The Flare editor is an unqualified dog. It is unquestionably the worst / slowest / buggiest / most keyboard hostile editor in the entire content-authoring industry.
Do you have the same experience running Flare on other computers?
Yup.
I should note that the issues I report to Madcap are almost ...

Re: Flare 7 editor CPU usage
- Shift-end does not work properly to select text (bug #43595)
That one at least is fixed in v7, depending on what you expect it to do.
In v7 it will select text to the edge of of the the window (like Word), as opposed to selecting text to the end of tag (as it did in v6).

Re: Flare 7 editor CPU usage
Why do you still use Flare? Based on your comments it is the worst piece of software you ever encountered.
The Flare architecture and output flexibility is great, and I use several outputs (I compile 15 or so outputs from my project).

Re: Madbuild: How to control the publish dir?
Why do you need to make 2 or 3 copies of each target? You build from three machines but are all three publishing to different locations? Why publish to three locations instead of one final one that all three build machines point to?

Re: Flare 7 editor CPU usage
I don't know if RoboHelp runs on the .NET platform, but you could try uninstalling .NET and reinstalling it. Just make sure you get the version required by Flare, which varies depending on which version of Flare you're running.

Re: Madbuild: How to control the publish dir?
You can specify different publishing parameters in each target and then specify which target(s) to build/publish using the command line. Search in Flare v7 help on "madbuild" and it'll return you the topic that discusses the options.

Re: Madbuild reports success, when it is actually a failed build
I did submit a bug report...
I have been submitting four to fourteen bug reports PER WEEK for two months now.
I spend almost as much time submitting bugs to madcap as I spend using Flare.
Not fun.

Re: Flare 7 editor CPU usage
Flare's XML Editor is very, very different from a typical text editor, and it will not be as fast. It does real-time transforms of the text file into the WYSIWYG look. That costs resources, so when you're arrowing around in Flare, Flare is basically retransforming a bunch of XML, not simply ...

My keyboard repeat rate is maybe 40cps or so, from a test I did in Notepad. As a comparison, I can scroll through a sample paragraph of text in about 7 seconds in Notepad (with no noticeable CPU usage), but the same paragraph takes about 17 sec. in Flare.

Hi,
After upgrading to Flare 7, I notice that while navigating through text using the arrow keys in the Flare XML editor window, the navigation goes kind of slowly and seems to eat up a lot of CPU on my system.

Madbuild: How to control the publish dir?
Say there!
I build on three machines (my desktop, my laptop, and on the build system). I use publishing, batch targets, the whole kit.
I need to be able to control the publish output directory build by build.....
Ideally, madbuild would take a param, -publishdir or something, so I could control ...

Re: How does the flare index work? I am unable to remove a topic
Index keywords are inserted in the topics, so you have to go to that specific topic and delete the keyword from there.
Got it.
As I understand it, the index is built from tags in the topics themselves, right?
Are there any other places that hold links from keywords to topics?
I am trying to ...

Re: How does the flare index work? I am unable to remove a topic
In 6.1 at least, you can remove a topic from an index keyword using the Index pane. Expand the keyword to see the list of topics assigned to it, right-click the topic and select Unassign Topic.

How does the flare index work? I am unable to remove a topic
I have a keyword with two topics associated.
I right click and select "remove" to remove one of the topics.... and nothing happens.
I am unable to figure out how to get this topic off of the keyword.
Suggestions?
Thanks!
