Re: Flare output access on Confluence wiki?

The loss of cross-references when importing Word is a long-known bug: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/OFFCONN-54 They also don't convert autonumbered paragraphs to ordered lists: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/OFFCONN-56 And content is reordered, with each TOC node being sorted alphabetically: ...

Re: When does explaining become over-explaining.

Unless you're writing "Windows 8 for Dummies" or the like, task-oriented documentation for well-designed software does not need to cover self-explanatory UI elements. A button is not a task. Neither is a dialog box. If a dialog box has ten elements and eight of them are self-explanatory (p...

Re: can you moderate comments?

I got an answer by email. You can set comments to appear immediately, after approval, or never (they just get routed to documentation or support or whoever).

can you moderate comments?

Does Flare + Feedback allow you to moderate the comments in Webhelp rather than having them appear immediately? I can't figure that out from the docs. I find a reference to hiding comments, but I don't want unmoderated comments to appear at all. If that's not an option, has anyone added that using s...

setting page-break-inside with local formatting

Is there a UI for setting table style="page-break-inside: avoid;" in local formatting, the way there is for paragraphs, or do I need to use the text editor?

Re: controling generated file paths

As I said, "Publish" is not the solution here. That just gives me a second set of output in another location. It doesn't delete the files from the Output directory.

The mandatory \Output directory's just a minor annoyance, I can live with it.

controling generated file paths

I'm consolidating Flare's generated files in a different location from the source to make it easier to configure my backup software and source control to ignore them. "Publish" is not the solution here. I've figured out part of the path: <output folder>\Output\<target name> Can I control t...

Re: [How to] Title in PDF bookmarks, not in TOC

If you are wanting the PDF bookmarks to appear different than in a TOC which is used in other output, I would copy the TOC to temp folder, rename it, and copy it back into the Project/TOC folder. Then, customize it for your PDF output. Two TOCs in the Flare project can't solve this, the problem occ...

Webhelp Back / Forward / print / favorites icons overlapping

The Back, Forward, print, and add to favorites icons are overlapping in my Webhelp output. It's worse in IE and Firefox than in Chrome. Is there some way to adjust that?

Re: Flare tags > Framemaker tags

Another mystery, usually text formatted with the <i> style in Flare shows up with an i character tag in the FrameMaker output, but in one document some phrases are showing up with the character tag variable, variable_1, variable_2, or the like. Anybody seen anything like this before? I'd like to fig...

Re: Flare glossary for terminology management?

I evaluated Flare's Glossary feature recently and found it wanting. The default is a simple two-column table (terms and definitions) with no formatting, no links, just plain text strings only. You can define some or all of your definitions as links to topics instead, but having a separate topic for ...

Re: Flare tags > Framemaker tags

In my Framemaker output, I'm getting an "a" character tag, but if I search for text formatted with that tag I get no results. If I export to MIF, I find it in the FontCatalog: <Font <FTag `a'> <FUnderlining FSingle> <FOverline No> <FStrike No> <FLocked No> <FSeparation 4> <FColor `Blue'> >...

Re: Flare tags > Framemaker tags

One-time conversion. I just want them to match to save time cleaning up in Framemaker. I won't need the Flare project again so I'll rename the tags in Flare to match those in the Framemaker template.

I guess if I want the tag names in Framemaker files generated by Flare to match the tag names in my Framemaker template, I would need to rename them in either the Flare stylesheet or in the Framemaker template?

Framemaker hyperlinks getting munged

I was looking into using Framemaker to work around a problem and found seemingly wrong behavior. In Framemaker, in a file named source_chapter.fm, I created a Hyperlink marker with the text "newlink test_dest". I imported that file into Flare as a topic. Flare converted the marker to a Boo...

Re: odd local formatting behavior

Here is a way to make a page break before - http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=12401 I'm not sure why this would be happening. maybe it just needed to be resaved. I've had no problems with using classes to control page breaks, but in this case I can't edit the stylesheet. The...

odd local formatting behavior

I want a particular topic to start a new page. The Flare 7.1 online help says: How to set a page or column break using local formatting 1.Open the content file (e.g., topic, snippet). 2.Click on the paragraph that you want to modify. 3.Select Format>Paragraph. The Paragraph Properties dialog opens. ...

I created a new h1.not_in_toc style and builds started crashing with "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute." Took the underscores out of the style name and everything's fine. Should I report that as a bug? Doesn't seem like Flare should let you save a style name i...
