Writing question: What is "q.v."?
Hello all you writer types,
This has nothing to do with Madcap or Flare, only our craft, so I'm turning to this sage community for your advice.
I have an insertion of "q.v." several times in one of my legacy documents and don't know what it means. Internet dictionaries say it means "which see ...

Re: Blur effect change unused?
Rob in support pointed out that I could add the rectangle to the palette and it would retain the settings. That's sure easy! The palette is a very nice tool.

Re: Search phrases vs. individual terms?
Yeah, I think you're right. This one came up because "Content" occurs very often in the Help, so there are a lot of hits before it gets to Content Analytics, but my UI person said she wouldn't change the search because most people understand about quotes and Booleans. I've added a bit to the About ...

Re: Blur effect change unused?
Hmm, I don't see anything in Flare v5 about re-applying the blur effect. I do see blur effects in Capture v5 and have updated the Profile in the View>Profiles>Image Effects>Blur Factor field. However, those settings do not get used in new rectangles I add. I still have to double-click the rectangle ...

Blur effect change unused?
I use the Blur-Inside effect a lot, since all my screen caps have customer naming on them. I changed my one profile to set the blur factor from 6 to 20, but for some reason that factor does not get assigned to the properties of a new rectangle with Blur-inside assigned. Have I got the right setting ...

Search phrases vs. individual terms?
I'm wondering whether it is possible to search on the phrase a user types in the Search field in WebHelp as the default, instead of individual terms? I see that I can put quotes around my phrase and have that exclude the topics that rank highly for either term, but users generally aren't used to ...

I do use Firefox, but thanks for that tip in the other browsers, too, Andrew. Dave Lee's tool is pretty slick. And thanks for the guidance on the other question, too, Lisa! Two answers in one!

Forum search guide?
Is there a guide to how to use this Forum, or more specifically the search? Why does it ignore terms I use in my search? For example, just now I tried "Forum Search" and it gave me only results that include "forum", ignoring "search." Why is that?

Xrefs/Hyperlinks within Glossary?
I imported a large glossary and reformatted it to work within Flare, so that's all fine. However, there are a good number of "See (similar term)" within this glossary, which I'd like to hyperlink. How do I do that?
For example, the definition for "Hostname" is "See Domain name". How do I mark ...

Re: Capture Callouts Display Incorrectly in Flare
D, I had this same issue and was told it was a bug. I'm using rectangles with borders, while you're not, but for some reason the generated version of the callout does not observe the edges of the container. So, I'm putting in hard returns to keep the text within the box. You might try making your ...

Re: customizing WebHelp skin
Has anyone tried this in 5.0? I made the suggested changes to the TOC and Index files from the KB article - this worked in 4.2. I made the exact same change in the files in 5.0, and it seems to have no effect on the output.

Re: X-Edit setup could be improved for reviewers
I've logged the need for revision marks and/or a Compare function as a feature request and expect others have done so too.
I second this one. Some of my reviewers write quite well so I'm happy to let them do it and reduce the amount of time required from both of us, but I have to compare the ...

Re: Removing unused styles from style window
HI Dave,
I disabled a lot of styles, but they still show up when I right-click on the block or when I click the drop-down to assign a style to that <p>. So, I have to use the drop down and scroll down the entire list on every paragraph and I've got hundreds in these imported files to assign. What's ...

Re: Possible to import Word glossary into Flare glossary?
You could save your word doc as text and add those tags manually, or use any number of different tools or search/replace algorithms. We use Frame to add structure to our .fm framemaker glossary file (using a conversion table), then save as XML which works quite nicely.
HI Greg,
I need to ...
