Documentation Review using DITA XML as source
hi there i used to use Flare at a previous company so I know all the goodness that it has to offer. At my current company, we dont use Flare but another DITA XML producing package. =( What we don't have, and desperately need, is some way to allow documentation reviews to be done in a collaborative w...

Re: Year Variable
there are several solutions to similar problems here, some of which are solved previously and some more recently solved with javascript. I used the Date variable on the front cover, ie Document Date: 23rd July 2011 but at the bottom of every webhelp page I also wanted the copyright that says "O...

Re: Blank Row at top of some pages
well, this is just one example. i have other pages where I have 2 paragraphs, and there is a line space between the paragraphs. ...maybe you are right and I need to setup a table bottom padding, and a paragraph bottom padding and then just remove all my <p></p> i suppose I was just hoping there was ...

Re: Blank Row at top of some pages
well, for some of my pages your thought about the padding above H1 / H2 styles etc does fit. However, I attach a few images where you can clearly see that in the flare editor there is a <p></p> after an image. I want the space, however in the printed output the page break falls before the space, so ...

Blank Row at top of some pages
In a pdf output, when my topics split across multiple pages, sometimes there is a carriage return at the top of the page before the next subheading starts. For example: Flare html topic looks like this: heading 1 blah blah blah this is the second line of heading 1. heading 2 blah blah If the page br...

"See table below" but then page break between text and table
Hello there, Whats the suggested method for keeping a leading paragraph next to the image/table without a page break being stuck inbetween? Is it a manual process to go through the text and select the paragraph properties so that a page break is avoided? or is there a clever css way of doing this wh...

Re: ERROR: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
But if whining is a relief - feel free! come on.... people are sharing their problems here in the attempt to help others out. This particular error message would be more useful if it named the file it was processing when the error occured. This would at least save a lot of time in most of the cases...

Re: Getting Started Help Needed!
many thanks for your detailed reply. That all sounds sensible and makes sense. From what I can see ; the 2nd time the customer receives the project from us they should use File->Update Project and it will manage the differences. I think the important piece of jigsaw was whether the 2 projects should...

Getting Started Help Needed!
Hello, We have produced a v1 of our user manual in Flare. Our customer wants to translate this into Spanish. However, the user manual is constantly evolving so I see this as being an iterative process. So; before we start translating I want to make sure we have the best process to work; Im however n...

that sounds ok. I would add too that during the build step (or perhaps during the analysis steps) that these watch words are flagged up as errors/warnings to aid easy check/fix.

ah ha! perfect.
thanks. this has saved a lot of complications. I thought (incorrectly) that editing the variable in each target just changed that variable globally..... durrr!

Re: manual title in xref format
hi; I completely agree with this requirement. We produce multiple document skews from the same source and each needs its own title; "Config Guide", "User Giode", "Quick Start" and "Internal Guide" Currently the only way I can achieve this is by having: "m...

Re: Autonumbering problem for webhelp vs pdf
ok; this has been a painful journey but I have finally identified the cause of the problem. Posting here incase it helps someone else in my position; turns out that my Master Page was causing the numbering to get incremented in the funny fashion; Master Page was something like this: <body> <MadCap:b...

Re: "e.g." and "i.e." failes spell check
thanks; this is non ideal as an "i" or "g" on its own should be classed as a spelling mistake. but yes; for now I see no other solution.
thanks,

Autonumbering problem for webhelp vs pdf

Re: CSH in Qt GUI
one thing perhaps worth mentioning is that displaying the webHelp in a QT WebView window although it works - seems to have a few issues. Clicking links quickly on the TOC sometimes causes the pages to display incorrectly. We havent investigated in a huge details as to where the problem is ; but mayb...

Re: CSH in Qt GUI
we are using qt 471 with flare - no problem/ you just need to construct html link with the relevant id that is tied to the csh page. (as per the flare documentation). We basically tag each ui /dialog with a #define value which we map into the help pages in flare. im not sure that we actually use the...

for what its worth; i just had this problem after doing a word import. had a page which had entire topic set with a p.NumberedItem style (which I didnt want). "e.g." and "i.e." failes spell check
We use "e.g." and "i.e." (no quotes) in our documentation. This however fails spell checking for the i and the g.
I've tried adding e.g. and i.e. to a custom dictionary but to no avail.
Is there any way around this?
cheers in advance,
peteB

Page Break when >50% of page blank?
I would like all my H2 print form paragraphs to have a page break before - unless doing so would leave more than say 50% of a blank page on the previous page. Basically, I want to avoid having a H2 heading towards the very bottom of a page; if its above "the fold" then Im happy for it to s...
