Re: Setup Config transfer to new computer

Thanks Steve. Sorry, wrong tree :)
I use the same external monitor on both computers. Also, all of the files, including the CSS, are exact copies. So, I think it must be a difference in the Flare installation configuration or some Flare config properties that are set differently on the computers.

Setup Config transfer to new computer

After moving to a new computer, I have a problem with my Title page layout image being duplicated(tiled) and note, tip, and warning icons being to small.
At first I thought it was due to upgrading to 2023R2, but now I see that it works properly on my old computer.
Since the project files are the ...

Re: Links vs Cross-Ref

Here is the issue...hopefully explained a little clearer.
This is an email I recently sent to MadCap concerning a bug in which Flare does NOT update Xrefs at build time, in some conditions.

Main Issue: XRefs do not automatically update depending on which medium (default, Online, Print...) is ...

Re: XRef Inquiry

One thing to look out for is that Flare will not update your cross-reference automatically depending on which Medium is specified for the target, if the xref is pointing to a topic outide of the current TOC during generation. For example when you have two TOC and one only contains a subset of the ...

Re: Links vs Cross-Ref

Plus, you can't do medium-specific text changes on hrefs, like you can with xref (e.g., "see Configuring the Software" for online and "see Chapter 9" for print).

Re: Cross-refs confusion

The actual text displayed for xrefs in the editor means nothing, take it with a pinch of salt; it's just a placeholder that's substituted by the actual xref text when you build the target.

If you want to check/preview the xref links before a build, you can update the xref text in a topic (for the ...

Re: Print/Non-Print Cross-Reference help please

Be aware that there is a serious bug here that I have reported.
If your cross-reference is pointing to a topic outide of the current TOC during generation, the Xref may not be updated automatically, as the Flare documentation says it should. It all depends on whether or not your Flare XML Editor was ...

Re: Link checking...per target?

Thanks ChoccieMuffin for your tip.

I will try that. In the mean time I think we should all join i-tietz and sent this in to Madcap as an enhancement request. Flare is a great product, but this is something that I would use daily. Flare needs to be smart enough to inform us that the link, though in ...

Re: Link checking...per target?

I've used Xenu link sleuth in the past and found it fairly good.

HTH

Thanks Steve for the tip about Xenu Link Sleuth.
However, it is more of an after-the-fact tool. What we really need is for Flare to tell us when we are linking to a topic outside the currently active TOC. This way we could ...

Thanks Lisa for your help. Dumb mistake on my part, added it to the wrong media.
So, far I have found the following compatibility issues:

Displaying screen output (code) with a light gray background and monospaced.

div --PDF -Okay
--CHM -Okay
--Word -Not Supported

Word hates div -- PDF hates blockquote

I used a div to display a simulated command line screen output with a light gray backqround and monospaced font...works great in PDF and CHM

But I also need something like this in Word output, so I tried to use blockquote and set the same properties...works great in Word

PDF does not display the ...

Thanks All. Well now that that is fixed...one more.

I am using a div to display command line code (to simulate screen output)...but Word doesn't recoginize div's either. Is there another way to do this without using a div, something that will work on all targets?

Re: p.note with left image and indented text

No, there's no solution. Word doesn't support quite a few of the CSS specifications. Well, Word 2003 doesn't, and I don't recall anyone mentioning that Word 2007 was any better. No idea about Word 2010. You can submit a bug report at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx , but I'm not sure ...

Re: Image spacing within a sentence

I know I'm a bit late on this one, but this still doesn't work for me. The image just moves to the bottom while the text moves to the top of the line...So they basically just switch spots...

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Inline images will mess with the line spacing, you will probably need to ...

p.note with left image and indented text

Is there a simple way to add an image to the left of a note, without using a 2 column 1 row table. I currently have 1000s of p.notes with only a background color and top/bottom borders. I want a painless way to convert these all to No background color; add an image and top/bottom borders. I know I ...

Re: Best way to get a bulleted list into a table

Ah. Yes, I have noticed that. Not quite sure how I managed to get round it, but I feel a bug report coming on.
I think it's been less of a problem for me because the other cell in the row contains a graphic that's fairly long, so most times the cell with the graphic in is longer than the cell with ...

Re: Best way to get a bulleted list into a table

I've got quite a few table cells with bullet lists in, as well as regular paragraphs.

For example,

Paragraph text
* bullet text
* bullet text
Paragraph text

To do this, I paste my paragraph (<p.BodyText>) into the table cell, type whatever I want to type, and apply list formatting in the normal ...

What is the table property of a table/th/or td style for?

I am wondering why there is a table property (border-collapse, border-spacing...) that can be applied to a table, a th, or a td style.

Can't I set these properties directly in table style on my stylesheet?

One other question, I seem to be inheriting table borders from somewhere, though I cannot ...

Hi Steve,

I tried to reset the size, but it did not become any clearer.
In my Flare topic I have added a 400 x 400 px png image. When inserting the image, I resize it (in Flare) to 40 x 40 px.
Now, to test this I also insert the same image, without resizing it.
Then I build the Word document.

The target output quality of my note icons are degraded when targetting MS Word. However the PDF target looks fine, the same as the original. I have a few icon at around 570 x 570 px, in png format.
