Suggestions required-2 different documents

Hello,

I have traditionally been using Flare to generate User Manuals and Online Help. I now need to prepare another document using the same content. The only difference will be the in the 'tense' used. e.g. In the User Manual, I say ís displayed'. But in the new document it should be 'should ...

Powerpoint presentation

Hello,

Is it possible to insert a Powerpoint presentation into the Help file? I find the slideshow very basic where formatting is concerned - and it is quite a painful process too.

Has anyone successfully done this? If so, it would be great if you could share your experience.

Thanks in advance ...

Formatting slides

Hello,

How do I insert headers and footers for a slide? I don't seem to find that option anywhere. Do I have to manually do it for each slide?
Also, how do I centre the contents for each slide? e.g. in some slides I have a lot of matter and in a couple very little. The container size is the same ...

Re: Hotspots in images

Thanks kwag_myers. Unfortunately, I don't have Mimic so that is not an option. :(

Mike Kelley, thanks for the information. I have passed it on to the development folks and just need approval to go ahead. I do hope your paper is accepted at Madworld 2016-all the best. It would be great if Madcap ...

Video not playing automatically

Hello,

I have inserted a '.mp4' file in my topic. Actually, this is within a slide in the topic. The problems I am facing are -

1) The thumbnail of the video does not show centred in the slide. This is despite the Float position being Çentre of column.

2) The video does not play automatically ...

Hotspots in images

Hello,

I want to add hotspots in images in my Webhelp/HTML5 output. Please check out the following link -

Is it possible to do this using Flare? I tried using image maps but am not able to add the red dot and the fade in/fade out effect. Also, I do not want a link to ...

Remaining with Webhelp

Hello,

My application relates to banking and is mostly hosted on desktops/laptops. Naturally, my output target is Webhelp. We currently don't use tablets or phones for the application - talks to do so are still on. Is there any reason for me to switch from Webhelp to HTML5? Any benefit? Pros and ...

Spacing in index

Hello,

In my PDF, the line spacing/height of the index entries is not ok. At the 1st level, the index appears followed by an indented 2nd level and sometimes a further indented 3rd level. The space between 2nd level and 3rd level index entries is ok - I just want single line spacing. But between ...

Issues in PDF output

Hello,

I normally have a Word output but now I need to have a PDF output. I have heard that Flare's PDF target is very good. Unfortunately, I am having the following problems:

1) The Contents page is blank. The heading appears and the rest of the page is blank. 'Generate TOC proxy' has been ...

Unable to align properly in print output

Hi,

From a web-based output, the user has the option of printing a specific topic. The online output looks ok. However, while printing to an xps file, the alignment for bullets is not very good. See below.

The bullet is followed by the text, a soft-return (shift+enter) and then ...

Re: Auto Scrolling Not Working

Hi,

:(

I've tried Auto Scroll with time delay...did not work. Any pointers on what needs to be done would be appreciated. I use Windows 7-64 bit, IE 10, Capture 6 and Flare 9.1.2.

Re: Error using Capture Window with Auto Scroll

Hi,

Were you ever able to get Capture to work with Auto Scroll? I use Flare 9.1.2, IE 10.0.12, Capture 6.0.2, and Windows 7-64 bit.

I've been trying for days to get the Auto Scroll to work...no luck. I am assuming that an issue with Capture 4 has been rectified by now...or hasnt it? Any help would ...

Hello Kellie,

Yes, Madcap resolved this issue with a patch release for v7 and v8. You can probably check with them.

All the best.

Thanks Steve. No, the link does not point to an internet location. It is to a file in the same folder as the topic.

Any other ideas?

Sorry to post on an old thread but while looking in the forums I came across this post and it is the same problem that I am currently facing.

Images losing their clarity in Webhelp output

I have screenshots in my help file that have been captured using SnagIt. These are quite long and hence I have used Auto Scroll to capture the entire screen shot. Thereafter, I have used Paint.NET V3.5.11 to remove unnecessary areas and also add balloon text. The file is then saved in PNG format and ...

Hello,

I need my table to look like this (see attachment).

a) The bold text for the multi-cell (column1 and column2 cells are merged).
b) Remove the background colour only for the multi-cell. For the rest, the colour should ...

Re: Images in help files

Thanks Dave.

Another suggestion was to use image maps. The screen tip will describe the field and can link to a popup where a brief description is given.

Problems here are -

1) Each popup would have to be a separate topic file and so I could run into a project having thousands of files.

2) PDF ...

Images in help files

Hi,

For one of my help projects I need to do this -

Instead of having a help file with a table that lists out the fields on the screen and their descriptions, have a screen shot. Then, for each field, explain what it is. This need not be a descriptive sentence; since most of the fields are ...

Re: Space between bullet and text

No luck :(.

Property text-indent when set to 1 px as you have done is giving me way too much space. And the hanging indent too does not work though I set the list-style-position property to outside.

I am on Flare v7.2.1. Are you on a higher version? Just wondering if there is a bug in my version ...

Thanks for pointing out about the duplicate threads. However, when I looked I saw only 1 - perhaps the moderator removed the other one.:)

Space between bullet and text

Hi,

While generating a Word output, I find there is too much space between the bullet and the text that follows. Also, the hanging indent does not come below the text; it comes below the bullet.

For example:

* blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah

is what I get.

* blah blah blah blah ...
