This problem has been solved. It seems to be behaviour outside of Flare causing the slowness. Two colleagues (developers not using Flare) found that they had check-out performance troubles as well. One found out about the following workaround:

Slow Check-out in Flare 6.1
Since upgrading to Flare 6.1 (coming from 6.0) I experience slow performance when checking out files from Flare. This is the case for checking out manually or by saving a file which automatically will check out the file (if not checked out yet).

Re: TFS: problems after working offline
I replied too fast - that filter option exists: tfpt online accepts the parameter /exlude:filespec[...] which should do the trick. And there is even an environment variable that can be used TFPT_ONLINE_EXCLUDE.

Re: TFS: problems after working offline
Hi Steve,
thanks a lot for your reply and sorry for being sooo late in responding.
I found the tfpt online command and yes, this will find a lot of changes. For now a bit too much. When comparing folders in TFS I can set a filter and exclude irrelevant folders. I haven't found that kind of option ...

Re: Skin caption is overwritten by language skin
This sounds like Article #:OUTH1005-F which can be found in the MadCap knowledge base (http://kb.madcapsoftware.com/). Basically it seems to be a limitation of the HTML viewer. The article is old, but I still see this behavior in my output.

Re: GPL with different source and destination folders?
Paul,
I was looking into the same thing. At least to be able to change the destination folder for an imported file.
Have you entered an enhancement request? I will be happy to send a note to MadCap to support that enhancement. I guess the more supporters the more likely it will be implemented ...

Re: Questions for a Mobile Target? Asking for input...
Hi Rob,
we are looking into using Flare output for help on mobile devices. To answer your questions:
1) All devices with Windows Mobile 5 or higher
2) Internet Explorer, Opera
3) Onto the device itself
4) no recommendation
If you'd need further detail, please let me know. I'm the technical writer ...

TFS: problems after working offline
I'm working on a laptop. In the office with direct access to TFS, source control works beautifully.
When working from home I have no access to the source control server. Flare correctly reminds me about that and I can work on my project offline.
Then back in the office (having direct access to TFS ...

Re: Footnote formatting for glossary terms not working in Word
Hi Dave,
just came across this one today. Lately I had troubles with footnotes in Word, but in a different context. My pop-up and expanding text is set to be converted to footnotes in Word output. It would always show as Times New Roman (my normal.dot setting, I think). I got the info from support ...
