Re: You and Your - how to stop technical authors using these!
Pls. excuse a late comment.... Great discussion here, and I agree with Nita -- IMHO, there is nothing wrong with using "you" and "your" appropriately in user documentation. After all, you want to speak to the user, don't you? I think it gives a friendlier aura to the doc. Some of...

Re: Upgrade Woes
If the images have gone from 6 inches to 2 inchies I would guess they have been resampled to 300dpi somewhere along the line. Now you have to find where! Thanks, SteveS - makes sense! It could be in Corel or Flare. Now that I think more about this, I have seen this happen once in a while even w/ Fl...

Re: Upgrade Woes
Hi everyone, I am building a not-too-big project with .chm and .pdf targets in Flare 7. I just got 4 new screencaps (nice size, clear TIFF files) from a co-worker, brought them into Corel Photo, cropped them and saved them as PNGs. Now, they look fine in the .chm output, but they are less than 1/2 t...

Re: Word build error after upgrade to Flare 7
This is weird! I just did a Word build in Flare 7 for the first time, and it failed with "Internal error: URL not a local file." That's really helpful!! Never saw that one with Flare 6. :( (....or Flare 5 for that matter...) It isn't critical for me to do this Word build. The reviewer can ...

Re: Search Feature in Flare?
Or use a different find-and-replace program. Others have recommend a program called FAR HTML (?) that I assume can search through the glossary and other files. Yes, Far HTML is an excellent, very fast search application. You should be able to have it search either the entire Flare Project folder or...

Re: Using Flare to produce a printed manual
I use a PDF output as the only user documentation format for the main software product I support, and it has worked fine so far. It's a simple layout, which essentially lists all the project topics without page breaks between them. The TOC (organized very much like the pre-Flare Word user guides for...

Re: Typing French and Spanish accents - how?
Hello, For occasional use of special characters, adding to what Dave Lee suggested, you can do many of them using the ANSI character set: This link takes you to a page on the IBM Web site, where they have reproduced the list: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21089251 With num lock on...

Re: Conditions tags
Laura - thanks for your clarification re. tagging topics vs. TOC entries. I thought that even if you tagged topic folders, all the contents were supposed to "inherit the tag." No such luck, I guess! In any case, I tag topics, and I have gotten used to tagging each one individually. In the ...

Re: Best Practices - Copying Projects for New Versions
Cheryl, If I am doing a version update for one of my products, I create a zip of the finished version and archive the project for that version, marked as "FINAL." Then, I continue using the same project and revise it for the next version -- no copying needed. If I start a brand-new project...

Re: File tagging?
Margaret, I think you put it very well when you said: "With file tags I like the fact that I can keep my project management and my conditioned output separate." I feel just the same way, but I'd still like to be able to add individual text to individual file tags. :? However, I realize tha...

Re: File tagging?
Laura - to clarify my earlier reply, I'm using File Tagging within Flare V6.1, and I was just using it on the project I mentioned to track the status of various topics - for example: Draft. Review, Complete, etc. I was the only author on this project. You can do reports from Flare, but I prefer to d...

Re: File tagging?
Hi - I used File Tags for one large project and found them helpful. I would find them more helpful with an additional feature. When you open the file tag for a particular topic, there's no way to add a comment or note that would apply only to that topic. I've suggested this to Madcap as an enhanceme...

Re: Multiple TOCs Vs Conditional Tags
I prefer to do a separate TOC for each target. In one project, we have basic user, advanced user, and admin guides - all PDFs. With very few exceptions, there is a different set of topics in each guide, so I had to check very carefully to make sure that each TOC included the right topics. I do the o...

Re: Graphics not displaying in Word output
Nita, I'm going to do your "visit the last page of a long Word doc before embedding links" trick - just in case. I'm not sure why it should be needed, since I was told to first do Edit - Select All, then do Cntrl + Shift + F9. It's too bad that you can't do this in the props of the Word ta...

First experience running Analyzer
Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to Flare (just a few mos. experience) and Analyzer, so pls. excuse a very basic question. I just ran a build of a project of maybe 110 topics; corrected a few hyperlink errors and everything is fine. So.............when I tried running Analyzer for the first time, it found ...
