Re: Back and Forward in Topic toolbar - HTML5
Thanks for these instructions! They worked for me. One issue to watch for: When naming a custom button, make sure to use no spaces. For example, use "Back" instead of "Back Button." Although Flare lets you include spaces, the button icon will be wrong or missing. (This issue is covered in another ...

Insert meta tag?
Hello, I would like to insert a meta tag within all <head></head> tags in my files. Is there an automated way to do this, or do I have to add each one manually via a text editor? Thanks in advance.

Re: Remove index text box?
Good idea, Lisa. Plus, I discovered that there is an installation file called index.htm in the \Program Files (x86)\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare V7\Flare.app\Resources folder. I am guessing that making the change there would affect all output and that I would not have to tweak the index each time I ...

Re: Remove index text box?
Hmm, I think that I managed to solve the problem myself. In a text editor, I opened the Index.htm file, which is located in the \WebHelp\Skin folder.
Then I changed this text
input
{
 font-size: 10px;
 position: relative;
 top: 0px;
 left: 0px;
 border: solid 1px #bbbbbb;
 margin: 0px 0px ...

Remove index text box?
Hello, I would like to remove the text box that appears at the top of the Index in WebHelp. Does anyone know which file handles this box? My guess is that I can change the font size of the box to zero or some such.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Keep end punctuation with inline icon?
Hello, I have a sentence that ends with an inline icon and then a period. The sentence is also at the end of the paragraph. In print output, the period wraps to the next line. In other words, the period is sitting there all by its lonesome on one line. I could try resizing the icon, but what's to ...

Re: Cross-refs with page numbers in print only: How?
Thanks, Lisa. I had actually tried that but was viewing the results by Preview. The page numbers don't show up that way. But they are showing up in the output, which is where it counts. Woo-hoo!

Cross-refs with page numbers in print only: How?
Hello, I may be missing something obvious, but I want my cross-references to include the page number in print output (PDF) but not in WebHelp output. My understanding is that I should be able to control this in the stylesheet through the print medium. (I'm using a single stylesheet.) I've played ...

Re: Inserting text into an image
For those interested, madcap has logged this issue as bug #49558. If you are experiencing this or similar behavior, I encourage you to submit a bug or feature request. The more customers that complain, the more likely these bugs will be fixed.

Re: Inserting text into an image
I'm having a similar problem and have discovered some nasty bugs when outputting print in Flare. Your problem SHOULD work by using some simple CSS, but for print outputs Flare seems to render only what is displayed on the screen and to disregard a lot of the CSS. Your problem SHOULD work by doing ...

Re: DIV within a line of text?
For those interested, I did log a bug, and Madcap was able to reproduce the problem. They have submitted two bug reports:
- #48664 - "margin-left" not being honored for the span class
- #35763 - "vertical-align" not being honored for the image class
Unfortunately, they did not offer a workaround ...

But Lisa I'm not using DIVs. Also, if I have to use individual graphics (and localize each one), I might as well be using Word. I'm going to log a bug.

Well, shucks. The formatting is not working for the PDF output. Any ideas what's up?

Re: DIV within a line of text?
OK, as RamonS alluded to above, changing the number of characters used in the SPAN did mess up the alignment. But I solved this problem by setting more attributes for the SPAN:
- Set the Display attribute to inline-block
- Set the Width attribute to the same width as the image that was used for ...

Re: DIV within a line of text?
Thanks. I did try 3 SPANs with no luck, but I finally figured out another approach. I was struck by the fact that an IMG element behaves just fine, so I leveraged off that, doing the following:
- Inserted the icon inline as an IMG and created a new IMG class for it. The class has the button graphic ...

DIV within a line of text?
Hello, I am trying to place a small graphic within a line of text. A simple IMG element would normally work, except that I also want the graphic to have text and an icon overlaid on it, like so:

I am able to create the ...

Add scroll box?
I would like to add a scroll box to a topic. This scroll box would resemble a text box except that it would be a fixed size and its contents would scroll vertically (with a scroll bar) if they are too voluminous to stay within the box. From what I can tell, text boxes always expand to accommodate ...

Hello, I would like the index in my WebHelp to have a letter before each section, the way the mobile output and PDF output do. I am probably missing something obvious but have searched high and low. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Back & Forward look active at startup
Is there a way to make the Back & Forward buttons look inactive when you first launch the Help, the way those in a browser do? Typically Back and Forward buttons are grayed out (i.e., unavailable) until there is something to go back or forward TO.

Nav elements at top of pane instead of bottom?
Hello, I am wondering if there is a way to position the elements in the navigation pane (TOC, Index, Search, etc.) at the top instead of their default position at the bottom. To be clear, I still do want the lefthand navigation pane; I just want the elements to be placed at the top of it. Thanks in ...
