordian style in WebHelp, but if I can't get reliable search results, then it won't pass QA. IIS ...

HTML5 search - bug or inferior design to WebHelp
The Flare help indicates that "Each of Flare's online outputs calculates search results in a different way. Therefore, it's possible that each output format may give different results. " I find that description disappointing. As a user, I expect two outputs of the exact same content to return the ...

I can't speak for the original poster who asked, but we do distribute both HTML and PDF. Based on our user need to cover disaster recovery objectives, we have to provide both.

Re: Print all ability from HTML5 output
RamonS, you asked about the rationale for printing the entire help. Our customers have to do that to meet disaster recovery objectives. If their server goes up in flames, so too does the online version of the documentation installed on the server. Alas, they could get it from our web site, but many ...

Has anyone figured out why this happens? I'm seeing this same issue with the HTML5 output, but not with the WebHelp output.

HTML5: MarkAsNewIcon set to None causes error
For the HMTL5 output, has anyone tried setting the MarkAsNewIcon (under Navigation Panel, TOC, Icons) to None? If I set it to any graphic, it works. If I set it to None, I get the error "Object not set to an instance of an object." I get that error both when previewing the Skin and when building. I ...

Re: intermittent Flare 9 lockups
I found a topic that I could duplicate the lockups on. It's a very long topic (2229 lines in the text editor). The topic is a list of info/warning/error messages and associated message info (IDs, message level, what to do if you get it, etc.). It also has conditional text in the topic because some ...

I've only seen the lockups when scrolling in the XML editor. I haven't seen it scrolling in the text editor, although I've only used that minimally to check out the new functionality.
I haven't had any lockups in any other pane - Content Explorer or Index or anything like that.

intermittent Flare 9 lockups
Has anyone experienced intermittent lockups with Flare 9? After just a couple of days with the new version, I've had at least a dozen lockups. Once it locks up, I have to end the Flare process through the Task Manager. I haven't reported it to tech support yet because I can't narrow down what is ...

Re: MadCapAll.js and MadCapBodyEnd.js Errors
I don't think it is an odd use case for Flare at all. In fact, I told Mike Hamilton about that exact use case (standalone HTML file for release notes) at a seminar once and he seemed intrigued and admitted it was something he had personally never considered. I followed up after the seminar as he ...

It seems like other apps must be redrawing the screen more efficiently than Flare.
When I'm traveling, I have no choice but to use remote desktop. Lucky for me, I'll be getting a laptop this budget year.

Re: Flare is slow when remoting
I see the slowdown too when I have to remote, even with the bare mimimums remoted. It is somehow related to the way they load the interface. For example, I can literally see pages refreshing from top to bottom in Flare, but I don't see that in any other application.

Re: Limited Conditional Control in Flare
It sounds like the amount of common text versus conditionalized text is your challenge, not a Flare issue. I have many topics where every bit of content is conditionalized - no common content at all. And that's with 27 different conditions currently. I'll be adding another one in the next month and ...
