We use TortoiseSVN and have not bound Flare to SVN.
We have always used different branches for different versions of our set of Help files, and the working copies of these different versions are in separate folders on the local computers. This has worked fine, but admittedly, there is a lot of disk ...

Thanks for your replies, everyone.
I conclude that to replace code, you must use third-party tools.

Wildcards and regular expressions support in Flare 7
Flare claims to support regular expressions, however I find the documentation more than inadequate:

I recommend to make sure you have covered the basics:
All topics open in the XML editor, i.e. their XML is valid.
Your TOC is set up correctly and there are no broken links
Your stylesheet is linked to the project and there are no conflicts with the settings on the target or the topic level

I am missing this feature, too - I was looking for it when I came across this post.
I suppose at the target level with the option to overrride it at the topic level would be desirable at a minimum.

Re: Corrupt TOC and/or Conditioning
A very big table caused me problems before. I would look for unusual formatting you may be using, like special characters, huge topics or elements, etc. Remove one and see whether it's fixed. Annoying, I know - been there myself, but I guess that's software work for you.

You're not being nosy at all.
The tool is HelpStudio, it is made by a company called Innovasys.
You would set up your multi-language project by having a separate project settings sheet, separate phrases that are already localised (like 'click to shrink'), etc.

Multiple Help IDs against single topic
Our legacy HTML Help authoring tool enabled us to assign multiple Help IDs to a single topic.
As a result, we can link a number of Help buttons in different dialogues to one topic, which saves resurces.
Is that possible in Flare 6?

Thank you for your input, all.

Re: error message
Yes it does fix the strange open tab, but it is not a very graceful way of Flare telling us that the XML in that topic is not 100%, which unfortunately will be the case often when importing topics from elsewhere. I found that using the internal text editor prevents it from happening. That way, you ...

Yes, we are using a master page, and it does contain <MadCap:bodyproxy />.
When I turn off tag view, I can see the content fine.
I can also see the content in the .chm output. I haven't tried other output.

Thanks for your suggestions; they made me realise that I was missing one or two details when describing the issue.

The issue does not materialise in normal mode.

I had the same problem in Flare 6.1 under Vista, and despite all the .dll files being registered correctly already, I had to re-register itcc.dll to fix the issue.

The 'MadCap:segment' start tag.. database error
In Flare 6, the Project Analyser function, under Database Errors, shows a number of error messages that refer to the MadCap: segment tag, for example:
The 'MadCap:segment' start tag on line 4 does not match the end tag of 'p'. Line 4, position 2557.

Re: 100% CPU every word I type
Thanks for your reply.
No, the CPU usage levels stays up as long as I have Flare open - it remains high even when I close the project.
The system is generally not slow at all, it is very responsive, that's really why I am wondering what's going on.
I may log a call with Support after all.

In Flare 6, is there a way of exporting the project for translation without using MadCap Lingo? I am a very new user to Flare and we want to do it to test this process only to realise that other than Save As, there does not seem to be a function in Flare that does it. But I wonder is Save As ...
