Re: Horizontal rule between header and topic/toc - hack the skin
That looks promising, Dave. Thanks. I may need some more advice when it comes to manipulating the header, but we shall see. I'm not up on java, but that's never been a huge issue before.

Horizontal rule between header and topic/toc - hack the skin
Hello
I'm not a big fan of Flare's skin and want to make a slight alteration to the appearance of the skin - I want to be able to add a div between the header and the TOC and Topic so that I can then put a horizontal rule in the div. Is this possible without ditching the skin completely? Could ...

I know about that, ChoccieMuffin, thanks. I always build the output as well when I want to check something. The output looked perfect, it was just difficult to manage in the XML editor.

Hide Span Tags - they are effing up my layout!
Hi all
I'm working in a template aimed at print for a change and have a problem - the span tags are messing the layout up in editor mode. It outputs to PDF correctly, but it is tricky to layout the content correctly when it doesn't look right on screen. Is there any way to hide the span tag markers ...

Re: Importing From Word 'Object' Error
Same problem here. I've used Flare for quite a while, but never for Word output until today. Worked fine when the Create page layouts for headers and footers option was disabled, so looks like a bug with that feature. That means creating the layouts manually, which hopefully won't be too bad.

Re: Mimic does not import?
I have the latest version of Mimic and never use it. But today I have a project where it could be useful...the only problem being that I am documenting a firmware upgrade for a hardware product, so there is a mix of non-computer footage and then computer application footage. Judging by this thread ...

Re: HTML5 on web server - I don't own server.
Oh, i kind of expected it to be default.htm to load the 'home' of the project. That just seemed too obvious! I wasn't sure that the skin etc. would still load into the browser.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: HTML5 on web server - I don't own server.
Thanks. I don't actually need the help up - it is just a sample for my online CV (that might be resume to you!). The hosting company have been pretty dire so far, so I won't get my hopes up.
So to launch the help in a web site, what file do I link to?

HTML5 on web server - I don't own server.
Hello
I'm trying to host a HTML5 project on a web server for the first time. I've read the instructions in the Flare Help PDFs and they say that there are settings that need to be in place on the company's web server. The problem I have is that I am using a hosting service, so don't have access to ...

Hmm....looks like the case studies have changed since I last looked. They used to have case studies that didn't look like Flare output - they looked more like a web page layout, with different divs etc.

Examples on MadCap Site...How Did They Bypass Skin?
Hi All
I've just upgraded to Flare 9 and was looking at the MadCap site. On there, there are a couple of examples that seem to bypass the skin and use the flare content in a non-Flare interface (I'm guessing CSS web layout or something). I just wondered if anyone knows how to do this? Does using ...

Re: Cursor jumping around in text - Flare 8
My problem occurred in a paragraph within a bullet list, so <ul><li>list item <p>text where Flare went mental</p></li></ul>. I had to save the file, re-open it, delete the line in the HTML code, and then retype it and everything went back to normal. Very weird.

Cursor jumping around in text - Flare 8
Hi All
I'm working on a topic and all of a sudden, the cursor seems to jump back to the start of a word in a sentence instead of carrying on as normal. For example, if I'm typing 'Proceed to Step 6' it might come out like 'tep 6 Proceed to S'. I've tried shutting Flare down and restarting, but to ...

HTML5 to WebHelp - What about the alias file?
We are unhappy with the quality of the HTML5 output (too many features missing or not working correctly) so wish to switch to WebHelp. This seems straight-forward enough, but we are uncertain about the possible effect on context-sensitive help. Currently, we have an alias file with identifiers that ...

Re: HTML5 Output: Does window.history.forward(); work?
Well, what do you know - I just uninstalled Chrome and re-installed it. Now the back and next buttons appear to work a lot better...still seems a bit flaky, but not too bad at all. In FireFox, it appears to be working too (I hadn't tested that before).

Re: HTML5 Output: Does window.history.forward(); work?
You're a lucky man, Dave. I've tried to get them to work using IE and Chrome but they are really inconsistent in both. I can't get the Forward one to work at all. MadCap took a look at my files and came back with news that they had discovered a bug...I presume that means there's nothing else in my ...

Re: Skin Editor - Options are Missing - How Can I Restore Them?
Quick update - the window.history.back and window.history.forward scripts don't work in HTML5 unless your help is hosted on a web server. This is a bug in Flare (confirmed by tech support).

Re: HTML5 Output: Does window.history.forward(); work?
I've just had a response from Madcap tech support. The window.history.forward(); and backward equivalent only work in HTML5 output if the help is hosted on a web server. This is a bug, so may get fixed in a later update.
