Integrating Mimic Output with an LMS (SCORM)
Our team is currently using Adobe Captivate to create training courses. These courses include a quiz at the end. If users pass the quiz, they receive credit for taking the course. We integrate these courses into an LMS. I know MadCap Mimic is not SCORM compliant out of hte box, but has anyone found ...

Footnote number format in HTML5 outputs
Is there a way to change the footnote number format in HTML5 outputs? When I specify a value in the mc-footnote-format property for the MadCap|footnote style (e.g., {A}), the footnote number format changes in the Flare UI and in PDF outputs but not in HTML5 outputs.

Re: Forcing a paragraph to the next right page in Word outputs
This is what we do for most outputs, but I need to provide a Word output to our translators for RTL languages and need to make it look as close as possible to our direct-to-PDF outputs.

Re: Forcing a paragraph to the next right page in Word outputs
This works, but the chapters always start on the next page regardless of whether that page is left or right. According to the Flare Help, the empty page layout type isn't supported by Word. I guess this means it's possible to have a different layout for the first page of each chapter or have each ch...

Re: Forcing a paragraph to the next right page in Word outputs
Thanks Laura. This works, but is there a way to use one page layout for the first right page in a chapter and then use another page layout for subsequent right pages?

Forcing a paragraph to the next right page in Word outputs
Is there a way to force a paragraph to the next right page in Word outputs? I've tried using page layouts and the page-break-before: right style attribute, but neither seem to work.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Flagging Content to Not Translate
We've recently begun using Lingo in my company. We were wondering if there is a way for writers working in Flare to flag content that should not be translated in a way that a Lingo user can easily identify that content and exclude it during extraction. In particular, we were thinking of using a spec...

Re: Convert All Variables to Text
Thanks Jennifer. We've discussed this with our translators and come to a mutual understanding that will allow us to continue to use variables. That said, we have run into a minor issue with East Asian languages and variables. Specifically, when we receive content back from the translators, there are...

Re: Convert All Variables to Text
This was a request from our translation manager. The vendor is having some difficulties with variables and the manager was wondering if this would be a potential solution to these problems.

Re: Long table forcing page break
Hi David, I've experienced this problem as well. It seems to occur whenever the paragraph immediately before the table is either a heading (H1, H2, etc.) or paragraph set up in the CSS file to keep with the next paragraph (i.e., "page-break-after: avoid;"). Changing the CSS properties of t...

Re: Flagging conditional text in outputs
Thanks ChoccieMuffin, Dave. I've submitted a feature request. BTW, I experimented with the solution ChoccieMuffin suggested. It works if you make content conditional at the character level but not if you make it conditional at other levels (paragraph, topic, etc.). In addition, I was only able to sh...

Flagging conditional text in outputs
Is there any way to flag conditional text (by highlighting it, underlining it, etc.) in final outputs? This would be particularly useful for troubleshooting issues with conditional text in the final proofing stage of a project.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Pictures appear as gray boxes when printed or saved to PDF
When I print a topic or save it as PDF, all pictures in the topic appear as gray boxes. This happens in all X-Edit versions and for all file types (mcdoc, mcco, fltrev). Is this the standard behavior? Is there a workaround?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Adding a Language to the Language Skins Dialog Box
We need to translate Help into a language not listed in the Language Skins dialog box. I've stumbled upon a way to add a language to the dialog box and then create a custom language skin for it but wanted to verify that this is the best way to do this and there are no potential pitfalls: 1. In Windo...

Re: Including headings in mini-TOCs but not in the main TOC
After some tinkering, I found a way to remove heading levels from the main TOC while keeping them in the chapter-level mini TOCs. I added the following CSS code to the MadCapBlaze.css file (under %Program Files%\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare V5\Flare.app\Resources\BlazeTargetCompiler): table.GenTOCTa...

Thanks Greg.
I tried setting the p.TOCx tags to "display: none" in the CSS, but they continued to appear in the main TOC.

Including headings in mini-TOCs but not in the main TOC
In PDF output, is there any way to include a heading level in the mini-TOCs but exclude (or hide) it in the main TOC? The reason I ask is that I would like to create a document with an abbreviated main TOC (containing one or two heading levels) and detailed TOCs at the beginning of each chapter (con...

Re: Embedding CSS in HTML Files
Thanks Carolyn.
The reason I asked about this is that I'm working on a project that includes, among other items, an e-mail newsletter. One of the requirements for the e-mail newsletter is embedded CSS. I'm thinking of using Flare for this project and wanted to verify that it can support this.

Embedding CSS in HTML Files
Is there a way in Flare to "embed" the CSS code in an HTML file rather than referring to it in a separate file? By "embed", I mean something like this: <head> ... <style> body { font-family: Arial; } h1 { font-weight: bold; font-size: 24.0pt; } ... </style> ... </head> Rather tha...

Our legal department would like us to mark the first occurrence (but only the first occurrence) of each trademarked term with a TM or (R) symbol in our printed documentation. Does anyone know of a way to do this automatically in Flare?
