Re: SiteMap question
My concern is that the sitemap includes every file in the output, including images and style sheets. Currently about 30% of the content is not ideal for the sitemap created by the HTML 5 target. Is there any way to customize the sitemap so that it only includes what you want index, or to have it ju...

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
Further question - Has anyone used the Next/Previous buttons in the Top Navigation Advanced output? I'm trying to use that one but the buttons aren't showing up in my topic toolbar. Nevermind. I found it buried here: http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare11/Content/Introduction_Topics/Flare/Whats_...

Re: WebHelp and Search Engine Optimization
Everybody interested in SEO for Flare needs to check out the Top Navigation outputs in Flare 11. They do not use the Frame. And it appears the template they provide uses Foundation Framework. Head over to the Building Blocks section to see what's possible there.

Re: How have they done it? Big search bar & drop-down menus
I think you owe it to yourself to check out Flare 11. I'm really happy with how they've enabled a truly frameless output. You can use the Top Navigation output to make your dropdowns.

Re: Updating Flarestrap for SEO. Taking feature requests.
Hi everyone. I wrote an update about this on the Flarestrap site . Basically, the Top Navigation targets in Flare 11 look really promising for SEO. So I'm putting my Flarestrap update on hold while I spend some time testing out Flare 11. The main benefit I see so far about Flare 11 - outside of the ...

Re: Updating Flarestrap for SEO. Taking feature requests.
I think you should take a look at Flare v11, as it supports a single-page output now; making all this sort of stuff a lot easier in Flare. There's a 'top navigation' skin (see Flare's help as an example), and perhaps more interesting are the skin proxies which allow you choose where in your page to...

Thanks for your interest! The TOC issue is certainly a part I want to accommodate.joy wrote:Are you still planning an update? If so, do you have a rough timeline?
Currently, my goal is sometime in Q2 2015. I'm pretty swamped with new content right now, so I haven't had much time for development.

Dave and Dotela, thank you so much for the input ... and the links. I'll certainly look into this. I've never done anything with XLST, but, with Dave's article as a guide, I may be able to pull something together.

Re: Moving to HTTPS from HTTP for Flare project - any troubles?
In that screenshot, you've got File Types set to Topics - so it'll only search topics. Also Find in Source code needs to be ticked. True, but in Flare 8 my only two options are "Topics" and "CSS". No way to select snippets, masterpages, or other items. Just to ask, why do you ha...

Stay Tuned for the Next Post, in Which We Test the Find/Replace Function The next step is to do sitewide find/replace to turn http ://www.mysite.com into https ://www.mysite.com So this is the next post. After quite a few slow builds, I decided to "hard code" HTTPS into the urls. Turns ou...

Re: Moving to HTTPS from HTTP for Flare project - any troubles?
I think Flare 10 provides that. On the target Warnings tab there's a checkbox for "Use target build warnings instead of global settings" or you can set it for all projects on the current computer in File | Options | Build. I'll have to look into that ... still on Flare 8. When it comes to...

Re: Moving to HTTPS from HTTP for Flare project - any troubles?
I put in a bug/feature request with Flare to be able to tag links somehow as "I promise this will work, don't check it". Rather than having a setting like that for individual links, I'd like a setting like that at the target level. Just build it - Don't validate it! That would be a splend...

Re: How do I embed a copyright into HTML5 Help?
You need to include it in your Masterpage design(s). Just go to your Masterpage and add it under the bodyproxy or whatever else you want to have at the top. I recommend embedding it as a variable or snippet if you have multiple Masterpages. That way, you'll only need to update it in one place in the...

Re: Replacing Spaces with Underscores... Kills Dashes?
How many pages are in your project? Are you publishing your help documentation to the web? If it's a manageable number to change manually, I'd recommend using hypens in file names rather than spaces or underscores. This is especially true if your publishing to the web and would like the content visi...

Re: Moving to HTTPS from HTTP for Flare project - any troubles?
Ok, I guess I'll just document my own answers as I find them and post here for posterity. Protocol Relative Urls Don't Work In Flare The easiest way to move to HTTPS from HTTP in most web publishing tools is to use protocol relative urls, thereby allowing the server to serve the content with the sch...

Moving to HTTPS from HTTP for Madcap Flare 8 project
We're planning on moving our whole website from HTTP to HTTPS. Of course, this means we'll need to do the same with our Flare project . I wanted to see whether anyone had done this and what problems may have arisen. I'm particularly concerned about internal links. I want to change all http://www.mys...

Could you insert the disclaimer between comment marks on the Masterpage?

<!-- Disclaimer goes here between these tags -->

The http://redikersupport.com/documentation/ website structure does look similar to what we did on the Bomgar site with Flarestrap . I'd be intrigued to know if that's what they used. The Overdrive help site is awesome . So awesome, actually, that I called them to find out how in the world they did ...

Re: Updating Flarestrap for SEO. Taking feature requests.
Hi Justin, that is great news. I've tried a few things with flarestrap, just to showcase options to my team. I probably have just scratched the surface, so I have no 'big' feature suggestions yet. Two things that come to my mind: - What about the bootstrap carousel? Probably I can use it already, b...

I think including some sample projects would be helpful. I'll try to do that.
Could you elaborate a bit more on what you mean by "cascading/multi-level menus"? Perhaps a link to an example?

Re: Media queries producing CSS errors on compilation
I've never been able to get the media queries to work. Before I build, I usually compile all my CSS into one file.
It's a bit of a headache on the development side, but that single HTTP call saves a little on load time over pulling multiple CSS I think.

Yeah, the Affix function would be a good addition, especially for guide-specific navigation. I'm looking into using it. Also, there's this really cool ScrollToFixed script on Github. That's an option.
Thanks for the input!
