Re: Font changes to bold unexpectedly
Just saw this thread and thought I would chime in... I've noticed this bug for awhile too. I actually came up with a workaround that works in some instances, but not all. (I hadn't noticed the transparency connection, so that's helpful for me!) I found that I would edit the text in a box, and then a...

Re: Target and/or MadBuild assistance please
Might I also suggest that you add a simple 3-5 letter code onto the name of the targets that you want to be ignored. For example, "DRAFT User Guide PDF.fltar". In your script, you can instruct it to do exactly what it's doing, just ignore any .fltar files that start with that code ("D...

Re: Is Flare (MadPak) the right product for my team?
I don't know too much about Author-it. I've never worked with it or files from it before... I know that all the content is stored inside of a database, not in separate HTML files like with RoboHelp and Flare. And I know that they have a Localization Management module that would probably allow you to...

Re: Is Flare (MadPak) the right product for my team?
Hello Jared! Thanks for the ping Nita :) I have indeed done localization projects in both RoboHelp and Flare, and let me just confess from the start: I did learn Flare first, so I might be a little bit biased in that regard. But I do very much prefer localizing Flare projects over RoboHelp projects....

Re: How can I find the schema used for .props files?
Hello! Nita, thanks for the ping. Honestly, I'm not sure where the schema is for the .props files, or if one even exists. The .props files don't reference an .xsd file, like the html files do. And none of the .xsd files in the Capture program files seem to have the right set of tags. When we started...

Re: localized context-sensitive page references
One more general note about skins.... What might prevent a language skin from being honored in an output is (1) a project skin, setup for a web output, that contains overriding text and (2) a stylesheet, since you can insert overriding text for various items like cross-references and breadcrumbs. Bu...

Re: localized context-sensitive page references
Hello all! Thanks, Nita, for the ping :) You are certainly on the right track. You are updating the correct language skin, and yes, language skins are honored in all outputs, including PDFs. So whoever told you that they aren't is clearly not terribly familiar with how they work. I have used the con...

Re: Chinese index sorting in PDF using Flare
Well, like I said they can't move the blue headers automatically. If those need to be rearranged, the only thing you can do at this point is manually recreate the index in a topic, and that's just a terrible task to attempt! If you want to move an index keyword to a new blue header, you can do that ...

Re: Chinese index sorting in PDF using Flare
Hello! Well there is a way to change the sort order for the index keywords, but in your screenshot it looks like you want to change the order of the "alphabetical" headers. Like in English, if you wanted to change A, B, C, D, E to A, B, E, D, C? As far as I know, there's no way to do that ...

Re: Trying to get a second quote from a non-MadTranslations LSP
Hi Trish, It's not uncommon for an LSP (even a big-time one) to be confused about Lingo, and sometimes even Flare. Flare is rapidly becoming more known in the translation industry, but Lingo is still less known. Still, the number of LSPs that are actually qualified to work with Flare is pretty small...

Re: No Project file but have xlf files for translation
I'm pretty sure you should be able to just open the XLF files in Lingo and work... that you don't have to have the liprj file. I don't know why you would be getting a lot of information that's not translatable. Some versions of Lingo include a ton of extra tags in the segments, but that's not text. ...

Re: Use Lingo even if translator uses something else?
I know I'm a little late to the ballgame here, but... SDL already has custom filters for MadCap Flare files, for use in Trados Studio 2011 (and maybe 2009). They're not automatically included, but they're available in the SDL Exchange (the translators should hopefully know what that is). I don't use...

Re: Is it possible to switch source and target language?
No, unfortunately this isn't possible in Lingo. It doesn't even have the flexibility of changing one of the languages after the project has been started (like changing EN-US to EN-UK).
It's possible that you might be able to swap source and target languages in the TM, but not in the whole project.

Re: Export to Flare not working
The Flare project that you find in the Target folder of your Lingo project folder (.liprjf) is NOT the exported Flare project. It's the working Lingo version of the Flare project where Lingo will find it's translations. It's got some junk in there you don't need in your regular Flare project. Have y...

Re: empty mrk nodes found in translated xlf from Trados 2011
Hi Jenn, Well, I've never used those specific filtetypes before, because we've made our own custom filters for Trados Studio 2011 here in my office. And I haven't received that exact error, but when working with Lingo 5, I did have problems with malformed XLIFF not importing into Lingo (with transla...

Bonjour Beatrice and thanks Nita :) Unfortunately I don't have easy, good news for you. While I've done plenty of Chinese CHMs, I haven't had to do one in Flare 9 yet. Re: How are you translating / localizing your Flare projects?
Oh I should note that if you're working with a translation agency, you should be able to just hand them your new English Flare project and they can figure out the updates. (Unless you really want them to use Lingo, that is.) If they know Flare well enough, they shouldn't have a problem figuring out ...

Re: How are you translating / localizing your Flare projects?
Hi Scotty, Figuring out the best updates process can be tricky. Here are some options: 1) With Lingo - (RamonS's link above goes into this option.) If you've already been working in Lingo with previous versions of the project, then you can make use of Lingo's Update Project feature. If you have the ...

Re: Questions about capture images and translation
I'm speculating here too, because I've never used this button, but I think the Recapture command will only work if it's done on the same computer as the original English. This is because it kind of memorizes the coordinates of the English capture, and applies that to the new capture. If you're on di...

Re: Translation of generated content
Hi amped255 and Nita, The Chapter and Page strings could be in a few places, depending on how you set up the Flare project: 1) Page Layout files - if these strings are live text in your page layouts, then those files should be translated. 2) Stylesheet - if these strings appear due to an autoformat ...

Re: Localizing Language Skins - where's the English?
I wish I could help you... I've searched in the program files before (not v9, but probably v8), and I can't ever seem to track down the full set of EN strings. I'm not sure where they're stored. I haven't checked all the possible file types yet, but the files that I could open in Notepad++ didn't ha...
