Re: Find topics set to non-searchable

I don't know about a report, but you can do the following: 1. Open the File List view (View > File List). 2. Sort the name column and then find the topics that start with d_ (or use the Filter at the top of the tab to filter the list down). 3. Look at the Searchable column to see if it is True or Fa...

Re: Search on a subset of topics automatically

1. You're right -- it doesn't. I was confused for silly reasons. 2. This resolves the issue where the search filter drop-down is left open in the top search bar. It still sets the search filter for both search bars, but it looks like they just can't be set independently -- if you manually change one...

Re: Search on a subset of topics automatically

Thanks Dave. That works, but there are two issues: 1. The presence of this script on the search page seems to interrupt other scripts that are in the master page (these scripts do things like create an in-page TOC and set a Home link in the breadcrumb). I could set up the search page to use a differ...

Search on a subset of topics automatically

Here's what I want to do: * Flag a subset of topics in my help file with a specific concept tag. * Create a page in the help with a Search bar that automatically searches only the topics with that concept tag (using search filters). I can flag the topics and create the page, but what I'm stumbling o...

Re: Need help with "Exclude content not linked directly..."

Huh. There were links in the Home page, so I always expected a handful of additional topics to be included. But I guess those linked topics linked to other topics, that linked to other topics, and so on, so that a significant proportion of the original topic set was still getting included. Because n...

Need help with "Exclude content not linked directly..."

I have a very large help project, so I want to set up a slimmed-down build that I can use while testing formatting changes and such. I created a TOC with one topic, and then set up a target that uses "Exclude content not linked directly or indirectly from the target." But there is no diffe...

Re: Linking to TOC subheads jumps browser to top of page ins

I reported this behavior to MadCap and they logged bug 145810.
For me, reverting back to Flare 2018 (not r2) resolved the issue. YMMV.

***
I should clarify, for me the issue occurred with cross-references in topics, to bookmarks within other topics. Not from the TOC.

Re: Is there a way to exclude a file from re-importing?

And you have reminded me of the importance of being specific! I was mostly thinking of image files. Like, they could replace an imported image file with one of the same name, and then the imported topic that references the image still works and is unchanged, but then they have to remember not to re-...

Is there a way to exclude a file from re-importing?

Say you run a Flare import to import some files from a source Flare target. And let's say one of the files you want to control locally instead of re-importing. Is there something that you can do in the target system to automatically keep that file from re-importing, as opposed to having to remember ...

EDIT: Duh, I had forgotten to reference the script in the brand new project. After fixing that, it works (fades in). That's not the case in my help project though, so I guess I have done something to my project that makes this not work. Hmm. ______________________________________________ FWIW: I tri...

Re: Side Nav: Long TOC items run into toggle icon

I ended up submitting the issue to MadCap Support and it appears to be due to assigning an alternate skin to an alias. This is causing some styles from the alternate skin to affect the regular output. If I remove the skin assignment from the alias, it works fine. Awaiting a resolution (which will pr...

Side Nav: Long TOC items run into toggle icon

I've noticed that long items in the side navigation TOC sometimes run into the toggle icon. For example: temp.png This particular example is not ideal, but I could live with it. However, sometimes the text actually runs into (under) the toggle which looks bad and obscures some of the text. It seemed...

Sigh...and I just found the answer.
Enable "When merging, replace node with merged TOC" on Advanced tab of TOC item properties.

Time to go home for the day!

Linking a TOC entry to another TOC

I want to split my TOC into a bunch of smaller TOCs, so that the smaller TOCs can be reused. Let's say that one of these smaller TOCs is for Cats and it goes something like this: Cats ---Siamese ---Persian ---Etc. (the dashes are to indicate indents, looks like it's not keeping my spaces) In my mast...

Re: NEWBIE questions - condition tags...

BTW, you don't have to include a condition in order to include the content. By default, all conditions are included unless they are excluded. You only need to explicitly include for situations like you have described, where you have tagged the same content with 2 tags, and one of the tags is exclude...

Re: Bookmarks in same topic in Side Nav scroll too far

In case anyone stumbles upon this, the issue was a setting in the SideNav skin. If Fixed Header is set to All, bookmarks work fine. If it is set to Web, bookmarks scroll too far. This has been submitted to MadCap.

Bookmarks in same topic in Side Nav scroll too far

When using the new Side Nav skin, if I have a bookmark to another place in the same topic, clicking the link goes to the right place but it is scrolled past the actual bookmark. Like if the bookmark is on a header, clicking the link goes to the first sentence after the header, and you have to scroll...

Need help with CSS and styling a links

In my stylesheet I have the base a, a:link, etc. classes. Then I have complex selectors of div.pagetoc a, a:link, etc. to style the links a certain way when they are within this div, because the div has a background color so the links need to be white and so on. My problem is that all links are taki...

This is a setting on the Menu Proxy in the master page. Right-click the proxy to edit it and disable Context Sensitive. You may find that you get what you want but you won't really like the result. (At least, that's what I found.) You might also experiment with the other settings, depending on the e...
