Re: Are PDFs "old tech", and do you use them?

For software systems, I pretty much despise the clinging onto PDFs for user help. They're pretty restrictive compared to what I can get done in a browser in terms of content type, navigation, interactiveness and attractiveness, and PDFs (or any document format) are usually read on-screen anyway.

My ...

Re: Get rid of editing options for images

Here is a before and after of the .png registry class:

Note that I also removed two other keys because I thought I could remove MSPAINT from the list of options. I didn't happen. :(

Also note that any changes to this class or other image classes instantly takes affect in Flare (no need to restart ...

Re: Capture or Snagit.

I've been using Capture for a few years now. I haven't tried SnagIt.

The integration with Flare was and still is the #1 attraction. Works really well. To be honest, the rest is so-so - quite clunky, some bizarre behaviour with a few things that should be fundamentally sound, some annoying UI ...

A little warning that Flare 10 is likely going to be released shortly, so you might want to hold off on upgrading to 9.

Re: Flare 10 wishlists and sneak peeks?

Hoping for a "quick styles" box. At the moment every time I want to apply a style, I have to scroll down one or two times to get to the style I want, because the default styles (like abbr, b, big, cite, code etc) fill up the pane and my custom span.UI is down further. Even worse when I want to add ...

Anyone who knows anything is sworn to secrecy 'cause they will have signed a nondisclosure agreement. But that doesn't limit anyone from wishing!
Bah, we're almost there. Surely some buzz-building sneak peeks from MadCap are in order? :P

Flare 10 wishlists and sneak peeks?

It's about that time of year again, assuming Madcap are keeping with the late Feb/early March release schedule.

Any info on what's going to be new in Flare 10? What are you all hoping for?

Tip-box style starts on next page rather than immediately

Apologies for the cryptic title, I'm not quite sure how to condense this issue into a small sentence.

I have CSS styles for tip boxes such as note, caution, warning, etc. When the contents of a tip box is more than the amount of space still available on the current page , the tip box starts on the ...

Re: WebHelp not displaying in Chrome

Any real resolution to this issue from MadCap by way of a fix? I'm back on Flare 7.2.1. Chances of this version also getting a fix?

If there's no official fix via a patch, is there something we can do manually (e.g. to the outputted .htm files)? Using MOTW didn't work for me and is a pretty dirty ...

Re: Flare-generated help on the web

Thanks for the insight and ideas!

Yes, authentication on a product-by-product basis is a fundamental and non-negotiable requirement. Only those with a product license should have access to the user help.

Rather than going the fully manual server setup route, any pointers regarding software I can ...

Flare-generated help on the web

Hi,

I'm transitioning the user help output formats that my company uses away from PDFs (bundled with software product releases) towards online help linked to through a 'help' button in-product.

Requirements:
1. An end-user (A) clicking the help button in Product A ultimately sends them to help ...

Re: How are you translating / localizing your Flare projects?

Apologies for the thread necromastery.

I've check out a number of threads about localization in Flare. Though there's a lot of good discussion, I didn't see anything related to updating/modifying the documentation (all languages) for subsequent versions.

What procedures do you follow when updating ...

Re: Moved project location, but new resources go to old location

Have you tried deleting the \Analyzer, \Output and \SourceControl folders, if they exist, and also \Project\Users? There's nothing in any of those locations that can't be recreated, but the old location may be cached somewhere there.

Users/myName/UserData.fluser seems to be the offending file as ...

Moved project location, but new resources go to old location

I've just move a project from one disk to another disk. When I try to paste a new image into a topic, Flare wants to add it to the old project folder location.

I've checked Project Properties - the Location field in the General tab points to the correct location.

Is there some other place I need ...

Re: Camtasia videos won't play in Flare topics

OK, solution:

The problem was that although inserting a swf wrapper works, Flare does not ask/know which other files are associated with the wrapper. That is, the wrapper is inserted/noted but the wrapped mp4 file (and other files generated by Camtasia, such as .js and other .swf files) is not ...

Camtasia videos won't play in Flare topics

Hi all,

mp4 videos (with a swf control wrapper) that I produce in Camtasisa won't play in MyWebHelp projects produced in Flare 7.2.1. The wrapper appears, but then there is just black screen where the video should be playing. The time bar doesn't move when I click play.

I can view the same videos ...

Sorry for the bump.

How do I set a table style to default to Autofit to Contents ? Is there some CSS I can manually add to the table.css stylesheet so theat all tables using that style will use Autofit to Contents?

15 days after Flare was purchased, a new version came out. I told the sales rep that since it was such a short time since the purchase, we should get the upgrade for free. He wasn't amused. However, that's exactly what RH did for us several years ago. We were within 30 days of the purchase ...

Resize popup image to fit window?

Hi all,
