Re: Conditions appearing in built help

Hi
I'd imagine the people who are taking advantage of Flare leaving this condition tagging in the output are very much in the minority.
But I can see how your and other usage of this is advantageous to you.

I'll consider making create a Flare enhancement to at least make the behavior optional ...

Re: Conditions appearing in built help

Hi,
Thanks for confirming.
What I really want to know is what it the thinking behind this because to me it seems completely unnecessary.
Maybe I fundamentally don't understand conditions, but my take on them is they are used to define what it actually included in the output - I didn't expect to see ...

Conditions appearing in built help

Hi
I've just noticed that Flare is showing condition information in the output of a build! For example, our HTML5 build includes things like this:

<p class="BlockHeading" MadCap:conditions="Globalconditions.PrintOnly,Globalconditions.PrintOnly"><a name="Participants"></a>Participants in a ...

Re: Display XML comments in WYSIWYG editor view.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes, conditions would be the obvious choice. Funnily enough, your description of how you use conditions is pretty similar to the way we do.

The specific issue with conditions is related to the translation of the topics into a target language, e.g., French.

The conditioned ...

Display XML comments in WYSIWYG editor view.

Hi
I have a Flare topic which contains this:

<p>The following text should not be included in the output</p>
<p>This is work in progress.</p>

I want to wrap these 2 paragraphs in an XML comment so it looks like this:

Re: Including Flare in a Automated Build scenario - don't!

No - my understanding is the build license is a normal license in respect that it needs a license key to use it.
The floating license is more expensive (I believe) and given our large Flare usage and all the maintenance fees etc. I think we've spent enough with Flare.

Including Flare in a Automated Build scenario - don't!

Hi
If your Flare build process is performed on a VM and that VM is regularly rebooted, don't include Flare in your automation, unless you are prepared to regularly manually reactivate after seeing your jobs fail!

We're a large Flare user, lots of technical writers using Flare in their laptops ...

Hi,
I was kind of hoping that someone from MadCap lurks on these forums and would be able to comment?
Should I be concerned regarding the lack of response?
Best Regards

Impact on website performance when collecting analysis

Hi
We're looking to enable the collection of analytics on our cloud environment product help system (HTML5).
It's a big ERP cloud server serving thousands of users, and we're recording the analytics on our MadCap Central instance.

As I understand it, each user interaction will trigger a number of ...

Re: Building Project to get Analytic data

It turns out the project I was building was out of date and did not have a corresponding key on MadCap Central. No warning was added to the log.
I can confirm that once the analytics key in the project target file matches one stored in Madcap Central, you can perform the build containing analytics ...

Building Project to get Analytic data

Hi
To get analytic data, must the Flare project build be performed on MadCap Central?
I've tried a local laptop build with the same source files but with Analytic config setting enabled and disabled and the output is the same.

As we used Azure Devops pipelines in our workflow, needing to build on ...

Thanks for posting this registry fix.
I can now see equations!

It's pretty poor of Flare not to respect the JAVA_HOME environment variable though.
Thanks

Publish to remote file system with different timezone

Hi
We have an issue with the slowness of publishing a largish project (~1400 file) to a remote server. It's taking anywhere between 1.5 to 4 hours depending on who is publishing.

The "Update only changed files" tick-box in the destination file, I am assuming, must do a timestamp comparison on the ...

Running Analyzer for multiple projects

Hi
The full documentation set we maintain is ~160 Flare projects.
Thanks to madbuild.exe, I can create build scripts to build each of the targets in each of the ~160 Flare projects.

As you can imagine, it's completely impractical to run analyzer on each of the ~160 Flare projects.

What I would ...

MadCap Flare Implementing a Forbidden Words List

Hi
We use a term-base to define our business language we want to use in our product screens and documentation. All terms have on of these usage flags, e.g. preferred, allowed, deprecated, forbidden.
I am able to extract this list of the forbidden words into a simple text file. This is a list of ...

Including/Excluding Unlinked Content

Hi,
Madcap Flare target files have the option to include or exclude content that had no links to it. So if you had a topic file which was not referenced by the TOC or any other topics in the project, you can decide to include it in the target output or not.
It's in the target file advanced tab and ...

Hi Andreas,
When you say you selected the Flare file, do you mean the Flare project file (flprj)?
If so, your experience is something I noticed for the first time today.
When you create a Lingo project by opening a Flare project file, it does a lot of copying of files from the Flare project folder ...

Incorrect index sort order for localised help

Hi
A colleague of mine reported this issue nearly a year ago. (Case 33480)
It happens when an index entry contain either a hyphen or an accented character. The order of the built index goes from A-Z, then starts at A again.

This is causing me big problems for the languages I am currently working ...

Hi Jenifer,
Thanks for both your posts. Very informative and I now have the extra space for German.
I'll fix it for all my other languages too :-)
I don't suppose you have asked MadCap to fix it permanently have you?
Cheers

Re: BreadcrumbsYouAreHereText property not localising properly?

Hi Nita,
Thanks for your suggestion.
I've done some searching in my German help source, i.e. the files prior to a build. There is no sign of the German translation, in my files. So I am pretty sure that if I'm not suplying it during the build, then flare is, although I'm still not certain where that ...

BreadcrumbsYouAreHereText property not localising properly?

Hi
I've got an English help system which we've translated into German.

In English, an example of an English BreadCrumb trail is:
You are here: Administration > Functionality Reference > Team Hierarchy
The same trail in German is:
Sie befinden sich hier:Administration > Funktionreferenz ...
