Hi Aaron, and welcome from the UK too.
Interestingly, one of the things I remember from my early days of learning Flare was also being confused about how to set variables, and wondering why they weren't quite so variable. It's obvious once you know how, but not so obvious when you are first trying ...

Re: Style Inheritance When Linking in a Snippet
Is it just in the Flare XML editor that the snippet doesn't show up correctly, or in the output too? I have several things that don't show properly in the XML editor
when they are in snippets (all my numbers and bullets, for example). but they are fine in the output. Is that what's happening here?

Can you give us more information, please? What have you done, what has happened as expected, and what didn't happen as expected? A screenshot showing where the problem appears to be may help.

Release notes seem to be here. They were a bit hard to find. The link MadCap provided with the release notification didn't take me anywhere useful.

Re: Master Stylesheets
I like your idea of using one stylesheet that imports the others Dave. I will consider doing something similar one day. The two stylesheets that I have open in Notepad++ at present are 1600 and 2000 lines respectively, but some lines are comments. :-)

Re: Make H2's expandable sections of a previous H1
Morning folks!
Just come across this post while searching to forums for something else. I thought I'd add my two penny-worth.
I completely agree with Dave and Choccie Muffin's suggestion to use drop-downs for this. I've just started using drop-downs very heavily, wanting something that expands in ...

@doc_guy. In a word, ease of maintenance.
I have separate stylesheets for each "medium". This was a carefully considered decision (admittedly made when I was a Flare newbie) but I'm so glad I did it. I single source for two different styles (our own and a reseller that needs our documentation ...

Re: Auto Expanding Dropdowns
This may not help you, but I've just started using drop-downs heavily, and I'm feeling a bit flushed with my own drop-down successes (I worked out how to expand drop-downs that are the target of hyperlinks yesterday!) so here's what I'm doing.

Re: Master Stylesheets
No, you're not missing anything obvious. Print layout just displays your output as pages, with margins, headers, footers etc, whereas Web layout shows it as continuous full-width text.

Re: linking to drop-downs
Good point. I can't hide the text altogether, as I think that would hide the bookmark too. But since the text is irrelevant and is only there to ensure the bookmark doesn't get dropped, I could make it something that won't show up in search results - a space would probably do or a full stop.

Just in case anyone is interested and finds this post while searching for posts about expanding drop-downs that are targets of hyperlinks, as I did earlier today.

Re: Inserting javascript file to master page
There will be a master page associated with your target. You can see that by looking at the target properties.
There may also be a different master page associated with any specific topic. If so, that will be set in the TOC entry for that topic. If set, that will override the project master page ...

In the Insert Cross-Reference box, there is a drop-down at the top. You can select Place in this Document or Topic in Project.
Select Topic in Project, choose a topic, then, immediately below the window where you selected the topic, is a Bookmark icon. Click on that, and you will see a list of all ...

Re: table caption width vs. table width
All my tables are set with margin-right: auto;
That takes them all up to the right hand edge of your margin, rather than just wide enough for the current content. Will that help with your caption?
I seem to remember that there is something slightly odd about setting this. From memory, this is what ...

This is exactly how I do my title page, and the following page (which is a copyright page).

Re: Remove Table of Contents from pdf Output
Welcome!
The TOC proxy is the thing that causes the Table of Contents to appear in the output.
I'm assuming you don't have a topic with an explicit TOC proxy in it - if one of those has sneaked in, you will need to delete it.
Otherwise, there is a setting on the Target Advanced tab called ...

Re: Page order - ToC placement in page order
While doing something else, I just spotted a target setting that may have been causing this behaviour.
On the target Advanced tab (for print targets, at least) there is a Generate TOC Proxy output option. If you say you haven't explicitly added a TOC proxy, I wonder if that's where it is coming ...

Hi there,
Here's how I do it, but here's my full confession. I did it this way when I first started with Flare, as I wasn't aware of any other way at the time I was trying to do it. I'd certainly consider using injected headings now, although, as you say, it looks like you are stuck with your ...

Usually because something cached has got out of sync somewhere.
I get this occasionally if I rename files outside Flare (I have to, as Flare doesn't play well with Perforce for renames). Flare actually does a reasonable job of spotting renames and updating some things but not all things, and not ...
