Go to your Project Properties button, look at the Language tab and see what region you have set. If it's English (United States) - there's your answer and the very reason Flare is flagging 'Canceled' as incorrect - for that culture, it IS incorrect strictly speaking.
Thanks!

You are a developer. Not many other folks can duplicate your 4-6 seconds. What does that tell you?
Well, there are two to four folks here on the forum reporting the same issue I am reporting.
And Flare support has seen the issue.
And it has been submitted to the Flare product manager.

Re: Editor: Pressing ctrl-G takes 20-30% CPU and 2-4 seconds to
That said, in this case, there is a reason for how they implemented the index: the old RoboHelp method meant that if you condition parts of a topic that contain the keyword you've associated with the topic, the keyword *also* gets conditioned automatically. The old RoboHelp method meant you had to ...

I am curious though, is it that you think Flare is too "too buggy" that makes you long for RoboHelp again, or is it more of a learning curve thing?
It is not learning curve at all. It is pure bugs. The editor actually doesn't work when using the kbd to navigate.... It is amazing no one notices ...

150-250mb of RAM.....jees I wish half the tools I used were that light. Flare runs hotter than that most of the day on my box, let alone things like photoshop, flash, MS Word....Even good old (insert sacastic tone here) Lotus Notes kills around 120+ and thats during idle. Either spelling is acceptable in the US.
You win. That is right. The MS Word 2007 spell checker agrees with you. The following is considered %100 correct in MS Word 2007:
Joe canceled his trip to Mexico
Sally cancelled her trip to New York

Typically, for me, Flare is MUCH MUCH slower than Explorer. My projects with 500+ topics in one folder (and I have 30 some-odd folders), I can browse through them in Explorer in no time at all, whereas Flare takes 3-4 seconds to click from folder to folder.
Correct. This is also my experience ...

It may not even be Flare, but Windows.
The issue I see in this area is %100 Flare.
It appears that every time I press ctrl G, Flare does several things:
- Reads a list of all the files // super duper fast in windows
- Reads all the .props files // horrible slow, because Flare is really slow ...

So why the heck are you still using it? If I'd be in your position I'd drop Flare.
It is true, using Flare is painful. I suffer a lot from Flare. I wish I had stayed on Robohelp.

Ack!
A reality check?
In a topic type:
"Joe cancelled his order for shoes"
On my Flare 7.1 system, "cancelled" shows as misspelled.
Just me?
Thanks!

I submitted 35 or so in the last few months. %25 in one release is pretty good!

Submitting issues is the best way to get these issues taken care of. Please don't let anyone discourage you from submitting problems to Tech Support.
Support may not be able to solve a particular issue, but they can get it to the development team which may lead to getting the problem solved.

Re: Flare 7 editor CPU usage
Worth a try, but given the many complaints about other issues with RH9 in the Adobe forums you are gaining a bit and loosing somewhere else.
I can only speak to the robohelp IDE itself. The v9 IDE is much faster and responsive than Flare's is. There are also a long list of problems in Flare ...

David,
You might also want to try the robohelp v9 demo.
My experience is that robohelp is much better in this regard than Flare.

My point is that blasting everything in Flare gets old.

I spend almost as much time submitting bugs to Madcap as I do editing in Flare!
The bottom line is that Flare was sold to us as a viable replacement for Robohelp, and it fails to achieve this.

I don't think Paul was suggesting you dig down -- I think he was saying there's something in your work environment that most people don't run into, at least not to the extremes you're seeing. Something like that might make it hard for MadCap to track down since there could be any number of ...

Have you checked in Task Manager that hh.exe isn't running, perhaps even more than one instance? Each time it runs it uses up to 50% of cpu and impacts performance noticably. When running Flare 7 it doesn't shut down after veiwing CHM files so may be an issue for you.

More the choice of Microsoft rather than the author. Or the user not optimizing the color scheme for efficient use. Not sure if that means if it is you or not.
Ummmm, this is XP, default color scheme....
