Re: 9.1 upgrade

I have installed 9.1 and don't have and significant problems, just a few Perforce bugs fixed. :-)

I've just build a PDF output, and mine is fine. The indents are exactly as I expected.

Re: v9.1 and Visual SourceSafe Problem

I'm a Perforce user, not a Visual SourceSafe user, but have you tried selecting your \Contents folder, right clicking, then selecting Source Control > Refresh? Then do the same with the \Projects folder.

With Perforce, you always have to say "no" to building the cache, or Flare hangs completely ...

Re: Page Properties couldn' t changed by me

More questions, I'm afraid . . .

What version of Flare are you using?

When you change the margins, do you see the changed margins reflected in the page layout in the Flare editor before you save (you should), or are they not changed in the editor view at all?

Are you setting the margins in Page ...

Re: Flare 9.1 released

Installed and initial impressions are good.

I'm one of the (very) frustrated Perforce users, and I can confirm the following:

Perforce operations within Flare are significantly faster, for example, automatic checkout of a file you are editing
Checkins from within Flare don't raise "method not ...

Re: Chaining translations?

Just wondering . . .

This may be a very English-centric view, and if so I apologise. You are translating into all these European languages, and a couple of Chinese variants too. Do you not have a need for an English translation for your documentation?

Or is the issue just that you need an English ...

Re: Page Properties couldn' t changed by me

What sort of can't save? More details needed please . . .

Is there no save option available to you? Or do you get an error when you save and if so what error? Do you appear to save successfully, but when you reopen the page layout, the changes haven't been saved? Or is it just that the changes you ...

Re: Translator's involvement with Flare

The problem with option 3 is that there are things in the Project folder that may need translation too.

For example, the .fltar file contains variables, some of which may need translation (one of my variables for my PDF output is the Document Title, as I have several rebranded versions, each with ...

Re: Problem inserting rows in a table!

I'd have a look at the actual XML of the problem table and see if there is anything strange going on. There may be some extra cells or rows of zero width/height that are messing things up.

This is quite possible, certainly if you converted from Word. I can't remember the details now, but I can ...

Re: Translator's involvement with Flare

Not really an answer, but I've been wondering about this too. Here are my musings . . . .

I've just been involved in sending my first batch of Flare content to translators and receiving it back. This time round, we did it as we used to do it with the old Robohelp content, but I too have been ...

Here is a follow-up to this issue, in case it helps anyone else who finds themselves with two identical title pages in printed output.

I have found that the drop down text option is often disabled on the Insert menu if there is a bookmark included in the content you have selected for the drop down text.

If so, I just select as much as I can, then edit it to include the text I really want. Sometimes, I fix it by hacking the XML to ...

Re: One Alias File - Multiple Webhelp Outputs

I have three web outputs, and I ended up using separate alias files for two reasons, but only one CSH file. As Dave says, the extra entries in the CSH don't matter, so long as the version of the help that doesn't include the associated topics doesn't try to use the corresponding identifiers.

Why ...

Re: How can I use one TOC for multiple print outputs?

Couldn't you just set a condition to exclude the what's new chapter in the TOC.

Yes, I did and that worked fine for the target that included the What's New chapter. But that's the first "real" chapter, so it's also the chapter where I set the chapter number to 1, and reset the page number to ...

Solved - I'm not sure whether it is as flexible as I would like, but it's good enough for my requirements this time.

Re: How to display chapter number in an x-ref

Well done for getting your head round auto-numbering. I've just had a look at my stylesheet, and I've got this for my chapter xrefs:

MadCap|xref.Chapter
{
text-decoration: none;
mc-format: 'Chapter {paranum}"{paratext}"';
}

This will show as, for example,

Chapter 6 "Generating Reports"

Easy when you know how, although I had to admit complete defeat in searching for it in Flare help. Searching for "insert group" gave me lots of hits for "insert" but I couldn't see any paired with group, "insert div" similarly gave me one or the other but not both. :-(

Re: How can I use one TOC for multiple print outputs?

Because in this case, my actual text content is very similar in both cases. I can see why you may want to have different TOCs if you need quite different mixes of content, and I do that too on occasions.

But one of the benefits of single sourcing is to avoid the time wasted and errors introduced by ...

Re: Internal Error: Failed to open default skin file

Is this a global link that you set up, or did someone else set it up on another machine? The reason I ask is because sometimes Flare stores links to files outside your immediate project as absolute file paths, rather than relative file paths.

This means that if someone else set up the link, the ...

Sorry, can't help, only to confirm that I have noticed a problem with MadCap|dropDownHead too.

I've not tried :hover, but I couldn't get :visited to work although MadCap|xref:visited does work as you would expect. I'll report a bug when I get a few minutes.
