Re: Flare 9 HTML5 and TocPath in page links

If wonder if that was added as a way to address the problem with the TOC sync feature not working properly in HTML5 output in v8? Maybe so. I skimmed through the v9 new features and the bug fixes and didn't find anything that explained this change, but that sounds like it could have been the reason.

Flare 9 HTML5 and TocPath in page links

I've noticed that HTML5 output in Flare 9 has longer page links due to the inclusion of "TocPath" and a number. For an example, this is a link copied from the TOC of the MadCap forums, which appear to have been built with v9: http://kb.madcapsoftware.com/#Flare/TOC/TOC1001_-_Emulating_the_...

Re: HTML5 search highlighter

I'd add the space in the skin (as I mentioned): > Or, you could change the Search input's placeholder text in your skin. Sure, you can also change it after publishing if you want to do it every time. I like the idea of changing Flare's default value if you have a lot of projects. As far as preventi...

Re: Favorite Flare 8 features

Similar to you, I also need Default_CSH.htm to remain in the deployment directory, because without it, the HTML5 build target breaks our existing CSH calls. So I'm looking for ways to work around that problem. Just set the Output File in the target to be Default_CSH ; then you'll just have one file...

Re: Favorite Flare 8 features

Well, I installed Flare 8 about 15 minutes ago, so the jury's still out  but I think I'm going to like the HTML5 help. Currently, I use WebHelp, and have a li'l hunk of Javascript in my master page to display the "actual" frames-based topic URL, so that it can be grabbed and emailed...

Re: Madcap uploading unchanged articles

A patch is available that fixes this issue for Flare v7.1. It did the trick for me. http://kb.madcapsoftware.com/Content/Flare/Patches/Flare_7/PATF71-_Flare_7_FTP_Publish.htm MadCap did a good job of promptly fixing this issue. After issuing the the standalone patch for v7.1, they included a fix fo...

Re: Google Analytics Search

Hello, We run Google Analytics on our webhelp and it's very useful. I'd like to run the Site Search query but do not know what the query parameter is that I need from Flare to give to Google in order to track this. Does anyone know? sitesearch.png Many thanks, Paula Giving this post a bump in case ...

Re: Optimizing PDFs created with version 6

Bob, Thanks for the suggestion. I tried a number of different settings with Flare's image comprression, and was able to get close to the size of the v5 PDF, but still a MB or so larger. That was when sticking to the "medium" image quality. Switching to JPEG compression, low quality, for im...

Optimizing PDFs created with version 6

One of the enhancements enabled by a new PDF engine in version 6 was "File size smaller (up to half the previous size)." I am seeing significantly smaller PDFs with version 6 when compared to version 5, but when I use the PDF Optimizer feature in Acrobat Pro 9 as a post-processing step to ...

550 error when publishing WebHelp target to FTP - workaround

I'm using Flare 5.0 and needing to publish a WebHelp target to an FTP server. The port for the FTP server needs to be something other than the default port of 21, which in our case is already taken. I was able to publish when port 21 was set up in the Destination, but not when using other values. Th...
