Re: Apply top nav on home page and side nav on all other pages
One suggestion for an "easy" option that I have gone with in the past. Set up sidenav only, but don't display the sidenav menu on the home page by setting the relevant area to display:none; in a home page specific stylesheet. Then include your own top level menu "buttons" across ...

Script for analytics (Matomo)
I am struggling with the way that Flare messes with scripts as side nav help is compiled. I see I have several options to insert scripts - in the topic head/body, in the master page head, or in the target Advanced tab for Add content to head. These all seem to lead to different results in the compil...

code editor not launching properly
I have a big project, with some code snippets included in topics, running on Windows 10. Once upon a time (I couldn't say which Flare version, a couple of years ago) I could select "Code Snippet" on the Insert ribbon and have a window launch to help me organise my code snippet. Now, in Mad...

Re: Placing an image on a page based on a condition
These are not pretty, but they might just help. I used two approaches in one project several years ago, which needed rendering as html5 help and pdfs. I'm not sure which type is most relevant to you, so I include both. 1.Some headings required large images - they needed a div and I kept the image ov...

Re: Versioning of multiple PDF outputs in one project
In that sort of situation I would use a target for each customer. So, customer Joe gets the target 'Product X User Guide - Joe' initially at version v1.0 (set in the target). Joe's manual contains an extra topic about some special beta-test features that are only in his version of 'Product X User Gu...

Re: Generic error occurred in GDI+
Nothing like posting a query to help you solve your own problem. It eventually came down to character count on this path. This one finally worked after moving the project, taking page layouts and targets out of subfolders, abbreviating the target title and page layout title.... C:\Users\abcdef.ghijk...

Generic error occurred in GDI+
Perhaps the wise people in my computer can help with this? Generating Glossary... Processing Page Layouts... Build failed: A generic error occurred in GDI+. This is a pdf target which compiled many times before just fine. It is the 'internal' version of a pdf target which continues to compile just f...

Re: What is a div for and how does it differ from a span?
Think of a div as a container for a whole paragraph or more. Doing pdf documents I often put a div around a combination of figure and figure label, or preamble plus table. I then apply PrintSupport settings to the div style to avoid column, frame or page breaks within the div. From a css point of vi...

Re: Is Flare 2022 a bit slow?
Never brave enough to be an early adopter, so I have no first-hand experience of Flare 2022 yet - I am waiting to see what others think of it! The system requirements haven't changed over the last year, but if your old hardware was running close to the 8GB RAM limit then this update could be one too...

Re: Word: "Build failed: Generation of output can not be....
Absolutely - I just closed every other application and found it sat on my desktop at the lowest level. Though it might be affected by the way your virus checker interacts with Word warnings. I'm on Windows 10 with AVG Business. This must have been a very recent change - I rarely do MSWord targets, b...

Re: Word: "Build failed: Generation of output can not be....
Maybe connected with this - I had a Word target seemingly stuck embedding images. When I eventually decided to close everything on my desktop, delete output folders and so on, to try again I found an innocuous pop up (underneath Flare) asking if Word should allow a document free rein to change thing...

Re: Fixed-length underline
Ooh - that's exciting. I fudged it for a short datasheet with a div after each heading, but this should allow me to set up my user guides differently. Thanks. -------------------- Sadly it doesn't work in pdf targets - they don't seem to respect the pseudo element - although it does work for html5 t...

Fixed-length underline
I am having a moment trying to implement this, and thought the good people on the Internet might be able to tell me where I'm going wrong. I want headings to have a 60px line underneath, beginning at the left margin. I knew underlining wouldn't work, so I've been trying to do something with the bott...

You don't say whether you've set up a file filter for importing Word documents - this ought to be the way to deal with it.

Best approach for multilingual project

Now I'm trying a project with 8 languages where some targets are published single language and some multilingual. I am creating a web of Flare and Lingo projects which seem to do the trick, but ...

Re: Captions, Bookmarks & Cross-References
Hello Belynda If I have a table with a distinct autonumbered caption style, I generate this sort of thing, which I think is what you are looking for - This display uses the same set of colours for door events as the floor plan, see Table 14-1 Key to door colours and events. The code behind the cross...

Re: Auto numbering not working
My figure numbering works fine and it relies on p.Figure which looks like this mc-auto-number-format: 'CF:Figure {chapnum}-{n+} '; This gives me 'chapter number - incrementing number (stored under F) within each chapter (C)'. My TOC ensures that the chapter number increments and the counter resets w...

The default images are with your installation files, in my case in C:\Program Files\MadCapSoftware\Madcap Flare 15\Flare.app\Resources\Images\WebHelp
but you can point to any other image you want to use by altering your stylesheet.

Madcap offers Madcap Contributor https://www.madcapsoftware.com/products/contributor/ (which the title of your post made me think you were asking about...) Re: Understanding Global Project Linking
Perhaps I'm a luddite, but I'd concur with Dave Lee and recommend you should mistrust the auto-import option. When I use GPL I prefer to get in the habit of doing a manual update before building the target. This means I get to doublecheck what is being updated (or not) before it happens. (Most of th...

Re: Can version 2019 files be read by version 11?
I would say the answer's not out there because "it depends" on which of the madcap features you plan to use and which type of targets you are creating. The topics themselves are just xml files and will be read by an older version of Flare just as much as a new one, but you might find yours...

Re: Term/definition list formatting
There are several different ways of doing this, but I don't know any way to get Flare to recognize the first word as such, and style it, without you identifying it as separate to the explanation, by using at least a span tag. Here are two techniques I've used for similar things: 1. Easiest in my opi...

Re: Formatting Variables: Only Works Sometimes
So far as I am aware transparency has never been well respected in Flare pdfs. I have dealt with the occasional 'on button arrow' this way: On html5: html5_button_arrow.png On pdf: pdf_button_arrow.png In this case my button snippet looks like this <body> <img src="../Images/EdgeConnector_log...
